Manage big virtual environment!

Kommentare: I enjoy using vSphere every day to connect to my virtual environment. This makes my job easier when testing application security because I can run tests on multiple machines and in multiple configurations at the same time.

Vorteile:

I really like the reliability of vSphere. It's hard for me to remember situations when I had a problem connecting to the virtual environment or when it was unstable. Working with virtual machines and their configuration is very simple. Restoring machines to their initial state or reconfiguring them takes little time and you can focus on their effective use.

Nachteile:

If I were to change something in vSphere it would be the User Interface UI. Unfortunately, tab navigation and menus are not well designed and require some getting used to. Better interface planning could improve productivity and user satisfaction.

Perfect for hosting private clouds on-prem

Kommentare: Largley positive, but when there is an incident affecting the entire cluster, you can expect to have a bad day. For example if there are locking issues within the cluster against a fibre-channel storage array, you may need to reboot the entire cluster resulting in an outage of 100% of all infrastructure on the platform.

Vorteile:

The web UI makes it very easy to manage ESXi hosts and their configuration, as well as individual VM configuration. It is simple to setup an HA toplogy with numerous VMs running on a cluster of ESXi (hypervisor) hosts. DRS makes it simple to automatically migrate VMs between hosts in a cluster.

Nachteile:

The licencing of features is complex, and base level licences preclude feature such as storage vMotion and DRS. This should be part of the base offering. The vSphere API is a bit clunky and the SDKs available in python are quire fragmented. No infrastructure as code offerings are made as all configuration is generally done manually by clicking the mouse, or via manual CLI commands.

This is a powerful tool to virtualize datacenter

Kommentare: Our servers are on this platform, it allows us to control resources and migrate data to other servers without stopping the service. We have some servers in this platform as a contingency if we have any failure of one of the servers we started the contingency,

Vorteile:

It allows you to virtualize both Linux and Windows, you have a portal where you can see all the virtualizations, with ESxi you can have the same virtualized server with other virtual machines as a guest operating system which can be Windows or Linux

Nachteile:

When we use the web client, the refresh times to access data are way to slow. When we try to support VMware remotely using the client, my experience is that it is slower and slower The Web client seems to have many things that are not useful

Tool to manage and control several VMs in an environment easily

Kommentare: Gives a quick look of current deployed VMs and state. Also view the resource allocation and usage.

Vorteile:

vSphere servers the purpose of managing and controlling multiple VMs in an environment setup.

Nachteile:

The layout can be more user friendly in terms of size and options to expand/collapse.

Great software to manage virtual machines

Kommentare: Is great to manage virtual environment, in our case we manage servers and is great to have an easy access and control most of the stuff.

Sometimes it got freeze and affects your activities

Using vSphere virtualization on your company

Kommentare: I have been working with vsphere for around 8 years now, and I can say, it has been a really good experience, I even got my vsphere 7 certification, it is a really good virtualization product, that offers you HA, and a really high resilience, it is useful for all type of size environments.

Vorteile:

Having several VMS using vmware technology to take advantage of less physical hardware

Nachteile:

The new licensing model implemented by Broadcom

Very efficient workload server - runs our Linux and Win OS envs easily - expensive

Vorteile:

Runs all our linux and windows workloads very efficiently. Can stand up a new environment in minutes and backup/restore functionality is on-par with using a cloud based service.

Nachteile:

The licensing model and purchasing via sales channels was difficult at first. Once we got to renewals it was smoother. The recent migration to Broadcom has increased pricing.

vSphere - a leading server virtualization platform

Kommentare: vSphere is powerful and versatile virtualiztion platform that offers robust features and high performance.

Vorteile:

Well established product within the industry. High performance with great scalability and robust security.

Nachteile:

High licensing fees after Broadcom's acquisition. Complexity and hardware dependencies also play an important role. "Support" could be better as well. Since the support is outsourced, finding a resolution to complex issue can be time consuming.

VmWare vSphere is the best

Kommentare: I use Vsphere daily to manage Virtual Environments. I like the interface, clean, intuitive and easy to use

Vorteile:

Vsphere is a must when you manage Virtual Machines / Storage and their environment. Fro the Vsphere Client Dashboard you can see all your VM, the storages and for every VM you can create/delete a new one, change the settings, do some actions such as reboot, power on/off, take (and revert) snapshots, move the VM to another node/storage, just to tell some actions you could do. Obviously you can connect to selected VM (without the need of using RDP or SSH for example). There is a lot of documentation on internet if you need information or support.

Nachteile:

it seems the price will increase a lot for Italy customers

vSphere-review

Kommentare: Very satisfied with the features it offers and robustness

Vorteile:

vSphere is a product of VMware and I have known this product in and out since ESX3.x

Nachteile:

Sometimes it might not suit for all scales of businesses

Experience with vSphere

Kommentare: It has been used for the implementation of large monitoring environments for both data centers and monitoring equipment distributed nationwide.

