Zabbix review

Vorteile:

The single best thing about zabbix is that it's completely free but without lacking anything compared to commercial monitoring tools. It covers pretty much everything from windows servers, esxi servers, HTTP endpoints till our UPS. It produces meaningful graphs and has triggers for each alert. Also it integrates with a lot of tools like Pagerduty to receive alerts. Overall its a complete enterprize level monitoring solution for the infrastructure

Nachteile:

I would say zabbix has 2 downsides. The first is that you need to configure everything and it can be intimidating if you are not experienced user and the second is the web scenarios for http endpoint monitoring isnt neither great nor straightforward.

Arguably the best open source monitoring tool on the market today

Kommentare: Fantastic tool that is setup to monitor and alert on all our hosts and APIs.

Vorteile:

Beats many/most SaaS monitoring tools with zero cost as an open source platform. Has a native agent for many OSs that can be deployed easily. We use Zabbix to monitor our systems in a data center and cloud all with a single dashboard. Can be extended to use Web Scenarios which will performance monitor systems/connectivity, too. Probably the best open source tool for monitoring on the market.

Nachteile:

You need to host it yourself and setup does take some time to get all systems monitoring and dashboards created. (The tool does have a find feature so it will auto import most systems on your network or VPC so that gives a good starting place).

Difficult, but funcional

Vorteile:

It makes it easy to track machine health, and you can integrate with software like Pagerduty to warn of incidents. It saves you the trouble of scanning a screen and an action because so much you can automate

Nachteile:

It is difficult to use and configure, you need to study the tool hard to get a good potential for use of it. The courses are kind of expensive too

The best monitoring tool I've used

Kommentare: Zabbix server can be one of the best tools in your IT arsenal, but it does come with quite a steep learning curve. It's an open-source tool, so it does take a lot more time and patience to configure and setup the way you want it to be, but there are a lot of great documentation sites out there including Zabbix's own. Not to mention they have some paid for training courses with certifications, which is awesome. If you spend the time to properly read up on Zabbix and get it setup the way you need it to, I promise you won't regret not paying for an off the shelf SaaS solution.

Vorteile:

It's open-source! What isn't to love about a high quality, highly configurable, high functioning IT management tool that is 100% free. Besides the fact that it's open-source and free, the Zabbix platform is incredibly configurable, meaning it's not one shoe fits all. It can be 100% customised to work for your specific needs in your unique business/IT setup.

Nachteile:

The only thing I would really like, is an officially supported Zabbix mobile app. Although some awesome developer out there has done one themselves, which I've used in the past, one that was properly supported and integrated securely with Zabbix itself would be amazing as someone in IT on the go.

Zabbix is the best monitoring tool

Kommentare: I am currently using the 6.X version (i previously used the 4.X and the 5.X ones). And I must say Zabbix is a very good product for keeping monitored your equipment, you should try it.
You can monitor software and hardware metrics via agent, snmp or ipmi. You can download a lot of templates to expand the range of items that can give you data or create by yourself (and so you can have triggers to alert you when values are not what they should be).
You can create your own dashboards and choose what to display.
Remember to allow traffic for TCP ports 10050-10051 as they used by Zabbix Agent, UDP ports 161-162 for SNMP and 623 for IPMI. The file agent.conf (on windows or linux machines) should be configured to match the Zabbix server IP address and in case of active agent, the exact name on the host.
Zabbix can collect data of any kind, from a server you can have of course disks space values, but also you can be alerted if a windows event took place, in this case you have to use the zabbix agent active and create items and triggers.
There is a lot of documentation on internet, so in case of need you will easily find your answers.

You need a Linux machine to install Zabbix Server and a minimum of knowledgement about how Linux OS works.

Zabbix is the best choice for monitoring devices

Kommentare: Zabbix helps me to keep an eye on what's happening on my devices. Thanks to Graph and Dashboards I have always "the situation under control". Updates are frequent (I am using the 6.X version).
Among the monitoring programs I used I think it's the best, above all, stable and customizable.

Vorteile:

Zabbix can monitor a lot of devices, using agents (linux or windows), snmp, ipmi and alerts you when any value is out of normal ranges. A trigger will appear on dashboard and you can also be notified via email or via telegram for example. Zabbix server must be installed on linux machine. There are a lot of websites that explain how to install it. You will find a lot of information or support in case of need. You can import and create you own templates and create items and triggers to suit your needs. Agent can be passive (Zabbix server "calls" the host) or active (the host calls Zabbix server) if you need to monitor e.g. windows log events.

Nachteile:

You need to know a little bit of Linux in order to install and update Zabbix Server and some programming language to create items and triggers

Zabbix monitoring

Kommentare: It has been a daily use tool for years in my work. It allows me to see the status of multiple servers and applications at a glance.

Vorteile:

Order in the program and number of options. Templates that cover dozens of use cases.

Nachteile:

The database must be maintained periodically

Eye for environment

Kommentare: Using Zabbix is quite easy and effective to monitor the environment with proper graphical records and the cost is also good to consider. The support community is big and knowledgable.

Vorteile:

1. Documentation and community is wide and extremely helpful. 2. Extremely easy deployment and usage. 3. Dashboard is power of this platform and proper graphical orientation.

Nachteile:

1. Slow working and alerting. 2. Integration is sometime difficult as manual scripts are needed.

Great and Easy Monitoring

Vorteile:

Super easyy but very customisable dashboards, wich can be shared very easily amongst Teammembers

Probably the Learning-Curve with setting up Dashboards. I am missing some Tutorials, but thats stuff Third Partys uploaded to Youtube

Zabbix a useful and easy to use tool

Kommentare: We quickly required a tool that would allow us to monitor network devices at the Latam level, we used a demo and it was excellent, so we decided to purchase it.

