Take off with the edge

Kommentare: Seemless, easy to use, accurate take-offs without the bulk and effort required from other similar products.

Vorteile:

Estimating is made super simple. The Edge is very intuitive, and easy to modify. Meaning we can modify our databases to match our current costs and then seamlessly estimate job costs. The learning curve for the edge is much less than other similar products. Our estimators were able to immediately hit the ground running with take offs.

Nachteile:

Occasionally we've encountered crashes and lost estimates. These are rare in our current version, but they do still occasionally happen.

Changing The way Estimating Is Done

Kommentare: my overall experience with The Edge has been great. i give this software a 9/10

Vorteile:

The ease of using the software and finding everything you need is the most valuable part in my opinion.

Nachteile:

The difficulty of modifying specific conditions

There are better programs out there

Kommentare: Not much. I can print out reports for the field, but they just throw them to the side.

Vorteile:

Takeoffs are fairly simple once you get past the semi-cumbersome training. I like the ease of adjusting labor rates, and that once conditions are built they remain.

Nachteile:

Editing the database is an awful task, and even when you think you have a handle on it....you don't. Formulas are damn near impossible to read unless you have a print out of what each piece of a formula means. In fairness, it is built into the program, but making one from scratch on your own is not worth the time it would take to learn it all. Setting up reports to reflect exactly what you want is extremely difficult. If you did it every single day and learned all of the ins and outs of how to set reports up that's one thing, but this is one of the most unfriendly aspects of the Edge. There are conditions that are never used and are unable to be deleted (hard to count how many times I've selected the wrong conditions), not everything saves in the database (FRP setup), and let's not forget that the amount of updates that there have been; more than Apple, and that's saying something! I would be more apt to continue using a program like this in the future with some major overhauls on some areas, specifically ACT takeoffs; I can't click and drag for a square footage without it crashing the system. I have brought this to the attention of the developers/programmers and it is still not fixed. Also, is there a 3D rendering coming?

Edge Benefits

Kommentare: Edge has helped me bid jobs easier, and understand roofing more in a whole.

Vorteile:

It allows me to break out each line item for labor, instead of putting it as one lump some.

Nachteile:

Still learning how to use change orders. Wish it worked better for my system.

Easy to use, and give accurate estimates

Kommentare: It is easy to use if you do a lot of estimates. By using this program we no longer skip vital materials or labor in our estimates.

Vorteile:

Ease of use, ability to customize jobs, no longer have to print blueprints. They have improved it so you can just change prices as needed.

Nachteile:

It can get very involved if you don't use it on a regular basis. However there are tutorials on their website to help you through the process, and support is always there to help.

The EDGE Review

Kommentare: Using The EDGE has been beneficial to my estimates and time management.

I enjoy the UI and ease of use of the software.

I dislike how some functions aren't explained or outlines clearly.

Edge is Awesome

Vorteile:

Taking off a projects is super fast. simple to use once set up

learning curve is steep. training and watching videos is mandatory

Great for beginners

Vorteile:

I like how it is an all in one software. I was relatively new to construction and it allowed e to be very productive with limited knowledge.

Nachteile:

I was missing simple commands, such as delete buttons and ability to pan. Easy to forget how to use features that you don't use often because of the complicated commands involved.

The software is a little glitchy with PDF's

Not just for estimating!

Kommentare: Overall The Edge has helped us bid projects faster and more accurately, as well as collaborate on estimates from multiple locations.

Vorteile:

The reports we're able to generate to assist our operations team with the handover process after a project is awarded have been outstanding. The accuracy of our estimating has improved dramatically since getting everyone on board with the Edge.

Nachteile:

Can be cumbersome to operate at first. Not a really clear help section or glossary of terms.

