Vorteile:

I think this particular software is a good value for the money, it does have glitches and there are things that I have not received a satisfactory answer for, but overall, it is a good program.

Nachteile:

Initially, it was difficult to use. Once the team made some much needed updates and I was able to learn the new interface, I actually prefer valant.io to the other system.

Great Move to a new EHR

Kommentare: The reports are incredible. It also allows my staff to complete comprehensive notes in minutes rather than hours.

Vorteile:

The customer service is incredible. The program is intuitive and able to handle multiple functions. With the onboarding staff you can customize the options to fit your practice needs.

Large learning curve but completely worth it.

Expensive for solo practices

Kommentare: Customer service was slow to respond and/or didn't respond at all. It takes some getting used to. Valant was a functional ERA but it was too "much" for me being a solo provider which resulted in it being too expensive.

Vorteile:

Billing was easy. It auto-posts ERA. They offer the ability to customize note templates. Valant offers reminders either through text or email.

Nachteile:

For a solo practice it was expensive and offered a lot of features a solo provider doesn't need. The treatment plan tool wasn't as smooth as I thought it would be. It took a lot of time to setup and complete the training before using. The cost of Valant is separate from the cost of using a clearing house.

I really appreciate how Valant streamlines my workflow as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. What I liked least about the Valant EHR Suite is that while the system is generally efficient, there are occasional challenges with customization options. Sometimes, I find that the templates and forms are not as flexible as I would like, which can make it difficult to tailor them to the specific needs of my practice. Additionally, the system can occasionally feel a bit sluggish when navigating through more complex patient records or during peak usage times. While these issues don't overshadow the overall benefits, they do present areas where the system could improve.

Kommentare: Overall, I had a horrible experience with Valant. I don’t think it could have gone any worse. Within 90 days of launch, I was aggressively looking for a new option. This means that my providers and clients had to change platforms again, after just changing over to Valant. The software is just so terrible and does not work the way it should. I don’t trust this company or anything they say. Please, stay away.

Vorteile:

There is really nothing positive about Valant. It is a horrible software that rarely works correctly. They also like to lock users into a contract so that they cannot cancel, and they also like to hold patient health information/ PHI hostage so that it cannot be downloaded and moved to an EHR that actually works. Valant promises all kinds of things including telehealth, simple note taking, treatment planning, etc. However, in actuality, the platform looks like it was built in 1985, and never updated. Notes are not templated in a way that makes sense. If you need help, don’t bother calling their helpdesk- they are useless. Please save your time, money, and headache and find a software solution that actually works.

Nachteile:

There is no assistance in data transfer to Valant, despite the outrageous price tag. They use intimidation and gross business tactics to try to lock you into a contract so that you are stuck paying for their awful service. For my practice of 80, this software simply does not have the capacity to work and run effectively for a practice this size. Perhaps it would work in solo practice, but certainly not for a group of any kind. The templates are awful and archaic, telehealth rarely works, new patient portal set up is an administrative nightmare (clients can request an appointment, but aren’t able to create a portal. What sense does that make), and clients are rarely able to pay their invoices. Valant sucks up cash and spits out so many problems. I would never recommend this software to anyone.

Kommentare: Valant has been glitchy since we started using it as a practice. Granted, it has improved over the course of the past year, but I would have preferred that the glitches have been worked through ahead of our use of it instead of our practice being "the guinea pig" for it. Customer support has been pretty good about responding to tickets and offering assistance, but it is still frustrating when the response that I get is the tech team hasn't been able to duplicate the issue and to reach back out when it happens again.

Vorteile:

Schedule building is easy and looking into client charts is easy.

Nachteile:

There are too many tabs in the therapy progress notes that don't apply to therapists using the platform. The intake document is too long and clients don't want to complete it, which means therapists are going into intakes with no client history, no understanding about why the client is coming for therapy, and having to gather all of that information in one hour. I dislike that Valant automatically takes you to a different screen when you click from, say Dashboard to Scheduler, instead of just opening a new window. The treatment plan tool is too involved and most therapists on my team don't want to use it.

