Kommentare: This review is based solely on the experience of transitioning from Disqus to Spot over at Entertainment Weekly's online magazine. Spot has taken over from Disqus as the mode of commenting on various articles and recaps/reviews the magazine offers on a daily basis, and to say that transition has been anything less than stellar would be a massive understatement. For a few weeks, many of us regular commenters at EW had noticed the new Spot.IM system being integrated (replacing, in other words) the Disqus commenting format on a variety of new articles, and a companion piece written on the front page of the EW website touted this move as taking over all comment pages in the near future. Well, that did indeed take place, and in a most jarring form...the weekly "Survivor" recap typically generates anywhere from 700-1000 comments after any given episode, and the day after the latest episode had aired there were already over 600 comments when...*poof*, out with Disqus and in with Spot. Wow was what many of us said, and wrote, and not in a good way. Annoying popups to expand either a given comment or a comment thread; downvotes from shills at Spot, along with cheerleadery "isn't this new system FABULOUS!!" (umm, no), comments disappearing, or not appearing at all...you name it, if it was bad, it happened. There's more to write about on this topic, but I do have an actual job that needs some attention...suffice to say, I'm not a fan, and you can count many thousands of others who are also not fans.