EDGE Review - Dane Lantry

Kommentare: Overall very exceptional program. There are a few items i wish could be implemented in an upcoming update: - Drawing Maneuverability - I have used AutoCAD extensively and the zooming/panning operation with the mouse is much better/easier than what the EDGE currently offers. The zoom function is achieved by rolling the wheel of the mouse and the panning is achieved by holding down the wheel while moving the mouse. Currently the EDGE zooming is much slower and hard to control either with the keyboard (ctrl++/-) or the zoom window in the top right corner. Panning is not very user friendly whether the window in the corner or the keyboard arrows are used. - Customizing Reports - the reports function of the EDGE is a very useful tool. However, sometimes i need it to spit other information out and this is not a very easy task to modify. - Excel - exporting to excel is a nice function but i have been told that importing from excel is impossible. when entering prices in the Prices screen it isn't possible to pull down a value that is the same for multiple items. This repetitive process takes time and leaves room for potentially dangerous errors.

The best applications to help make appropriate assessments for new bids

Kommentare: It has increased our ability to better estimate the value of new projects, which has helped us obtain several new projects in the past period.

Vorteile:

EDGE is a very advanced app with great capabilities. It makes estimating process for new bids or contracts and any additional work required done with ease. Using EDGE, it will be easy to ensure that you get accurate quotes, in addition to its ability to evaluate the actual quantities available to the company and take these quantities into account when making any new pricing operations.

Nachteile:

There is nothing worth mentioning, it may seem a bit complicated for the beginners, the user just needs some training to get acquainted with all the tools and tasks that can be performed using it.

Estimating

Kommentare: I really enjoy using the edge for my fireproofing take-offs. The simple design of the user interface makes it quite easy to use, and their technical department is very responsive to questions and dealing with the back-of-house operations if changes with-in the program need to be done. This program allows me to greatly increase my production as an estimator in both the quantity and quality of my estimates for my company. With the ability to upload drawings directly into program, I have gone paperless in my estimates, saving my company money in the long run by not having to order or print out drawings anymore. The Edge is a great tool for us and highly recommended.

Vorteile:

Ease of Use. Good Technical support.

Nachteile:

Fireproofing Shop Drawings as printed out directly from the Edge are a bit messy. I need to use a PDF editor to edit and clean them up. Should have the ability to write notes directly on the take off pages that can be included in the printed out shop drawings

The Only Estimating Software

Kommentare: Best construction estimating software on the market.

Vorteile:

I've been using the Edge Estimating Software, on and off, since 2012. I own another take-off software that is a great tool for measuring, but doesn't have the integrated condition builder and pricing features. Scanning through some of the other reviews here, let me assure you, that the negative reviews are from those who don't have the correct operating system to run Edge functions or the user just doesn't understand how to use the system. Construction take-off's are only as easy as your understanding of the part and pieces (conditions) required for an accurate take-off. The Edge Estimating System is the only software I would suggest for on-screen take-offs with the ability to hand-enter if you're so inclined. I prefer on-screen as there is 0 chance of losing a condition in transfer.

Nachteile:

You can't load large pdf's at one time. Can't view more than one screen at a time (would be nice to be able to open a detail page and measure parts while building the condition). A little pricey.

few minor things that aren't very great for functionality

Kommentare: Oftentimes tech support is figuring out, or not figuring out, the issues real time that I have instead of having solutions. I wish you could have two jobs running simultaneously to compare trends, this makes it tough to compare without screenshotting one job then comparing. (total hassle and time consuming) in a recap screen it seems like you would want as much information as possible... the markup, or $/mday is in a sub field, but not on the main screen and it doesn't show up if you print a recap. in addition, if you print a recap, you can view SQS/mday... this doesn't show up on the recap screen until you print it... these are two very key items that I use to trend my pricing, and both of them are not readily available for viewing without additional keystrokes.

My Edge Review

Kommentare: I've been using the Edge ever since version 7 back in the summer of 2000, and here am I now on version 12 in 2019 so almost 20 years and I wouldn't want to use anything else to do my estimates.

Vorteile:

All in one take-off and estimating program that has the ability to integrate with your accounting software to have precise job costing. Cloud based so little to no digital footprint has to be stored on someones computer and you can access your project anywhere with an internet connection.

Nachteile:

The reporting feature they allow you to use to manipulate their default reports is extremely time consuming and should be much more simple.

