Kommentare: Never was able to use time tracking software effectively, with the reporting that this program offers, I have the perfect way of billing the minutes/hours I've spent on that specific project.

Vorteile:

The way of tracking of what you're actually spending time with on your computer. It's so easy to get carried away. The developer is an incredibly nice individual. The support I've received was outstanding. It's very impressive to see a one-man army build such an awesome product, with all the inbound educational content and product management, that goes into building this piece of software.

Nachteile:

Definitely takes some time to set up the way it works best for you. There is a high level of customizability with all the rules. I believe the next level of major expansion is team capabilities. It's perfect for 1 person, but as a business manager, it would be wonderful to have built-in sharing capabilities. But the report exporting functionality is great too!

At every corner this app succeeds!

Kommentare: After using it to understand where my time was going throughout my day I was able to better build my calendar for the new year. This let me begin moving forward in freelance contracting while also allowing my clients to better understand where their money is going.

Vorteile:

At every corner this app succeeds. With a fair pricing model and a supportive and quick to respond developer it has set the standard for the other apps I use. Design wise Timing is extremely clean, while giving you a fantastic amount of information to look at and use while not being excessive. My time with Timing has been nothing but a joy to use and has paid for itself ten fold.

Nachteile:

I wish there was an API for adding functionality from other apps, or your own, I feel it would really improve how Timing works in the long run. Otherwise, no real complaints.

Timing has made time tracking so much less painful

Kommentare: I find I am able to bill more accurately and am not guessing on how I spent my time if I forgot to start a clock. I love that it is my safety blanket, and it keeps me focused when I look at how I spend time.

Vorteile:

I do a daily review of how I spent my time not only for billing purposes but also to see how I can continue to focus on productivity. I love the ability to create custom rules based on file names/patterns, paths, urls, and more so you don't even have to think about starting and stopping a clock. And it works/syncs on both of my computers so it doesn't matter if I am on my iMac or MBP. It really is a modern way to track time!

Nachteile:

Every time I have a wish list item I send it in to the team and everything that was possible they've basically included in a release.

Best way to track your Context Switching.

Kommentare: The main problem that Timing solves for me is the fact that it makes my Context Switching easier to record with less worries about who I book which portion of my day to.

Vorteile:

I like the fact that I am able to cary on with my day as normal and then at the end of the Day or even the end of the Week, go back and review all my actions. This way I can context switch between customers and helping colleagues without loosing track of where I spent my time. This makes filling my time sheets after a busy week so much easier. I am recommending this app to anyone that have multiple projects and activities during the same day or week.

Nachteile:

I have not found anything I dislike about this app yet, and have been using it for more than 8 months now.

Tracking Time Cannot Be Easier

Vorteile:

It automatically tracks your time without manual intervention. You don't have to tell it when you're using a program or when to stop. You can associate a program/folder/keywords with a project and it will automatically assign the time to the project. If you need to, you can also assign a period of time as a task to a project overriding any individual program's assignment. It also includes sync between multiple computers now.

Nachteile:

It takes a while to onboard with setting up projects and customizing the automatic assignments. Then, much like any workflow/process, you need to adjust your personal habits to get the benefit of having Timing track your application usage.

Must have Time Keeping application for personal development and client billing

Kommentare: Accurately records time either pro-actively or reactively with full details on application context. Timing is a must-have application for anyone who needs to reflect or record time accurately and makes it a breeze to not miss a beat.

Slice and dice views are limited. Would have been nice to click on any keyword to see which entries it affects etc. Integration in Calendar is limited and needs an export script

Great software for time tracking

Kommentare: Writing daily report or reports per projects goes from couple of hours to couple of seconds.

Vorteile:

Automatic tracking of software usage that you can later easily put in report shape. Perfect tool for freelancers that will make day work easier. It is enough that once you create rule for specific app, file or folder, then application will automatically record hours for project or task. Nice thing is that you can create rules for un-productive things (example: social networks) so you can see how much daily minutes (maybe hours :)) you waste in time of work.

Nachteile:

Software have some missing features, but in support conversation, plenty of them will be implemented in future versions.

