Once you use KeePass, there's no going back!

5,0 vor 3 Jahren

Kommentare: KeePass makes it possible to store the passwords (database) in-premise. This makes it possible for us to secure our passwords with the present infrastructure without second guessing the levels of security that is offered. Since we can implement our own cloud storage, all passwords are always a click away whether online or offline; desktop or mobile. We are never going back to another password manager ever!

Vorteile:

It has never been easier to use a password manager before we started using KeePass. On the closed-source platforms, the per-user fee kept going up with each additional user. Over time, we've even lost access to one of our accounts. This is where KeePass has shined for us. Keeping the database local has helped solve so many of the issues that we otherwise have to deal with while using other password managers. All of this while being completely open source? Easily the best decision that we've ever made.

Nachteile:

While using a single database in a multi-user, there is always a chance that one user could over the changes made by another user. But, there are plenty of extensions available to add/remove functionality. In our environment, we regularly save versions, thereby securing our own data.

KeePass Experience

3,0 letztes Jahr

Kommentare: I have used very little of its functions but do feel very conficent that my password are secure since I have started to use it.

Vorteile:

It is free to use. It can generate new passwords if you choose to use that function.

Nachteile:

I don't like the look. It is "cold & unfriendly" and look old. Sometimes I would rather just go back and use a spreadsheet. It is always asksing me to download updates. Would be nice if it would do it automatically.

KeePass is the free, open-source gold standard for managing your passwords and credentials

5,0 vor 2 Jahren

Kommentare: I have been using KeePass privately and at work for about 5 years now and I still keep finding new exciting features. I sync may passwords across multiple PCs and Android devices using Synology Drive for storing the database.

Vorteile:

No other product offers all features of KeePass including very well structured Password database, storage of files alongside Keys, Android integration, Autofill in multiple Webbrowsers and any other app you configure. It is FREE and most importantly open-source. This ensures that there are no backdoors and there is no "cloud" or other provider who may have access to or even accidentally leak your sensible data.

Nachteile:

It is a bit more complex to set-up initially, but after a short learning period of 1-2 months the benefits outweigh this entry-hurdly by far.

Perfect for keeping passwords safe

5,0 letztes Jahr

Kommentare: The software is very easy to use, I have two databases, one for work and one personal one. It's really easy to switch between the two databases and the function to auto populate your username and password is literally a time saver for me

Vorteile:

I work with a lot of different systems in my job, and each requires a unique and strong password, without KeePass I would not be able to keep these systems secure. It's easy to populate a new password and keep it random and secure.

Nachteile:

The app doesn't always recognise websites to use the automatic population, but you can add the URL to the entry to help with this.

I highly recommend KeePass

5,0 vor 3 Jahren

Kommentare: I use it many times during every day and it allows me to have different, high quality, passwords for every site and I never have to worry about losing them or someone breaking them.

Vorteile:

I have used KeePass for many years. It is free and, very important, it is open source, which means that it has been thoroughly checked for security problems. KeePass's easily configured auto-type makes browsing easy and very safe. It is also multi-platform. I keep the password database in the cloud with a very secure passphrase, so that my wife and I can easily access it from different devices - Windows, Linux, Android, etc. There are many plugins for KeePass. For instance, I use a plugin (Readable Passphrase) that generates easy to remember but very hard to crack passphrases. The passphrases are easily configured for different types of pattern. A very important feature is that KeePass keeps a history of all changes to every entry

Nachteile:

The only problem I have had is when KeePass is open on several devices and changes are made on two (or more) of them. KeePass usually manages to combine the changes but it does occasionally fail. The solution is to make sure to save changes immediately.

Portable and easy to use

5,0 vor 5 Jahren

Kommentare: Love it. I know I have my passwords when I need them and I do not have to rely on some software company keeping their cloud safe from hackers. My passwords stay with me, and only me.

Vorteile:

In addition to the installed version on my desktop, I also use the portable version on a USB drive I carry around. Does not require installation on the few other machines I need to check my passwords on. As for functionality, I don't find it lacking and it is easy to use without reading manuals. Going to my bank is as easy as clicking the link in the password entry, then click the username to copy it to the clipboard and paste it, then click the password to copy it to the clipboard and paste it. Copied passwords only sit in the clipboard for 12 seconds (default) before being removed from the clipboard (for security reasons)

Nachteile:

Can't think of anything. if I had to say something, it is that it does not automatically capture your password when first filling out new logins on web pages. But with the auto generating passwords and the ease of using that password on web pages, it doesn't matter.