Unduly burdensome, lacking need documentation

Vorteile:

Easy for revenue management.

Nachteile:

The clinical forms are unwieldy, lack logical flow and structure of information and the treatment plan goals and objectives do not pull into the progress notes. It is nearly impossible to figure out documenting a telephone call. There is no termination/discharge note. To add information to sections of notes, you must click between tabs. Overall for clinical documentation, it is subpar. It does not meet the requirements of my state's department of human services guidelines.

Kommentare: I have had a very good overall experience. I would like my dashboard to show all my custom information. Such a button for accessing my personal Treatment plan information. And a quick macro button on dashboard to show my entire case load.

Vorteile:

The ability to change dates and flexibility to move between tabs. Also, the copy pasting functions.

Nachteile:

When treatment plans are closed and by another provider and no way to unlock and complete a step to be able to open new plan. I have a case still like this.

Expensive and outdated but with great customer support

Kommentare: n summary, high price, tired appearance and clunky performance. For a solo, cash only practice, I would suggest Simple Practice is a cheaper and comparable (often better) alternative. For prescribers - sign up for an independent e prescribing account, 600-800 per year depending on the platform. If you have a group practice and are looking to track insurance integration, this is probably Valant’s strength but if this is your primary aim, there are better alternatives on the market. Charging fees for services which are “Standard” on other platforms adds to the bloated cost. That being said, the customer service was excellent. My questions were answered by email and phone relatively quickly and I cannot thank them enough.

Vorteile:

- Calendar - scheduling/billing/notes accessed all from one screen. - Integrated CC processing. Third party processor (Elavon) provides details statements for easy bookkeeping. -Easy to submit insurance claims (albeit only after a protracted setup process with Change Healthcare) - Insurance ERA integration (not perfect - for example UHC has many subsidiaries and it requires registering each once with Change Healthcare for the ERAs to appear in Valant. This is a hugely time consuming process and I never managed to get all my payers correctly registered.) - Reliable. Minimal downtime. Support is very accessible. - Pt statements are simple and clear and superbills have been consistently accepted by payors without any issue - Able to integrate multiple providers and multiple locations. Effective for tracking insurance reimbursement from multiple payers across multiple locations. This is Valet’s key strength.

Nachteile:

- Looks and handles like Windows Vista. Clunky and outdated. Functions are often behind multiple drop-down menus and not always intuitively bundled together.. However, it functions well enough once learnt. - Significant learning curve, particularly in understanding the billing/accounting aspects. Educational videos are detailed but incredibly dry and time consuming to work through - Integrated CC processor is expensive! An additional $2-3 per visit billed quickly adds up and is a high price to pay for convenience. - No personalization of notes/documents beyond the provided templates, many of which are outdated and redundant. There is the option to add a blank tab and use a third party software like text expander to add in templates that way. - Esignitaure for documents is an additional fee. This quickly became prohibitively expensive. I returned to using third party options such as DocuSign and Adobe Sign, both of which were cheaper. Note that this function is free with Simple Practice which is over 60% cheaper! - Note writer is tabbed, awkward and clunky. Unable to scroll through the note as a whole. Option to add Macro is outdated. I used TextExpander as it was faster, despite additional expense - The patient portal is unreliable. I had patients complain about being redirected to a portal for another practice, for example. This raised other concerns about data security and HIPAA. - Note writing tool is difficult to customize and cumbersome to operate. Notes are difficult to customize and the available options are often outdated and include multiple redundant options. - Templates were clunky and awkward to customize. The tabbed interface is cumbersome and outdated. The templates are very click heavy with a lot of redundant information and the notes generated are often bloated which makes reviewing far more labor intensive and time consuming than it needs to be. The notes are generated only as pdf files which makes searching through past documents a painful process of downloading each note in turn or downloading the whole lot, every time you need to check the plan form the last visit or the labs from two visits ago… - “Integrated” prescribing is actually a link-out to Rcopia. Cannot navigate back and forth between prescribing window and pt notes. Be aware that a standalone DrFirst account costs approximately $650 per year and the standalone experience is identical. There is no benefit of using the software “through” Valant and it is inaccurate to describe it as “integrated”. It isn’t. - Mobile app is an HTML throwback that made me nostalgic for college. Limited functionality makes it practically unusable. -Notes are turned in to pdf files on signing which makes searching or quickly reading past notes very difficult. Open each pdf individually rather than scrolling through text in the window. - Very expensive. Double the cost of some competitors. $300 + per provider plus additional costs for Rcopia and additional costs for electronic document handling and costs for patient reminders. All becomes very expensive very quickly. Unless I were filing a significant number of insurance claims or managing insurance claims across multiple locations and providers, it is hard to justify the high price tag. Even so, there are cheaper alternatives. Simple Practice has comparable functionality and is a third of the price. Even accounting for a third party e prescribing service. Patient age - this sounds minor but grows to become a major annoyance. The patients’ age is only displayed on the patient record screen so when not writing or prescribing, it involves clicking through another couple of screens in a new tab. It doesn’t sound much but, believe me, these wasted seconds add up over time and grow to become a major annoyance.