Amazing

Kommentare: This software saves me so much time and hassle. I'm a freelancer and I use this app everyday. The developer is actively working to continually improve it and it shows. I love mac, and this app is 100% Mac. Very simple and intuitive while providing complex options for time organization.

Vorteile:

This software is simple and it has worked well for years now without problems.

Nachteile:

If anything, I'd say the price is a little high. But this app has little to no flaws that I can see after using it for the last few years.

Habitual color coders and people who like very individualized folders/tags will really using Timing.

Kommentare: I have been able to keep better track of my hourly activities for each of my clients. Before, my invoices were detailed, but still not as detailed as they are now. I also have the ability to look back on exactly what I did for a certain time period should a client ask for more specific details.

Vorteile:

I love being able to color code all of my activities. As a freelancer, I use different colors to indicate different tasks, clients, and other assignments. Another feature that is super helpful is the rule editor. Some of my daily activities don't necessarily "weigh" in at the same importance level, which is why I use the rule editor every time I start up a new project.

Nachteile:

Despite the tutorials I received during the first week, it still seemed a little counter-intuitive. I think I would like to have a section in the "About" tab with a little guide section, although that is probably just a personality flaw.

Fully automatic time tracking done right

Vorteile:

After an initial setup period, where you define rules for automatic classification of app usage, using this app is remarkably easy. Time spent on all apps is accounted for, and you can easily visualize the results in beautiful reports. Many stats are supported, such as: histogram of activity, time per project per week, most used apps, etc. Moreover, these stats can be computed on arbitrary periods of time (e.g. yesterday, last 30 days, last year, or any other range). Users can assign a "productivity score" to each project. The global productivity score is then computed each day, as well as evolution of productivity per hour or day. With the more "pro" licenses, advanced exporting options are available. I'm very happy to get these very complete insights with so little effort.

Nachteile:

There are a few features that I would have liked to see supported, even though they are not dealbreakers. Initial setup: Depending on the number of combinations of applications and work directories in use, it can take a bit of time to setup the automatic classification rules. The matching engine is very powerful, but the UI to set rule priority is not super friendly. After this initial setup period though, everything runs very smoothly. Lack of timezone support: If I spend e.g. 6 months in the US, and 6 months in Europe, the reports will convert all past activities to the current timezone instead of whatever the local time was when the activity was recorded. This means that the histogram of "active hours", etc will be wrong. Lack of synchronization: When using two or more machines, all activities and projects are completely independent. The developper proposes scripts to import & export projects, which helped me get started on my work laptop. However, time tracked from then on, as well as projects and classification rules evolve independently on each machine. There's no way to get a global view of activity on all machines. I realize that proper synchronization would be very difficult to implement, and probably a pretty niche use-case. I was able to contact the developer with this feedback. He was very responsive and took time to explain the different design tradeoffs or difficulties in implementing some of the proposed features.

Timing takes time to setup but afterwards helps you understand your time perfectly!

Kommentare: I used to think I was a super busy guy who did not have time for all the troubles of life. But, after tracking my time on this software for the past month+, I have come to realize that I spend more of my time in passive enjoyment like browsing the web or watching youtube instead of actively enjoying activities like reading a book or playing sports. This realization has helped me understand why I felt so busy and unhappy: because I was spending all my "free time" on things that did not make me happy, so I kept spending more and more time to relax without any progress, which lead to me not putting enough time into my work. Now I try to spend most of my time either enjoying high-quality, fun activities or doing focused work, nothing in between.

Vorteile:

- Very reliable - Doesn't crash, ever - Always tracking time - Very colorful UI with good visualization mechanisms - Customizable - Detail-oriented - Trial is so long you will 100% by the end whether you like it or not

Nachteile:

- Pricing maybe a bit too high, but the time invested into this and the fact that it's not subscription based like a lot of other premium software justifies it. - Takes some up front time to setup the different projects and what key words/tasks automatically associate with what projects. After that, it's smooth sailing. - Very, very MINOR: A lot of manual reassignment of activities need to be done from project to project if you use one piece of software or website for many projects. This is just a limitation of the program being simple enough for users and having a very straightforward "if it contains these words put it into this project." The problem arises when one word fits into multiple projects, but in certain situations the task maps to the wrong project. This is a con, but is something that should be expected since I can't think of any software in the world that can do something like that. Fixing this problem might lie in some Machine Learning applications :) So this trade off arises in order to increase the ease of use for users in my opinion!

