Flexible tool that still requires improvements

Kommentare: I am using SDL Trados since 2008 and I am overall happy with it. Every time, though, they launch a new version it takes a couple of months until their version gets stable and doesn't crash any more.

Vorteile:

It has several useful functions, a good quality assurance process, it is easy to install and maintain.

Nachteile:

It is crashing frequently, it gets slow when you handle large files, it lacks some functionalities other CAT-Tools offer.

One of the best Computer Assisted Translation tools

Kommentare: I've been using Trados for over thirty years. It's an excellent professional Translation enviroment and CAT tool

Nachteile:

Powerful but unnecessarily complex. Avoid unless you have to use it.

Kommentare: My overall experience has been to sigh, cringe, shout, and overall feel like all my issues with Trados are the result of intentional design.

Vorteile:

It has lots of options that allow you to do practically anything you want. It is the industry standard, which allows you to work with others easily.

Nachteile:

It's complex, buggy, the layout is clumsy, features and options are hidden deep within the belly of the beast, and Trados' editor forces the use of their proprietary formats, which makes everyone's lives harder.

TRADOS IS THE BEST TRANSLATION TOOL

Kommentare: I translate always with Trados, I use Google Cloud. Now Aritifical Intelligence developeed.

Vorteile:

It saves from repetitions, it uses Memories, Machine Translation

Nachteile:

Its startup is sluggish though I naised memory to 16 mB RAM. It would be better to load after full openinğ.

Practical but too expensive

Kommentare: This software helped me to build my own private translation memory and made the translation process easier, faster and more accurate.

Vorteile:

The software is widely used by translation agencies and it's well known between professional translators and this is making it easy work with. Translation memory could be transferred smoothly between translation agencies and translators and the same could be done between translators themselves. The interface is easy to understand and many useful features are included to help translators doing a good job.

Nachteile:

There's no Auto-save feature. If the software became unresponsive or PC suddenly went off for any reason, all work done will be erased and couldn't be recovered. The software is too expensive.

Not the best CAT tool in the market

Kommentare: You better think of that if you consider implementing this system in your enterprise:
You definitely need to train your employees on it, it's not an easy to use App, it needs training and the courses about this software is an industry itself and I see that a weakness not a strength point.

Vorteile:

I give the software that it is really accepting (nearly) all formats you perhaps need to use in your works in localisation and translation industries.

Nachteile:

the cost of software is very high, it slows the computer (if you don't have a one with enough computing power) you feel like installing a heavy-software like photoshop! although you are dealing (or that just me?) just with texts. the UI are crowded, very crowded (when I using it I remember that I don't need a lot of its features)

Split files and assign to different translators proofreaders etc. Obligatory updates from Trados 2014 to 2019 for example. Price-point

Kommentare: I have mixed feeling about the product. It took me years to really accept it until the industry made it almost mandatory to use it and I had to learn how to use it.

Vorteile:

It has many likeable features which are updated frequently and work very well.

Nachteile:

Sometimes the software is hard to use and you need special training to understand and use the product.

Industry leading quality

Kommentare: Overall a very good translation solution, although a bit pricy since the new tarifs.

It can handle big translation memories, is multifunctional for almost any type of text or format.

Nachteile:

It sometimes has a bug, is not always straightforward to use, as it requires time to understand all of its functions. The price...

Absolutely the worst! Should totally be replaced by some big companies!

Kommentare: Terrible. User-unfriendly. Bugs here and there. When you use this, please be prepared to spend more time troubleshooting than translating.

Nothing. It wastes a lot of my time in troubleshooting every single time.