Vorteile:

The ease of generating and customizing virtual machines, as well as being able to know how they are working at all times.

Nachteile:

Virtual machines from old environments are very complex to migrate, since changes have to be made to the network components, disk, etc. Causing on several occasions that the virtual machine from 0 had to be generated again, in addition to getting new drivers.

VMware vSphere Review

Kommentare: Been using that software for years very easy to learn and deploy

Vorteile:

Take one host - install 20 Virtual Machines Take a few hosts - make a redundant cluster.

Nachteile:

Price is high and you pay usually by cpu count.

Great Virtualization

Kommentare: It has been a great and reliable experience using vSphere Vmware.

Vorteile:

It is easy to setup and maintain virtual machines with vSphere.

Nachteile:

It has hardware failures that need to be addressed to keep hosts running.

Kommentare: With vSphere i can control mw VM Server anytime with faster and easier

Vorteile:

The most i like form vSphere is the software is fast and easy to use

Nachteile:

There is nothing yet about vSphere that i least like

Virtualization PLATFORM

Vorteile:

Largest Advantage of Vsphere is high space available for deploying Virtual Machine. We can smoothly operate Virtual machines remotely .

Nachteile:

VSphere structure is difficult to understand for beginners.

The best virtualizing solution

Kommentare: Vmware’s vSphere is one of those products that you despite its cost you will never feel like you made a bad investment buying. It gives me so many options when it comes to remote management of all the software I have running within the local ecosystem. What was really impressive was how we were able to demo newer enterprise software within a control environment giving us a perspective that we would have never had given the old software that was present. With the recent Corvid outbreak, we were actually able to implement VPNs and grant remote access without having to invest in new hardware.

Vorteile:

Stability and scaling were very important to me when choosing a solution to my problems. One of my clients had an old ERP software connected to an equally old version of SQL server. Pressed to upgrade and incorporate newer cloud base services I had to find something that could be used in the interim but could be shaped slowly to match our needs. I chose vSphere and it worked out very well. Having something that remote workers could access, that was stable and secure meant we able to weather the storm. The ESXi is easy to access as it is web based. Now I run all our servers on VMWare with an integrated remote cloud service for backup. Just the ability to preserve data stored in the vintage ERP alone was worth the cost.

Nachteile:

While the ESXi is easy to access its can be confusing at first. Its hard to focus on what you need to see as the interface is very cluttered. Also, Hardware requirements and licensing can be taxing. While it was critical to protect our data no matter the cost the costing and implementation still felt a bit excessive. There is also huge learning curve when it comes to using some of vSphere’s functions When incorporating it into your on-site datacenter you will definitely need to train your staff or hire an expert cloud technician to monitor and manage your cloud services.

vSphere

Kommentare: Easy to use and very helpful to create a virtual machine if you have a template and it will be ready within 5 minutes. It reduces the network and disk I/O failure.

Vorteile:

With the help of vSphere VMware ESXi, we can create and run virtual machines immediately. We don't need to take care of dedicated physical hardware and maintain it by itself.

Nachteile:

I didn't face any issues yet with the vSphere ESXi component.

Virtualization? You should review vSphere!

Kommentare: You can install the program with very simple steps and start managing the system instantly. And without any compatibility issues. You can see and manage the servers whenever you want, and you can use many functions comfortably.

Vorteile:

VM vSphere , It enables the virtualization structure to be completely managed from another environment without the need for resources. Thanks to the multi-operating system support it provides, installation and configuration convenience is available. A server ip and password are enough to connect to. You can see and examine your entire structure and feel the comfort of working on the server. Moreover, you can easily provide this on any computer you have.

Nachteile:

In order to get maximum efficiency, our servers must have VM Tools. This is not a shortcoming, but installing extra software can be a problem.

Cloud magic wand

Kommentare: When comes to server virtulazation vSphere is the best hypervisor solution and so easy to manage and consolidate your servers all in one place.

Vorteile:

When comes to setting up new servers or managing multi servers then vSphere is the magic wand to that time consuming process. You don't have to deal with finding space on a server rack or running around with cables doing network configuration. What I love the most is it's ability to have a server up and running within few minutes and also not worry which environment it will be running on. Having to run a lot of virtual servers in the cloud also reduce energy consumption of a datacenter and in case of power outage its easy to have everything back online even with a small generator or ups system.

Nachteile:

As technology is constantly moving so is the vSphere and then comes the dilemma that you cant click an upgrade button and have everything updated and without losing your configuration. Also when comes to physical hardware failure, you have greater chance of losing all your sever since everything will be one container so you will also need to have some form or redundancy or backup servers or mirror server which then sort of defeats the whole point of having less hardware requirements.