Vorteile:

The tool has a very simple and intuitive handling so it is not complicated to implement or operate it

Nachteile:

many people use it as a free tool and have generated a bad reputation but in reality there is Zabbix Licensed that has many more functionalities

The management of public services is a daily challenge. Thus, the real time monitoring of our application servers affects directly the citizen experience with public services.

Nachteile:

Zabbix supplies our monitoring purposes and are a core component of our public services management. We believe that UI/UX can improve in terms of reducing the needs of adding third parties tools

Best software to monitor Servers

Vorteile:

Zabbix hepls in network monitoring, server monitoring, and many more. It helps a lot in server monitoring by giving configure alerts on time. It shows servers stats in many forms like graph, chart and e-mail alerts. It is also very cost-effective.

Nachteile:

zabbix documentation is very challenging. Sometimes i will find the Zabbix documentation difficult to navigate or understand, especially for advanced use cases. I suggest to improve a liitle bit to understand.

Monitoring servers and applications seamlessly

Vorteile:

I have been using this tool for quite sometime now for managing servers, monitoring their performance and applications as well. Their graphical representation and configuration are very good.

Nachteile:

The outputs displayed can be made more user friendly and multi tab facilities can be introduced.

Not a market leader for nothing

Kommentare: I worked at an IT service provider for 4 years as an IT project manager and later as an IT service manager. In both positions I experienced the implementation and operation of the Zabbix tool connected especially to OTRS.

Vorteile:

The educational material provided for IT professionals to learn how to work with the tool is excellent. The number of functions that the tool provides in IT service provider environments is wide. And the amount of integrations is huge.

Nachteile:

The learning curve for being a network administrator using Zabbix is not low. Network administration is not an easy task and the Zabbix tool does not make the task any easier.

Open-source enterprise grade monitoring solution

Kommentare: General purpose open source monitoring tool which provides a good starting point for day 2 operations.

Vorteile:

It was very straightforward to get started using the software. Zabbix is open source monitoring platform and there are a number of different ways to quickly install the product. All that is required is a compatible linux distribution and persistence layer. I used Centos and PostgreSQL. A few commands later and I had Zabbix up and running. Our primary goal was to use Zabbix for network monitoring, although it does offer support for almost any type of resource. Since the project has been around for a while there are a large number of plugins available for both hardware and software applications. However most of these are fairly generic and you will need to write (or pay) for advanced integrations). If you need support, zabbix offers multiple tiers of support depending on your SLA requirements.

Nachteile:

Lack of automated backend processing to keep the database tuned to peak performance. As mentioned before, if you need a custom integration, or a more complete integration for an existing solution, you'll need learn how to customize zabbix. Depending on your team's technical ability, this might be a challenging endeavor, as the provided documentation can be lacking. While you have the ability to generate reports, Zabbix doesn't support all file formats.

Vorteile:

- Extensibility: you can add your own triggers and monitor nearly any aspect of nearly any system; - Integration with notification mechanisms (Slack, SMS, Telegram, Email) allows to deliver warnings to responsible person and eliminate the issue; - Affordable and widespread solution: you'll have no issues finding personnel to configure and support the solution in-house.

Nachteile:

- The solution might look overwhelming to non-tech people at first, but it's still ergonomic.

Seamless one-stop for any monitoring

Kommentare: For a cloud monitoring system, including custom processes and polls, it has proven useful in both monitoring and administration.

Vorteile:

The customization of triggers. Easily configure any trigger like a watchdog for any process, event or other. Fast email delivery, integration with other collaboration tools. Fresh and clean dashboard (also configurable).

Nachteile:

A more interactive dashboard. While you are watching it, there are intervals of refreshing the data, but I couldn`t find anything less than 15 seconds. Which, in all honesty is fine, but in a fast paced environment, it would be useful to have it "live-stream" without any delay. Especially in networking aspect.

Big range of monitoring options, like active and passive agents and proxies, SNMP and IPMI monitoring, provides me the tools to do a pro-active support to my customers

sometimes a bit overwhelming due to the quantity of options

Vorteile:

automatic topology is not present in the tool.

Zabbix the most Delectable, profound and Omnious website monitoring Tool.

Kommentare: The tool prevents my servers storage from running out of space and it is flexible as it keeps on evolving and adding new features to meet all our needs.

Vorteile:

It makes it simple to monitor and track network performance. It instantly sends alerts incase there is a problem with our servers. It can be gotten for free.

Nachteile:

The tool meets all my need for me to find a dislike.

Awesome Monitoring

Kommentare: I use it to monitor all my servers and networks. Works best on Linux.

Vorteile:

You can monitor and graph anything. It is so flexible. Link it to Grafana for even prettier graphs.

Nachteile:

I wish there was a Windows version of Zabbix Proxy.

Steep learnig curve

Vorteile:

The software is feature rich and very stable. It's an amazing solution

Nachteile:

It's a bit hard for those who are new to Zabbix.

That single notification system you need in case everything starts burning

Vorteile:

Once you get used to it being open on another monitor or in the background, that becomes part of your office life. If you suspect something's going wrong - a quick look at the dashboard will already give you an idea or where to dig.

Nachteile:

Configuration wise it seems all locked to the skilled admins that know how to deal with it, putting it out of reach of regular users. Seems to be lacking customization for the dashboard style.

Very helpful for quick data

Vorteile:

Sometimes it's tough to sort through a bunch of logs and get a real idea of what's going on if you aren't that savvy at reading them, or need a quick visual to present to others that would fit that first category. Zabbix has you covered on both ends.

Nachteile:

Some of the data can be a bit intimidating, but that's really a user issue.