Nachteile:

It is soooooo damn difficult to use!!!! I have an B.A. and M.A. degree in Translating and Interpreting and took university courses about Translation Tools. And yet TRADOS is just sooooooo unbelievably difficult to use. Because my client sent me a Trados package, so I decided to switch to it. And yet, every single time, you have to spend hours in trouble shooting. If I used that much time in translating, I would have finished the tasks long time ago. There are sooooo many bugs. For example, you have put in the translation terms manually for soooo many times, and yet there is simply no hit or the term menu would not show up. You have put in all the right files, and yet sometimes it even refuses to create a project. You created a translation memory with an older version of the software, and it cannot even recognise the translation memories created by its own older version of products. Simply put, this is just dumbness!!!! The software is so stupid that it made itself so complicated to use. I believe that if Microsoft or Google were interested in the market, they would have made something far far better. And since its inception, Macbook has been so popular and yet there is still no mac version on the market. This company is just so unbelievably dumb! Trados were a breakthrough when it came out, but if it continues on this stupid and arrogant route, it should be deserted by the era. There are so many more replacement translation softwares that are far more user-friendly

Best CAT Tool on the market

Kommentare: I was used to other similar CAT tools, but overall Trados is the best tool by far.

Vorteile:

It really speed up my translations. The Machine Translations are really accurate.

Nachteile:

It takes a little time to get to know all the functionalities. It can be a little overwhelming at the beginning.

Advanced CAT tool

Vorteile:

Trados supports a lot more file formats than any other CAT tool. If I compare Trados to Memsource, it is more sophisticated, and has more applications; and the translator if he/her has some time to spend can customize the software and use its advantages to the fullest. A very good feature - 100% matches copy and confirm themselves. No need for the Internet. You just need your computer and a valid TRADOS version.

Nachteile:

It is harder to understand than, e.g., Memsource. You cannot just open the software and translate, you should train to use its full potential. I spend more time when translating using TRADOS than when I use Memsource. Quite expensive. I hate those almost yearly upgrades. At the end of 2018/beginning of 2019, I bought TRADOS 2017 version, and a few months later, I found out that TRADOS 2019 came out, so I just threw money down the drain. Later, TRADOS 2021 was released. And it goes and goes like that as now, here comes TRADOS 2022.!!! A translator might feel like a money-making machine for the company. You purchase a license and might think that's it - but no, two/three years later, you should upgrade because the support would run out. Another issue is that this CAT tool is not for beginners. It is difficult to understand, quite hard to use and takes a lot of time to get used to it. I still feel more comfortable with Memsource. The option to subscribe for the license and just pay quarterly could be a great option for TRADOS (it is for Memsource), therefore, I won't need to purchase software, I will just get the latest version as long as I pay the subscription fee. I cannot recommend TRADOS for beginners, it is software for advanced translators.

Powerful tool with a steep learning curve

Kommentare: Trados Studio is the business standard which means it that it's a must-have for any professional translator. It is difficult to learn, and never ceases to frustrate, but, overall, it can be the only tool you really need.

This software is standard within the translation business and therefore a must-have for every professional translator. The software can be very powerful once you have learned to master it.

Nachteile:

The learning curve is very steep, the user interface is counter-intuitive, bordering on byzantine. Even for power users with many years of use, this software never ceases to confuse. The development has stalled, which means that competing software is now just as good, or better, but Trados Studio is still a must-have due to its ubiquity.

Indispensable software for a translator

Vorteile:

It is very easy to understand and to use. You can easily go to the workflow section and once you have learned the main features (how to use TM and TB, add/remove tags, go to the next segment, etc) you will procede at high speed.

Nachteile:

Sometimes the review mode is inserted without having chosen it.

Reliable But Super Expensive!

Kommentare: A very good software overall, anyone starting out as a translator should take advantage of Trados trial before committing to buy it, they should ready their pockets though.

Vorteile:

Easy to set-up and deploy. Even easier to start a project in almost any language spoken in the world. I can reuse my TMs on any project i am working on, a very good feature. Navigation through the panels is easy and self-explanatory, saving projects and locating them is super easy.

Nachteile:

Too expensive! Whats with yearly upgrades? i mean if i do not renew definitely i do not get feature upgrades and yet i possess the software. Bulky. As you use it overtime expect your RAM and storage to be depleted with time.