Do not forget any password, ever

4,0 vor 2 Jahren

Kommentare: I was an avid user of KeePass for years because it was an easy and convenient way to store every password, arranged by sections of my life and work. I am still using it, but not so usual because Google is doing an outstanding job remembering my passwords. Nonetheless, sometimes you are using a different computer or need passwords for things that are not online (such as credit card digits or locks), so I still use KeePass every other week. It is a simple and modest-looking software but has proved essential for my work and life several times during the last decade. I guess some people can be scared about privacy issues, but after more than ten years of using it, I have never had any problem.

Vorteile:

I liked most that KeePass is free. But, beyond this essential aspect, I also enjoy its customizability: I can insert an icon for every password, be it an official ID, a Twitter password, or any bank account. Another remarkable aspect is how easy it is to organize all your information and data in files and folders, so you can quickly go to the section you need (well, the "Search" option on the top leads you straight to the file you need). Finally, I would like to emphasize the importance of syncing the android app with the laptop program so your passwords are always up to date.

Nachteile:

It is less common now because there is access to the internet everywhere. Still, years ago, I had a challenging moment in an airport: I did not remember my suitcase's three-digit code, but I needed access to the internet to open the app. So, one "con" for me was its dependency on being online.

KeePass review

5,0 vor 6 Jahren

Kommentare: I use KeePass to keep business information and logon information securely with me and accessible regardless of internet connectivity. As a small business owner I find myself computing from many locations, and this is a fantastic way to keep things synchronized and secure while still retaining off-line control and direct user management of any information - not just passwords and logons!

Vorteile:

This is a fantastic, compact password manager. I found it's off-line element reassuring. It has a mobile launcher so password files can even be used in professional settings where you do not have administrator access on your pc/the ability to install the program to your computer.

Nachteile:

The only elements of this software seem to stem from its status as non-commercial. The need to update the software manually is a minor annoyance, but the software does reliably inform the user of any needed updates. The only other thing I can think of as a "negative" would be that the design and function of the way the user creates and manages the ordering of the passwords might be cumbersome to some users - but it isn't in anyway difficult to get used to.

Simple Effective Secure Storage for all your Passwords.

5,0 vor 5 Jahren

Kommentare: After using other password managers, I have stuck with KeePass for several years now. I use cloud storage for encrypted database accessibility, but all encryption/decryption is done locally.

Vorteile:

The best feature is that all encryption and decryption is performed on the client system. Encrypted database can be kept anywhere. I keep a copy on my Dropbox and on a USB key. Portable version of software is available. versions for Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry, etc., Chances are, there is a version of this software that you can run. Built-in support for AES, plus plugin support for most other encryption methods. This is a great tool to keep your passwords safe, yet available. Plugins available to import or export password from From/To Firefox & Chrome web browsers.

Nachteile:

Integration with Web Browser is neither intuitive nor built-in. Plugins are needed to support access from a Web Browser.

Keep your passwords secure

5,0 vor 4 Jahren

Vorteile:

As a software developer, I'm very mindful of the security issues that often exist in cloud applications. Since a password manager is going to hold the access to all of your accounts (although you're hopefully 2FA), I only trust it if I'm storing it myself. KeePass checks all the features I'm looking for in my list: offline storage, open source, extensibility, audited often and can autocomplete. There are other not so important features that can be covered via plugins, but I've mostly kept the vanilla experience. I easily login in other devices via cloud storage and key files, so that only trusted devices with my key file and my password can retrieved my valued information.

Nachteile:

The UI is not very pretty. There are some plugins that help by setting up a theme, but it still looks like a classic Windows application. It can be a slightly more difficult set up than using a cloud service, but it is way more secure.

Great Password Manager - with Some Caveats

5,0 vor 6 Jahren

Kommentare: This is good software that does exactly what it says it will do. There isn't cloud connectivity and if you want this to be the one-size-fits-all solution, you're going to have to come up with a workaround for this. But, in the limited and as-advertised set of features of KeePass, you're going to be very happy, especially considering the price.

Vorteile:

The price is right on this - it is free software, with a variant existing for Windows, Mac, iOS and most likely Android. It allows you to use a single incredibly secure password to be the only one you ever need - you can generate passwords for all your logins and keep everything stored in an encrypted file.

Nachteile:

There isn't any cloud connectivity with this - if you're logging in on multiple devices then you'll need to keep a single file up to date and accessable on all of your terminals. Since most people login via at least one PC and a phone, there is a major pain point right there.

Great password management tool that is NOT web-based

4,0 vor 6 Jahren

Kommentare: All of our passwords now have 1 home!