Reliability and ease of documentation is what I liked the most. It's the best EMR available for Behavioral Healthcare. Most Comprehensive.

Sometimes there a few too many clicks but I got used to it.

Vorteile:

Though Valant might be more expensive than other EHR's I feel it is worth the expense. The onboarding experience was excellent. Customer service is exceptional. I am very pleased with the integrated credit card processor, claim submission process & video format. The system is stable, reliable etc.

Nachteile:

It's on the expensive side. It takes extra time to learn the system & I only use a small fraction of the EHR. It does not provide measures/screens for gambling disorder.

Kommentare: My experience had been initially positive. However, the lack of facile customer service or upgrades has been disappointing. There are now other EHRs that are very competitively priced and allow for forms to be developed, and provide more ready access to customer service. My greatest concern is the fact that once the contract ends, all records are out of access. I had been exploring alternative options, but discovered that I would not be able to contract with Valant for less than a year of service. This meant that I had to choose - would I be without access to my files at all, or would I pay for a year of service. There was no negotiation and no options were made possible. I am now very concerned about what happens to records when I retire. I had been pleased that there would be a secure repository for my patient records (I have had a Valant account for 6 years and was an early adopter for a small practice). I find that I am now going to be VERY aggressive in finding and preparing for a migration a year from now to prevent the need to continue to be essentially held hostage as I feel currently. This situation is both unfortunate and unnecessary. It is frankly not the cost of the EHR that will cause me to move on, but the lack of concern for my needs or the needs of the patients I treat. I had honestly not expected this. I live in Seattle, work locally and had wanted to support a local start-up. I had anticipated a very different experience.

Vorteile:

The positives of this software includes the standardized assessments and the inclusion of the necessary elements for both assurance that liability standards are met and billing standards are complete. I also like that the charts and e-prescribing can be accessed on my mobile phone.

Nachteile:

1. Customer service is far less than one would expect given the cost of this program. Lack of ability to actually talk with a customer service person directly, rather than rely on emails that are really not responsive to the questions posed. 2. Lack of user friendliness to operate the patient portals. 3. Once an active contract ends, the data that I had anticipated would be in secure storage, is no longer accessible to me in any way without having paid Valant for assistance to migrate it. This is quite different from what initial marketing had described. It means that once the contract ends - for example retirement, that files may not be accessible unless additional measures are taken. This means that the lifetime data storage is really not very meaningful or helpful over time.

