This app has been for me the best option to approach students closer to the world of video games
I lived a great experience when I guided my students step by step, through the tutorials, discovering G Develop: to see their faces of surprises when the objects began to move, jump, follow instructions... With this software is easy create objects, players, platforms, animations. It is an excellent way to help students to associate the video games concepts and the practical.
Although no programming skills are required for this software, it is important to consider events and behaviours such as the sequence of algorithms that allow the magic of video games to come true.
Insanely fast and easy software to make casual games
Kommentare: It was a surprisingly fun experience while making games with GDevelop. It will be my tool to make simple lightweight games, especially for the Facebook Messenger.
I loved that GDevelop is really intuitive and amazingly fast. It is a pleasant experience even in the browser version to make games using this fun tool. The ready-made behaviours make prototyping a snap and the syntax employed to create your own logic is really easy to get started with. I made a simple platformer and a top down 2D shooter with the help of its ready-made behaviours and writing my own custom behaviours on this. Also, exporting to different platforms is a delight, including the Facebook messenger. GDevelop touts itself as "The game engine for everyone", and I can certainly see that it is doing all the right things to make game development more accessible for all.
A Fun Step Into Game Development
Kommentare: GDevelop is a fun and very powerful tool, with everything you could want in one place! I used it to create a fun game to show my students how they could create their own games, as many of them are interested in video games. Unfortunately, the high level of entry with how much research and background knowledge a user must have to create something kept me from trying to have my students test it out, as it would have required much more time and research than we had. I did mention to students what I used in case they wanted to try it on their own, but I wish that GDevelop made their program even more user friendly by adding built in tutorials, or simpler "challenges" to guide someone through making their first game.
GDevelop packs a ton of features into it's software! Users can edit almost anything they want to - from creating their own character or environment sprites, to detailed interactions and game logic and rules. It's amazing what someone can do with these tools given the time and effort, and for those who are interested in game design and have some ideas of what they want to do, this is a great program!
My biggest complaint with GDevelop is that it really leaves the user to fend for themselves. While it does offer a selection of templates, from platformers to 2D shooters, it does not provide much help beyond that. It is up to the user to either search out help online, on their forum, or to just guess and test whatever they might want to mess with. Someone with more experience or familiarity with the terms that game developers use might have an easier first time, but it can be quite a challenge for someone new. I also wish there were tutorials that could involve younger users to take the first step in game development
A Fun Way to Start Coding!
Kommentare: GDevelop has been a blast to use both as a teacher, and as a gamer! I’ve played games a lot in my own personal time, and run a Minecraft coding club with my 3rd graders, so GDevelop was fun and exciting addition to that! The students were so excited to see what could be made, and putting them in was easy with the sprite designer! Great fun, and easy to get into!
GDevelop makes it easy to jump right in and start programming your own game! It has a variety of templates you can use, from platforming games to RPGs to shooters and more. While it may seem overwhelming to create your own game, GDevelop breaks down the coding into simple commands that teach the basics of coding and making the process approachable and fun. Also, the sprite designer makes it easy to draw quick characters and environmental items!
GDevelop allows its users to do so much, you can easily get lost in it all or struggle to find the commands you want/need to use for your game! I do wish they had more guides in the program, or step by step tutorials to help build users’ skills, but it isn’t too hard to google and find some online!
The Easiest Way To Start Game Developing
Kommentare: As someone who had no experience creating games other than some simple coding on Minecraft, GDevelop made it easy for me to jump in and try it out. I did have to watch some tutorials on YouTube, but after those, I was able to animate and code my own simple platformer, and my students were able to see it as well! While it hasn’t been approved for county use yet, I definitely saw that kids were interested, and could have made at least a simple game off the bat!
GDevelop makes it very easy to jump into simple 2D game developing. The quick drag and drop tools for the game space and the easy to follow coding language made it much less intimidating to try and create something! The coding can also be changed from the easy to read written-out style to a more complex coding language for those who want to learn more!
While the software does make it easy to jump in, I still needed a bit of a tutorial to make things work exactly how I wanted. It’s surprising the software itself doesn’t have more of a guide, but it was easy to find videos and guides online.