Vorteile:

I like keeping my password management tools local, not on remote servers for a couple of reasons. First, because password management sites and prime targets for hackers because the rewards are so potentially high. Secondly, because I can't have a situation where a service goes offline and I can't recover my passwords. KeePass allows me and my team to manage our own passwords locally and still backup the key files elsewhere. We were even able to set up multi-user access so that passwords could be shared across a team. We're a small company, but with many clients, and keeping track of all those passwords was getting to be a nightmare. Now we have 1 place for everything!

Nachteile:

Multi-user mode needs a little bit of work. Basically, whoever saves last could potentially overwrite another users changes, however with a small business like hours, it would be rare for that to happen. However, as we expand and grow, that is definitely a consideration we'll have to make. Also, it doesn't permit you to manage and assign users to different passwords or folders of passwords, it's all or nothing access. Definitely a feature we'll need later on down the road.

Keepass stores your passwords in a safe and fast way.

5,0 vor 6 Jahren

Kommentare: The idea of having a password manager when you handle numerous amounts of information is helpful, this allows you to have all stored and protected in one place, Keepass can help you with this. You can create subgroups, generate additional information and even the link for the area you need to access on the web, if you use the option of self-access it will make things much easier for you to avoid marking errors.

Vorteile:

Like many programs that allow you to protect your password and keep them safe when you handle large amounts of information, Keepass being a free program, it turns out to be very complete, it is easy to use and only one password you must keep safe and that is what you allows you to enter the application, its interface is very familiar, it has nothing that makes it difficult to add new keys, generate information so you can identify what they belong to and only a group of users can access.

Nachteile:

For now I have nothing to add to indicate that Keepass has something wrong.

It's hard to not like it...but it's also hard to use it

4,0 vor 2 Jahren

Kommentare: KeePass is one of the top of line the Free and Open Source password management options out there...and when it comes to keeping your passwords safe...you kind of want a FOSS application doing that for you. So if you're a tech-savvy user looking for a highly customizable way to keep your passwords seriously secure this is the app for you. If you don't have a degree in IT or the time to muddle through the murky waters of generating, encrypting, and integrating your own secure passwords, then this probably isn't the way you want to go.

Vorteile:

What drew me to KeePass and what I like the most about it is that it's FOSS--free and open source. The developers did a really great job with the product. Users get complete control over their information and there are a lot of different options to choose from to help keep your passwords REALLY secure. Like...really, REALLY secure. I also loved all the different plug ins and extensions that they had, which is what most users expect from software like this. The best way to use KeePass is for in-browser use, especially since it doesn't have an "official" Android or iOS app--but considering its FOSS, I don't think the lack of official app is necessarily a bad thing.

Nachteile:

KeePass isn't user friendly, like at all, in anyway. It feels antiquated...which if were purely an aesthetic drawback wouldn't have deterred my use; however, it's not. I mean yes, the user interface looks old and outdated--it's not flashy, splashy, bright, or modernly luring in anyway, but what's worse is that interacting with the software is difficult. t's not "self-explanatory", it doesn't have any flow or direction, let alone guidance. It was a bummer.

I don't trust Cloud-based password managers. KeePass is the next best thing!

5,0 vor 6 Jahren

Kommentare: If you're like me and don't trust cloud-based solutions, use this! I love KeePass, and until I find out that they compromised my passwords, I'm going to use them forever!

Vorteile:

Very easy to use. I have my .kdbx file syncing on Google Drive and do monthly backups to Dropbox. This thing is great for saving my passwords because my memory is terrible. It also generates random passwords for you, but I don't usually use that feature. Also, they have so many configurable shortcuts. It's the little things that matter for this app.

Nachteile:

Wish there was a way to save/sync my settings. I have this installed on 4 different laptops, and I always need to open it up a previously installed one to copy my settings over. Not a big deal.

KeePass is A Good Key

4,0 vor 4 Jahren

Kommentare: Overall my experience with KeePass has been good, and very positive. Our parnet company has switched to a different password storage system that is more cloud-base so it is better controlled, but KeePass is still a program that I use on a daily. As mentioned I like that fact that it is easliy accessible and that I can hard acees to my login-information that I can copy and paste from it I need too.

Vorteile:

KeePass is a great tool for storing passwords on your system that are not cloud-based. What makes it great is it allows you to have access to the actual login information, and you don't have to rely on a cloud-based system to log in to specific sites, especially if you use multiple log-in information.

Nachteile:

What I least like about KeePass is that it allows you to save your log-in info as databases that you can give specific names too. The problem is that if you are not careful it will save them to a hidden folder on your hard drive which is hard to recover. Also, it lets you save as a URL, but I found that the URL save as is not very helpful and functional.