Tracks time spent, applications used and more

Vorteile:

I love that this software tracks all I do, and when, while using any applications on my computer. I do not always remember to start the timer when I am working between clients, but I can go back and see what I was doing and on what application, along with for how long, afterwards. I use it for multiple clients to track my time, and the time clock is great, too, bc you can add in what you are doing. I also like that you can set shortcuts for starting and stopping the clock and edit any entry if needed, and even add an entry after the fact.

Nachteile:

I do not like that sometimes I will see "unknown activity" as a description for what I was doing, when all applications I use have titles of either documents, emails, files, etc. However, the benefits FAR outweigh that little annoyance.

Phenomenal Resource for Productivity

Kommentare: Because of I'm timing, I'm able to first see just how productive I am. I didn't think I was that productive during the day, but I'm realizing I am more productive than I thought. I'm also noticing I'm staying on track more than I was before. I won't go to social media to goof off because I know it's "watching." I also love that it keeps track of everything for me because I've used other programs before where I had to manually go in and start/stop and edit things and honestly, I'd tell a little white to the program (and myself) that I was "productive" the entire time. That's not helping me. This program doesn't really allow for it -- I mean, I know I can, but I don't because of the automaticity. I love this program and I don't even know all of the FULL benefits yet (I just upgraded to expert-- SO EXCITED!). Thank you so much for creating this program!

Vorteile:

There are so many things I love about this software that I don't even know where to start. I love how it helps me stay on track with what I'm doing during the day, increases my productivity, and see what areas I need to focus on more. It's incredibly easy to use and has so many various ways to analyze your data. I also love that it runs automatically for me instead of requiring me to start it myself. In other programs, I'd forget.

Nachteile:

There really are no cons. The only thing I can think of is at first it seems overwhelming, but Timing took care of that by providing tutorials that were short and helpful. The less than one minute things are sometimes annoying because I'm not sure where to sort them.

This fantastic little app has saved me so many times!! Great for freelancers who bill by the hour!

Vorteile:

Works painlessly and silently behind the scenes - I don't know it's there until I suddenly find I need to know what I was doing and for how long on a given day two weeks ago. No nag dialogs, no remembering to start a timer or notate something, just tells you in extreme detail what you did and when you did it. Very flexible reporting.

Nachteile:

I still don't quite get some of the rule-setting and how those rules interact with the various apps, but really, I could just use this with it's default settings out of the box and it does what I need.

Timing should be pre-installed on Mac OS devices ;)

Kommentare: It's beneficial to use this application if you are looking for automatic time tracking. Since I bought this application I don't bother about filling up work timesheets daily, I can do it at the very end of the month because all data is stored inside​ the app.

Vorteile:

It's super convenient to use this app. It precisely measures how much time you spend using any of your​ apps.

Nachteile:

Some of the apps do​ not support Timing, so you are not able to track what you've been doing by window titles. It is troublesome. Apps like: Franz

An Indispensable App for Busy Professionals

Kommentare: At the end of every day, I'm able to look through my Timing records and update my company's internal time tracking system with the appropriate tasks. Because I'm a busy team leader, I get called to so many questions, tasks, and meetings that I struggle to keep track of everything I did during the day. This tool is the solution to that problem, allowing me to see all the programs I was using and remember where my time went throughout the day so I can update the appropriate customer accounts. It even asks you what you were doing when you return to your computer, allowing you to quickly log that last meeting, etc.

Vorteile:

I have tried many of these kinds of "background" time tracking programs and none of them have gotten it right like Timing does. I live that Timing provides a timeline of what you were doing at any given time. Many other programs track that information, but they don't provide a clean and easy-to-use interface so you can see that. I'm also thrilled that Timing has AppleScript support so I can export my data in the format I need.

