Umfangreiches Tool

Vorteile:

Inbesondere die verschiedenen Toolboxen zur Geoverarbeitung sind sehr stark. Mit ArcGis lassen sich viele Operationen leichter als z.B. mit der freien Software QGis ausführen und auch die Unterstützung durch Foren und das Wiki sind gut.

Nachteile:

Leider ist die Software nicht besonders nutzerfreundlich, es ist eine lange Einarbeitung notwendig. Auch als erfahrener Nutzer entdeckt man immer wieder Funktionalitäten, von denen man nicht wusste, dass es sie gibt, und muss öfters in Foren oder bei Esri nachschlagen, wie einzelne Funktionen anzuwenden sind.

Great possibilities in the ArcGIS program

Kommentare: When you see the results of your work after completion, you will realize that it was worth every minute you worked on it

Vorteile:

What I really liked most about this program is its great ability to carry out tremendous tasks in a completely professional manner, which makes you literally dispense with other programs.

Nachteile:

What bothers me most about it is that it requires specific specifications in order for it to work perfectly, but it must be said that it works on moderately efficient devices, and it sometimes has some problems while working, which can lead to the program stopping on its own and restarting it again.

It is packed with features, such as mapping, analysis, data visualization, and much more. It is also very easy to use and is perfect for both experienced GIS professionals and newcomers alike.

Nachteile:

However, ArcGIS can be quite expensive, and its steep learning curve may discourage some users. Additionally, its user interface can be quite complex and unintuitive at times.

I use ArcMap daily, but almost always as a part of my overall editing flow.

Kommentare: It makes the start of very pretty maps, sometimes. I almost always generate base layers here, and then export them into illustrator/photoshop to do actual final renders.

Vorteile:

The styling guides are better than any other options out there - once you can learn to navigate the byzantine menus. I've used QGIS, Globalmapper, AutoCad, and Microstation, and maps just look better in ArcMap than in any others -it's made for creating display mapping. I know that there are other programmatic things you can do, but for my workflow, I use it almost exclusively for building maps for display.

Nachteile:

The menus are silly that you have to go that far down a rabbit hole, processing is a nightmare (especially with messy geometry), and I used to (until I quit trying altogether) find myself trying a processing task in ArcMap, watching it fail, and then trying it again in GlobalMapper/QGIS and it would do fine. Processing is a very weak point in ArcMap, at least from my perspective.

Supports windows only. If the desktop platform made available to Linux OS users it can be more reachable to world.

ArcGIS Suite - Extremely Powerful

Kommentare: Our field crews and engineering staff couldn't function without it. Out utilities assets with all of their attributes are on our digital maps. On it we document structures attributes, condition over time, maintenance schedules, and even hyperlink photo and video inspections to each asset. Invaluable information no further away than a click of a button, no matter where in our world that you are!

Vorteile:

Extremely powerful software with a tool for just about anything you could think of to do with geographic data. "Smart Maps". Objects given geographic location and attributes of any kind that you want running in the background.

Nachteile:

ELA agreement is extremely reasonable but for a private individual it could be cost prohibitive. I believe they are working on a different license model for home users but would have to check on it.

The Function and Facilty Tools of Arcgis

And also these software has allowed me to achieve my degree in bachelor of mining engineering.Such help like layouting map, analysis out put contour and another geospatial analysis.

too costly. the user interface is bit slow.need good configration system for good working condition.

ArcGIS is the best GIS software on the market

Ease of use, the quality of product and the quality of the output.

Nachteile:

It does take some time to learn how to use some of the specialized editing tools but if you need to make a quick map, it’s super easy.

had done project in excel but the map I needed was not very accurate, had to redo in arcGIS, had never used before. had a colleague assist since I had to learn it in a few days

user interface isnt very intuitive for someone who has never used a program like this before

Useful tool for geospatial mapping and analysis

Vorteile:

UI / UX is generally intuitive and well-organised which is helpful especially for beginners / infrequent end-users who do not use ArcGIS on a daily basis.Tools / mapping capabilities were useful in helping to visualise otherwise complex and difficult to understand datasets

Nachteile:

At times the interface was laggy, and it is difficult to do mass edits to visual elements. E.g. duplicating layers and moving layers around takes a long time

Leader of the Pack

Kommentare: I've regularly used ArcGIS since it was ArcView 3.1, for about 20 years I guess.

Vorteile:

ArcGIS leads the pack with functional tools like ArcMap, one of its most popular in spatial analysis. The tool-pack within ArcMAP allows users to convert layers to new formats, analyze data using a several geoprocessing tools, merge layers together and truly begin understanding landscape patterns. It has also been used to help forecast or predict after filtering layers or attributes within a layer to learn a unique set of characteristics that predict occurrence of a species or phenomenon, such as bank erosion. With the software, the user can subscribe to ESRI news to learn more about the broad applications of the product. And because it is so widely known, users can easily find tutorials and classes to learn the product. Recently I sought help from customer support and I will say, they are relentless at helping to diagnose the problem.

