Using Datadog to guarantee bug-free software

Vorteile:

All of Datadog's basic building blocks are top-notch. Their data ingestion is lightning fast and (usually) dependable, their graph widget is adaptable and usable in a wide variety of contexts, and they have a good track record of introducing products that combine these features.

Nachteile:

Our experiences with Datadog support have been continuously negative; the company goes out of its way to avoid direct communication and offers irrelevant answers.

Go-to Observability+ Platform

Kommentare: See pros and cons. My experience is mostly great. My go-to tool given the funds are there. Just be aware that support is lacking. I would love to see this improve and it would help us greatly if we were able to reliably get good help.

Vorteile:

Ease of use, extensive features, intuitive design. By far the easiest observability platform I've ever used while also being the most feature dense. Impressive, and improving faster than I can even keep up.

Nachteile:

Datadog support leaves much to be desired. They tend to be extremely dismissive, often trying to close the ticket as quickly as they can without offering any help. You really need to ask for escalations or hop on a call to get legitimate help the majority of the time. There is a long-running inside joke at our company that any bug we find will only get the response "ok, we can put in a feature request"...

Ability to sort through logs and filter by specific keywords.

Nachteile:

The UI is a little hard to get used to, so the learning curve is pretty high.

Best Single Pane of Glass Monitoring Solution

Kommentare: Overall, I like DataDog a lot. It beats the various disparate monitoring products we were using before.

Vorteile:

APM and single pain of glass. This makes it easy to get host metrics for resource utilization and an easy traceback for exceptions.

Nachteile:

Searching logs is not as intuitive as I would like. Text search doesn't work when logs are sent as JSON. Simple grep would make things easier.