Good Estimating Software

Kommentare: EDGE provides great information that would otherwise take a lot of time to figure out manually. There are features (UNDO BUTTON!) that would be nice, but overall the user interface and available reports are great.

Vorteile:

Easy to learn user interface. Provides usable reports. Easier and more thorough than estimating by hand.

Nachteile:

No undo button. Some of the more intricate features are difficult to learn how to perform.

Good overall, need a few more features

Kommentare: I am performing metal stud framing & gypsum board takeoffs to produce bids. Overall, I like the program. The previous company was transitioning to the newer version of Edge. It seemed quite different, so I never made the transition. We are currently using an older version at my current company.

Vorteile:

I like that the takeoff and pricing functions are all in one program. It is easy to modify prices and production rates. Performing the takeoff is smooth.

Nachteile:

Some basic functions should be added: 1. CTRL+Z to undo last operation. 2. Be able to cut (or copy) and paste multiple conditions from one page to the next. 3. Autofill/suggest when typing in a group code.

Longtime User

Kommentare: The Edge saves me so much time in preparing estimates. Time in the office is limited. Using the Edge lets me make the most of that time.

Vorteile:

I've been an Edge customer since the late 80's when the program was DOS based. We bought then for the same reason I use it today. It's fast and accurate. I can change systems and calculate numerous alternates with ease in in short order.

Nachteile:

That's really hard because there's very little that I don't like. If I had to give an answer it would be that the tapered insulation designer was an add on instead of being part of the program.

Great software, very flexible!

Vorteile:

The EDGE is very flexible. I can start out with one condition and manipulate it into almost any other condition I need quickly (change out paint types, labor rates, etc.). I also like that I can look at and change all production rates at the same time on the same screen.

Nachteile:

I don't like the navigation, there is too much reliance on the mouse and the keyboard is underutilized. I would like to be able to zoom in and out of drawings with the clickwheel on the mouse.

Kommentare: Over my career that has spanned over 23 years. I have taken projects off from the old school method by hand. To utilizing a number of other estimating programs that are out on the market. The EDGE system is by far the most comprehensive all in one system that is a must have for any Fireproofing company. From saving time in doing take off's to the daunting submital process. Most would agree that this is the Holy Grail of the Fireproofing world!

Vorteile:

Once configured to meet your in house requirements with cost coding and other basic formatting. This is by far the best system i have ever used.

Nachteile:

would give it a 10 if not for the occasional 5 second time to back up...

Version 12 verses Version 10

Vorteile:

Technical support is the best thing about version 12

Nachteile:

Version 12 made so many unnecessary changes. It's a fight to navigate. I'm still trying to use version 10 short cuts but they don't work any more. The number on the key board (far right) don't work you have to use the number line at the top of the key board - just something to get use to.

Cuts estimating time in half.

Kommentare: I have been using the Edge estimating for about 3 years now and I can't imagine life without it. The Edge Estimating is so important to me that when I recently switched companies and the new company didn't have the Edge the first thing I did was call Ryan Bogart in sales and purchased a license out of my own pocket. The Edge allows me to bid each job more comfortable because of the great database and tools. I strongly believe that my success in estimating is in a large part due to the great software programs like the Edge.
The Edge Estimating is always there to help answer any questions I have and that includes both the sales and technical guys. Everyone I have been in contact with at the Edge has been absolutely great and I absolutely recommend their software to anyone.

Vorteile:

The Database and the tools are great.

Nachteile:

The software can be a little complicated at first but the technical team is always a phone call away and they are great with helping.

Working with the new Edge Estimating Software

Kommentare: The Edge used to be an excellent estimating program with easy to use features. The new version is the opposite of what an estimator is looking for in an estimating program.

Vorteile:

The edge used to be a great estimating tool for any estimator. The new version departed from that idea, that is bad!

Nachteile:

Cumbersome. Extremely slow I can estimate a whole job by the time the conditions load and specially the drawings. it took a whole minute and half to lad six pages. Too may clicks to set up a job. Drawing feature is still in the development arena.