Nachteile:

There are a lot of competitors for ArcGIS, though none seem to do everything that ArcGIS does. Rather than spending time waiting for the software to open, recognize our network license, and load the base maps, I can usually find an answer to my question using Google Earth or something similar. The high level of functionality comes at a cost. In addition to the memory hungry aspects of ESRI, the user interface can be a little intimidating. There are many tools and ways to layout the interface. Sometimes it can be confusing to know where the tools are and how to access them. While the interface is customizable in some ways, the geoprocessing tools cannot be added to the interface (or I haven't figured out how) and toolbars need to be loaded each time. For example, when I'm creating a shape file, I have to continuously ask the software to open the window for creating features. I'm sure this is great for some people who don't like machine learning or having their computer assume too much of their needs. But for me, I love that and would really like to see some of these customizable elements become more user friendly. Not only would that make things a bit more efficient on my end, but it might also make the experience less daunting or confusing.

My go to for anything spatial

Kommentare: It’s been great. I once compared the functionality of ArcGIS to QGIS in a certain talks I had - ArcGIS produced a more comprehensive outcome. I always choose ArcGIS in my research.

Vorteile:

ArcGIS is one of the most frequently used softwares for GIS. Given this, it means that most people trained in GIS are able to use the software but communicate about its functions too. Arc has created a network of GIS users which in some regard, has formed its own language. I like this because when speaking to other users, they understand me and my actions on the software. I like the endless capabilities that Arc offers. Using the software is highly beneificial to people like myself who are involved in natural science research. It’s a tool that never fails to produce some sort of value - even if it is only a map. I appreciate the product development and like that it can utilize multiple spatial datasets in a user friendly framework.

Nachteile:

Learning how to use ArcGIS definitely takes its time. It’s endless capabilities make it somewhat complex and so the user has to know exactly what they are looking to do in Arc in order to achieve it. I know too many people who have no idea where to start with Arc it are apprehensive to use it because of its technicality. I guess this is not a bad thing should one be trained in the software, but it’s defintwly not user friendly to the layman. Other esri products are more suited and easier for laymen - such esri online products. In my experience, I have had ArcMap freeze or shut down numerous times. These bugs seem to still get through and it is the worst feeling when one loses their progress on a project. I also find the tools somewhat tedious at times and it can be frustrating to have to search the help or esri online panels for solutions. However, in most cases, these problems get solved because their is readily available information on each tool.

Online Map User

Kommentare: ArcGIS is really the only product that competes well in the outdoor map market for large amounts of data. There are some improvements we would like to see, but for a company that large, this might be unreasonable. You kind of get what you get, since they are the only show in town.

Vorteile:

ESRI is the big dog when it comes to digital maps. We use these a lot to map our facilities and specifically our underground utilities. This is the best product on the market. The only competitor might be AutoDesk, but even that doesn't compete. It is a very functional product and can contain all the information we need.

Nachteile:

Sometimes when you load some of the basemap images that software can really slow down. Also the zoom function for the online database interaction can be a little glitchy at times. A lot of these can be fixed by changing some of the detail settings, but that can take some digging to find. The company is so big, that if you have a question; you are not likely to get ahold of anyone. You are better off to look up videos on youtube or try posting questions on forums.

Tool for decision makers

Expensive, But Extremely Useful

Kommentare: I am able to export database information from my other oil and gas lease tracking software, manipulate that data, and create informative maps so that the decision-makers have an easier job. It really does make life easier for everyone.

Vorteile:

Easy and fairly quick to make a map. It's also great at fine-tuning details in your maps. I've never found it necessary to use a third-party software to make a map that looks professional. Of course, GIS is not only about making maps. It's also about manipulating the data behind the maps. ArcGIS is very good, and gives you most of the tools that you need to get the job done.

Nachteile:

The software is expensive, maybe prohibitively expensive for a small company. When the company decides to overhaul the software, it almost seems to ignore current users by completely redoing everything, including current workflows. ESRI is currently trying to get users to migrate to ArcGIS Pro, which is very different from the current full-featured software, ArcMap.

ArcGIS the best

Kommentare: ArcGIS can use to setup boundaries for rainfall catchments. So that it helps to run rainfall-runoff models and predict whether flood can occur or not. So that, ArcGIS plays a major role as a supporting software for hydrological modeling softwares like HEC-HMS & Mike 11.

Vorteile:

ArcGIS is one of the best software that most civil engineers used atleast once in their life. It can easily download from internet. ArcGIS having user friendly interface wich beginner also easily handle the software too. Best thing about it is we can setup catchment boundaries of any specific area by easily using Digital Elevation Map(DEM). Using this we can easily get information about ground elevation, soil type of the area and much more information about the specific area that we concern about.