Valant phone support is available to all our customers M-F 6:00am-5:00pm PT and we have recently added additional support agents to decrease wait times. 2. Major enhancements to our patient portal are coming in the second half of 2019. 3. When a contract ends customers can export their data using tools built into the EHR or with the help of our support team. Customer service is a joke, I have spent over an hour trying to get help and when I finally got a person they had me on hold for another half and hour. When she came back on the phone and transferred me it went back to the start and I waited for another 15 minutes before I gave up. I am an accountant and the billing system is beyond stupid! I have never had to go through so many steps to enter one payment. They only want you to use the clearinghouse that they setup. Problem is it rejects nearly every claim, which causes backups. My providers complain about how complicated notes were, I have lost sever providers because of it.

Senior Citizen Can Use it Daily and Smile!

Kommentare: Excellent. Good value for the money. Easy access to everything our mental health practice needs to assure professional documentation and accountability. When we first began, a phone call was answered by the second ring. Now, it takes an extra step or two, but call backs DO happen without a second call within the same business day. We will remain a Valant customer!

Vorteile:

Ease of use! Every thing I need to schedule, bill, check the providers documentation, reconcile patient accounts, is all in view. A click or two and it is done. I appreciate the Knowledge Base feature for information and Contact Support feature for prompt assistance. The Report tool has become a favorite for providing clear data to the providers/owners. Training modules are required for our new hires before they see me - provides basic process information that is easy for me to extend so new hires (providers) get with it quickly. But for my primary job, billing process is done daily with just a few clicks of the mouse!

Nachteile:

Sometimes I feel like it has too much to offer a practice. I know it can do much more for our small practice than we know how to use effectively. The PHD among us struggles with the features in Mobile Notes - mostly because he has struggled to "change" his established process for documenting. Valant has allowed templates to be added that make his work for comfortable.

Would recommend Valant for Mental Health

Kommentare: The reason we have stayed with Valant since 2016 is the ease of navigating the flow of the work. Documentation and the way it prints out in a professional manner is a plus, customer service - especially for billing - they go above and beyond to resolve issues/answer questions. Never make you feel inadequate. Appointment reminders have made a huge difference in reducing no shows.

Vorteile:

Customer support is awesome. Usually the wait time to talk to a live person is short and usually the person answering the phone can resolve the issue without having to escalate it. The billing system takes time to understand how all pieces work together - but after practice and the assistance of customer support - it is user friendly, efficient use of my time.

Nachteile:

The department that has the worst customer service is accounting for sure. They do not return voicemails and only respond to emails. However, some issues/questions are better resolved by a quick phone call vs. multiple emails back and forth.

Buyer beware.

Kommentare: Valant unilaterally extended us for 12 months, when we were a few months away from closing out our account with them (with Valant's tech team assisting our switch, and business side aware) - and they sent the "renewal notification" to a random person who was not ever a part of our practice. We are contesting their charges with the bank, filing a complaint with the better business bureau, and will proceed to court if necessary. It has been an unfortunate and unprofessional experience dealing with Valant, not to mention we were also dissatisfied with the product. Buyer beware.

Vorteile:

We found the product lacking overall. The functionality of the documentation side is too limited, including features related to MACRA/Meaningful Use.

Nachteile:

We found the EMR to be lacking compared to more robust alternatives, and therefore decided to change to another product. Then we also had very serious issues thereafter, with Valant unilaterally extending us for 12 months, as we were about to close out our transition to the other EMR vendor. (Valant's tech team was assisting us with the switch, and business/customer-service side was aware). This was an unprofessional, despicable money grab. Why would we extend with Valant for 12 months, when we were a few months away from closing our account?

Easy to use and customizable to your practice

Vorteile:

The Valant software is easy to use for our administrative staff, psychologists, and psychiatrists. As a behavioral health software, it allows our practice to run smoothly and efficiently. Valant allows our practice to set up clients, manage client medical records, bill clients and insurance companies, process insurance EOB's, customize note templates that are tailored to our practice, create reports (patient aging, insurance aging, productivity, charges, client lists, etc.), an online portal system for statements, etc. From the scheduler tool, there is an option to provide appointment reminder calls, emails, and/or texts which our clients find very helpful. The support team is also excellent. They are quick to respond, very knowledgeable, and helpful. Our practice is also able to send out outcomes monitoring to our clients on a frequent basis, which allows our clinicians to easily track client progress.