Excellent product but pricey

Kommentare: I have a copy of Trados 2017, it is an excellent product, however a bit pricey, I've paid I think 200 euros for the license, and the support if lose your hard drive is a bit slow regarding recovering the key. Other support only work on working days. The product itself couldn't be better, is top of the market for some reason.

Vorteile:

Excellent compatibility, easy to use after learning, used and accepted by almost every provider.

Nachteile:

Pricey, support only works on working days, requires a lot of computer resources.

Been using SDL Trados for years now - very happy and will continue to use it.

Kommentare: Translations are done better and faster.

Vorteile:

It does what it needs to and it does it well. Very well recognized name with other vendors so easy to find people who use it.

Nachteile:

Sometimes the updates and licensing can be a bit of a pain. Unless you pay extra the support turn around time can be a bit slow (but they are always friendly and will do everything they can for you)

Initially difficult to get the hang of it but after just a few projects became easy and automatic.

Vorteile:

After you've learned most features, you realise all the great qualities, for example, creating a translation memory or your own terminology database basically using any languages you work with, while also providing different specialised fields where you can save them according to your own categories. It adds up to an incredible time saver that increases your productivity, which is also accountable, because it keeps track of how many words you've translated and also tells you how much further you have to go.

Nachteile:

I would have to say its incompatibility with other softwares. You cannot share translation memories or any other documents with non Trados users.

Absolutely essential for a professional translator

Kommentare: In my opinion, SDL Trados is the most complete CAT tool on the market.
As well as offering basic features such as automatic alignment and adaptive TMs, the more advanced functionalities such as AutoSuggest, PerfectMatch or termbase integration will greatly boost your productivity.
It also offers some project management and preparation capabilities, which do come in handy.
Further useful plug ins and apps can be found on the SDL AppStore, although purchasing the individual licenses can get pricy.
All in all, a great proudct, though there are cheaper CAT tools out there .

Productivity boost, PDF reader, ease of use, great design.

Nachteile:

The price point.

Excellent Translation memory

Vorteile:

Allows to work with MS Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, HTML-documents and files of other formats. Trados has a module for glossaries. Although I'm not an interpreter, but an editor, I still enjoy using the application.

Nachteile:

At first there were difficulties with the interface, but after a few days I got used to it and all the questions disappeared.

Difficult and overpriced software

Kommentare: I have never had a great experience with Trados. Yes, it is capable of a lot, but it costs so much time to be able to learn how to effectively use it, and for the number of errors and problems you can come across while trying to figure it out, it's completely not worth it.

Vorteile:

The only real benefit I see to using Trados is that a lot of people use it, so as a linguist it would be a great tool to have just to be able to work on projects for clients that use Trados.

Nachteile:

This software is so expensive! Honestly, I believe it is seriously overpriced. It is SO difficult and complicated to use, completely NOT intuitive or user friendly. It takes a lot of time to learn how to use it well and to maximize the benefits and features. There are often unexplainable bugs that can slow down projects and make life plain frustrating.

Powerful CAT tool

Vorteile:

The program is simply indispensable for all those who professionally translate. It is convenient to work with Word and PDF. The interface is clear, you can quickly understand all the functions. There is a module for connecting dictionaries.

Nachteile:

The program should be purchased by professionals and those who earn remittances. Like any other CAT tool, Trados is not suitable for literary translations. From technical shortcomings - the program takes up a lot of space.

Great software for translations gig. It has amazing translation memory that makes it quick and easy to translate long files.

Nachteile:

Trados could up its design and make the experience a bit more fun and innovative. I hope to see this change in the near future.

Makes Language Services Accessible

Kommentare: Overall ok because the software is designed for people who translate lengthy works regularly not those who may need to translate infrequently (making price too costly).

Vorteile:

The software is reputed and very popular in the language services industry. The translation capacity is very large allowing fast translation of long articles.

Nachteile:

Word banks that are stored in the memory can be improved as well as the overall accuracy of common languages. Human proofreading is still essential to accurate translation and I would like to see better prices for users who don't need to run the software frequently.