Nachteile:

ArcGIS uses some amount of storage usage within the computer. Also it use some memory in the computer too. Also to setup boundaries, you must aware about the software quiet extent.

Sophisticated map-making

Kommentare: I have very specific features that I need to show in a map. With ArcGis I am able to customize my maps as much as I like.

Vorteile:

Easily imports my .csv data or gis shapefiles. Offers a variety of basemaps including Open Street Map and Natl. Geographic. You don't have to depend on Google maps. Converts to a file that can be read and worked on in Adobe Illustrator. Necessary for tweaking maps. Doesn't seem too demanding on resourses. Customer service has been great. One fellow took nearly an hour with me on the phone getting me up to speed.

Nachteile:

Steep learning curve. Confusing credit system. Essentially, you start out with 500 credits in my case. Every time you make an inquiry of their database, you get dinged. I used one of the ArcGis tutorials and saw my credit usage go through the roof. Called cust. service and they explained that was the issue. When I make a route, changing the type of line is a pain and there may not be a solution. You will learn that there are lots of hidden tools under " ... " on most menu choices.

Geographic information system that allows me to spatialize all the information you need.

Vorteile:

Is the program of daily use to perform the spatialization of the different variables with which I work daily, allows me to vectorize, generate base and thematic maps, associate databases with different vector elements either points, polygons or lines. Generate soil profiles, determination of topography. Account as a wide range of tools that facilitate the work of location, location and geographical elements. The outputs can be digital or paper.

Nachteile:

It requires constant updating of the program because otherwise some tools start to generate conflict. It is a program with high costs. New users must go through training processes since understanding the program is not so simple, if you have never had interaction with them.

Not just a simple tool

Kommentare: Upon gaining a good knowledge of the software, the ability to transform data into information that is usable and intelligent makes ArcGIS not just a tool but a tool that transforms information in new ways and illustrates such information in a logical and intelligent manner.

Vorteile:

Illustrates geographical data on a platform that not only provides a simple map but also allows for the creation of information in a dynamic way for all sorts of purposes. Multiple sources of information can be utilised to create meaningful information for a specific outcome. It is a tool that creates new tools to expand data into information that can be manipulated and transformed continuously.

Nachteile:

It can be expensive, however, the functionality of the software and its use within the company does mitigate the costs as to reasonably priced. Otherwise, not much to complain about as it is a software that is above the rest.

Excellent Product - ArcGIS Enterprise

Kommentare: We wanted to use ArcGIS Enterprise because we recently purchased an asset management software and wanted to be able to use the work order system in the field and since we are already an enterprise client we wanted to leverage it to the fullest.

Vorteile:

We really like being able to have our Enterprise Portal look and act like ArcGIS Online. Once we got the environment set up, working in it was almost the same as ArcGIS Online.

Nachteile:

They have an out of the box setup for one machine. I almost wish we would have gone that route, but we wanted to future proof it and put the different modules on different servers. That made setup a little more difficult.

The most complete GIS tool

Vorteile:

ArcGIS by Esri has a great reputation and experience in the GIS software market, for which it has great competitiveness to position itself as the main option for computerized geographic analysis. Impeccable reporting, advanced statistical tools and effective handling of large amounts of vector or raster data make it simply the best.

Nachteile:

Personally, I believe that the cost and high hardware requirements of ArcGIS limit individual entrepreneurs willing to give their start in a second level analysis. However, it is important to highlight that for these cases there are several free access softwares with powerful analysis tools that, despite not having the complete and integrated analysis of ArcGIS, can satisfy certain advanced needs. On the other hand, investing in this software represents a strength to be on the tip of the iceberg, since the response time and the depth of the analysis can be much more favorable for the client.

Simply the best of its kind!

It provides an extensive possibility of resources for the spatial analysis of data. With this tool you can create, consult and analyze in a very easy way your data in the territory, combining layers easy and fast and obtain new information from that data. Amazing compatibility with most used formats and the best for analyse interpolation of data values in the space

Nachteile:

Maybe the license, ArcGIS forces you to connect to a license to perform certain geoprocessing operations. Therefore, although it has a good geoprocessing framework, solid and broad, its license level determines which tools can be used in this tool

ArcGIS: My old trusted friend

GIS User

Kommentare: Customer service is good although not always quick.

Vorteile:

Functionality is the thing I look for most while using a GIS software and ESRI's ArcGIS has that hands down. No where else will you find such a user friendly software to edit maintain and analyze spatial data. I've been in the field for over 6 years and have exclusively used ESRI products. Yes, I've also always worked at places that can afford the hefty license fee - however in my opinion it's worth every penny for the analysis the software can perform.

Nachteile:

Cost is quite expensive and many smaller government and non professionals cannot afford it. On the plus side they have a great student rate option!