Vmware vSphere is still our #1 Virtualization Software of choice

Kommentare: This is our go to choice of virtualization software. I think that is probably more a case of being "used to it" than its functionality over Hyper V. The tides are changing, and Vmware is going to have to keep up with the pricing and support that Microsoft offers.

Vorteile:

Excellent application support. Scalability Cost of licensing.

Nachteile:

Terrible support for licensing and licensing renewals in our region.

Data center virtualization from the industry leader

Kommentare: We are 90+ percent virtualized on vSphere, and like many others, it is a game changer and huge money saver. With vSphere using vCenter, we manage our entire virtualized enterprise in a single pane of glass. We use it to provision compute and storage resources, monitor performance, get alerts, and manage VM DR.

Vorteile:

vSphere lets us virtualize nearly any Windows and Linux operating system we want, with a few exceptions such as AIX and Solaris, and manage virtualized resources across our enterprise spanning multiple data centers. It has multiple plugins for the storage we use (Dell EMC VxFlex, VMAX, etc). It is very widely adopted, so help is easy to find on the web.

Nachteile:

I don't have any significant complaint about the software itself, but VMWare support isn't as good as it should be, especially given its size. Since VMWare is integrated with lots of different OS's and storage, there seems to be a lot of finger pointing when we engage support, and it's hard to finally get to a competent support engineer. I will concede that when we call support, it is nearly always a complex issue.

The Dream Environment for Managing your Virtual Network

Kommentare: Prior to transferring to my current school, my previous college used vSphere to help prep its team for the Pacific Rim Collegiate Cybersecurity Defense Competition (PRCCDC), and using it in that environment really demonstrates the power of the tool for virtualization of entire networks. Absolutely stunning tool in terms of features.

Vorteile:

VMware products in general are known for being the best of the best when it comes to virtualization, and vSphere is no exception. The benefits of an easy to manage virtual network are numerous, you save on space, energy, and overall costs. vSphere definitely focuses on ease of management; need to patch all your servers? Takes a fraction of the time that SSHing into each one individually would. Need to shut everything down, or boot everything up? The processes are streamlined for you. Want to deploy a new one? The process, if you don't want to clone an existing one, takes minutes.

Nachteile:

It has a very steep learning curve, mostly due to the learning curve involved in virtualization itself. You must be very experienced in virtualization in order to successfully use vSphere to its full potential... Or, at all, potentially. If you can't setup a virtual server and hit it from outside your network using VMware Workstation, you won't be able to use vSphere successfully.

Redundant Personal Business Cloud with less Overhead

Kommentare: Overall the experience has been positive and we can't imagine going back to the days of physical servers for each of our server resources. The scale ability, portability, and redundancy are simply unmatched.

Vorteile:

When it comes to servers, hardware is expensive and often not completely utilized. With VMware vSphere, we were able to virtualize our entire development and production environment paired with three medium sized servers. This gave us scalability we never had. Our servers are pooled and share the pool resources allowing us to expand our environment to up to 35 servers running across the three servers. With vSphere we are able to have failover in the event one of the servers go down utilizing the vmotion feature without a single virtual server being interrupted. It allows us to do 90% more maintenance without a single disruption.

Nachteile:

The depth of knowledge to use the advanced features and scripting is intense. There are hundreds of individual features and settings that are very difficult to understand without the proper knowledge or training. Once you figure it out you won't go back.

I can say "It is a Great tool for Virtualization"

Vorteile:

VMware vSphere is a simple tool with advanced features for virtualization. I have used this tool for my studies, research works, and security purposes. It provides a great connection between the base operating system and the virtual machine and the configurations are also easy. Using this tool, I was able to run several virtual machines at once and it was very important for my research work. Actually, I need to say that without having VMware vSphere I could not make it. Integrating with the remote clouds also an advanced feature which is provided. I was able to make my OS images fast and effectively thanks to vSphere. As I mentioned before I use VMware for testing or do something which can be harmful to our base operating system. It can protect our OS from being corrupted. I still use this software and I love it.

Nachteile:

The only thing that I distract from vSphere is when I need to run several VMs at once my machine is getting very slow or stuck. Sometimes virtual machines can be corrupted. Hence we need to keep backups always. Except from these things, I love it.

VMWare vSphere - Managing your Virtual Environment One Click at a Time

Kommentare: VMWare vSphere has improved quite a lot in the last few versions, the latest version I am on right now (7.5) the HTML5 version of the web interface works very well and while it's missing features of the slow, Flash based web interface it can do everything I need day to day and does it quickly and fairly painlessly.

Vorteile:

I use this software a dozen times a day, and I think my favorite thing is that it's very easy to create snapshots and roll back to them if I break something. We have very little downtime thanks to snapshots.

Nachteile:

It's very complex to update. I cringe every time a support ticket leads to me having to update the environment. It's just a complex beast, requiring several different updates/files to be installed in a specific sequence, some of which can cause down time.