Nachteile:

Sometimes if I step away from my desk for a few minutes and come back, the "what were you doing" notification is a bit annoying, but it's a minor disturbance compared to the value provided by the software.

This is an amazing product, a killer app for productivity and time tracking freaks.

This is a very powerful tool, I would be hard pressed to identify what it may be lacking. I switched to Timing from an equivalent online tool that would upload data into their servers, so obviously keeping my data on my machine only is a great bonus for privacy. The user interface is not only detailed and thorough, it is also well-designed and engaging. Customer support has also proved to be excellent. It's a very deep app and I am just scratching the surface of what it can provide me, yet it is already a great help.

Nachteile:

The learning curve is a bit steep, but that price is well worth the payoff in the end. In the latest version of the app (v2), it took me a while to set up all my automatic filters and rules. But I have had a good setup going for a few months now and it is proving very useful for tracking my time and seeing exactly what I am doing and when.

I have been using Timing for more than 6 months now and I have to say that it gives a great sense of satisfaction to be able to organize your day into distinctive time slots which can be allotted to various tasks. Timing app allows for this to be done seamlessly. I like the visualization it provides and that gives a good insight into where your time went.

Nachteile:

The interface could be simpler and more modern. Upon looking at it for the first time, some folks can be overwhelmed as it may seem like too many things going on.

Timing is a great tool for self control and uncovering unproductive times

Vorteile:

The most important feature of timing is that during the work day there is no manual effort needed. You just open the app and it tracks the time spent in each program in the background. It has some preset rules for categorising different apps. During the review of the time there is some manual effort required to categorise the unassigned applications. This is really easy and can be done with Drag and Drop. The visualisation of the data is great. The overview page gives a nice glance over the most important statistics. If you need to go deeper there are more sophisticated reporting tools. I use the app mostly to track personal and university projects. I tend to procrastinate a lot and the app helps me uncover it so I know how much time I have lost. The Overview is especially useful for this.

Nachteile:

The User-Interface looks great but the User-Experience could be better. You have to get used to the different pages and have to search for specific functions. After you have learned the application it is easy to use but it takes some time.

Most advanced time tracking software that I've ever used

Vorteile:

I am using Timing all the time, nearly 5k hrs, to track all my activities. Timing has a useful project management system that can separate my task into individual projects and give me weekly reports so it's easier for me to control my time more efficiently.

Nachteile:

It's not very friendly for a new user since you have to configure all the rules by yourselves. I would say if Timing can have a general rule or reference rule for common websites like Youtube or Facebook, it would be easier for people to get used to it.

For e.g., I love the menu bar icon that shows my current efficiency rate Feature rich: - It already knows about a bunch of things and knows how to classify them. For e.g., it is familiar with domains related to development - I can train it the way I want to. For e.g., I can tell the app to log all hours I spend in the Ulysses app into my development projects - Quite a few number of reports that allows me to slice and dice the data as I want to. This makes it very easy for me to bill my clients very accurately. In fact, I have just started to attach a screenshot of the report (filtered on the client) in my invoice to some clients. They appreciate the transparency. - I also use it to monitor my personal work. For e.g., Netflix appears in bright red in my 'Time Wasters' project

It just works!

I'm a freelancer and I was looking for a good program that could track the amount of time I devote to each project. I found Timing and I can say it's the best solution out there. When they say that it tracks automatically your work, it simply does! Just spend some minutes setting up some rules and how productive your activities are, and the system will do all its magic in the background. The layout is beautiful and you can easily get a summary of how you spent your time today. An absolutely great solution, very nice looking app, and outstanding support! Highly recommended!

Nachteile:

None so far. They had an issue with tracking programs when you were in fullscreen, but I contacted them and they fixed it.

Important tool even if you're not a professional

Kommentare: Not only I'd advice timing for the professional who has to bill for a project, but also for who works on a product or for a company and in the busiest time forgets to track hours.

Vorteile:

You don't have to do anything. Timing just tracks your time. If you like you could customise behaviours and rules to best match your work.

Nachteile:

Sometimes its interface is not super intuitive.
