I am using the software mainly for STPA/CAST analysis. I found that drawing the control structure (as part of the analysis) using Astah System Safety is really user friendly with very flexible user interface to customize/modify the diagrams.
The software in its current version does not support customization, which makes it difficult for researchers who would like to explore and test extension/modification of the STAMP methodology using Astah.

Using Astah System Safety for Maritime Systems
Kommentare: We are working on defining the system & software architecture of unmanned maritime systems. From the onset of the project it was decided to use SysML to capture knowledge and be able to communicate this in and outside the project team. The team is relatively unexperienced with the use of SysML and this is where STPA helps to structure. So far this worked. ASTAH Support are really helpful in this process too.
The integration of STPA and the SysML parts is one of the big benefits for us. It provides guidance in the conceptual design of safety critical Maritime systems. The SysML provides us with the functionality we need without exposing the team to too much choices and functionality. The result is a clean and easy to use user interface.
The integration between STPA and SysML can probably be improved. It is a possible to create hyperlinks between components / blocks and relations, but a more thorough and conceptual integration might be very useful. What also might be useful is a way to structure the STPA model similar to applying a package / folder structure in SysML. STPA Components can be used for that but it is somewhat awkward.

Connecting elements is very easy. GUI is decent.
Not in line with recent version of GSN 3. Bit of struggle with coherent numbering of core elements of GSN.