Nachteile:

Valant currently uses Silverlight for their software, but they are working on changing this very soon so our office won't be limited to specific web browsers.

Kommentare: Great in the first three years. Now I am in process of finding a replacement. Since the pandemic support has been lousy. In the last two year there has been a steady increase in data error and user interface changes that make the screens difficult to use. And so far, they do not fix data errors they create.

Vorteile:

In the beginning, I was very happy with this software. Everything I needed was there for me to run a solo practice including complete billing and insurance claims processing.

Nachteile:

In the end, I became quite disillusioned by the decline of the quality of the software and the lack of support. And the expense of this package and the linked clearinghouse software, Waystar, doubled over the last three years.

Easy to use, lots of missing features

Vorteile:

It's easy to learn, and can clearly do a lot for us.

Nachteile:

There are lots of frustrations we experience. The patient portal doesn't seem to be very intuitive for our patients. The insurance portions have features missing we'd like to see. Valant will broad-strokes make updates that sometimes eliminate information we wanted to keep, and they do so without asking their userbase about it.

Reliable software, but outdated interface and surpassed in features by competitors.

Kommentare: I have used Valant for almost 3 years and I am considering moving to a different EHR system. I have been told a complete redesign is in the works, however, they offer no details, time table or roadmap. Here are some of my thoughts Pros:
The claims submission/reporting process is very reliable and easy and the primary reason I still use them. The online measures are very good and helpful although many of them have bugs. Pricing is OK. Customer service is fantastic and their training is excellent. They will have you up and running quickly.
Cons:
It is primarily oriented towards psychiatrists, so many of the templates and features a focused on psychiatrists, not psychologists or therapists. Many of the other features have bugs, limited usefulness and the program is slow and the interface is very outdated and inconsistent. In many ways it reminds of of Windows 98, that is how outdated it is. The mobile notes feature is cumbersome and has no ability to customize it to your usage; the calendar syncs one-way only with external calendars so you must log in to Valant to make changes; reminders only work in the Valant system and only remind you on the dashboard with a note (there are no reminders at all really and they must be tied to a client so you can't add reminders for things that are not directly related to a client which requires you to maintain two separate calendars); the "mobile" application is little more than a webpage with basic information in a text format, it's is not designed for mobile devices, the interface is horrible and looks and functions as if it is 15 years out of date and has little functionality, it is more of an afterthought; you can't customize mobile notes templates or choose which ones you want to use, whenever you use a mobile note you are blasted by 30 different tabs 25 of which won't apply to therapists and which makes a confusing and messy experience; claims processing is expensive (.60/claim by my calculations) and the competition is charging between .14 and .25.
In general most of the basic features you need are there and work, but they are frustrating at times and lack many additional features that are natural to need. My primary concern is after 2+ years there has been little change in the software and the value is being reduced as they are falling behind in features and functionality.

Audit proof your EHR

Kommentare: Nearly all the Valant staff members were have worked with have been friendly and professional.

Vorteile:

The Valant system runs a tight ship requiring all the important piece to be in place before signing and billing. Additionally it has many checkpoints along the way.

Nachteile:

Old browsers still being used that can be slow. We are still trying to locate a direct messaging address for us to connect outside medical records received.

Easy to use

Kommentare: I have been using this system for a few years now, and for the money, it is a great buy and I have no regrets.

Vorteile:

The Intake Assessment provided gives a clear overview of the needs of the client. Keeping track of the payments is a breeze. Progress notes are easy to use and treatment plan suggestions make this process easy. Informed Consent, Diagnosis page, Mental Status Exam and many other suggested or necessary documents are at your fingertips.

Nachteile:

I always seem to find it hard to find the treatment plan after it is finished, when I want to go back to it. That could just be me.
