Review of IconCMO Fund Accounting Software

Kommentare: My overall experience with IconCMO has been very positive. I can't say enough about the support staff. They have always been very helpful. They always listened to my problem and helped me figure out a solution. Sometimes that took a while because we have some things are a little unique, but I never got off the phone feeling like I wasn't heard and almost always had a solution. The program more than adequately provides for our software needs. I would highly recommend this program and have done so.

Vorteile:

I was new to fund accounting when we started using IconCMO, so there was a learning curve for me. I made every mistake in the book and the support team was right there to walk me through every issue. Their support is superb. I have since come to appreciate all that the program can do. I especially like that the program is in the "cloud" because I can work from home if necessary.

Nachteile:

We use a lot of funds and I wish there was a detailed general ledger report that would print the transactions by fund, then by account. Currently, I have to print a report for each fund we have, so that's over 20 separate reports and it's timeconsuming.

Vorteile:

Ease of use and call in support. Response times have always been timely and helpful.

Nachteile:

I have no comments in this area to mention

IconCMO Accounting Module Review

Kommentare: Able to implement fund accounting and create financial reports for the entire organization or individual funds as needed. Able to easily access contribution records so the detail there can be mirrored in total on the Accounting Module. Not yet automatically posting, but may do so one day.

Vorteile:

Easy to use, very affordable, handles fund accounting.

Nachteile:

No ability to organize accounts so that they appear logically on GL reports, especially the statement of activities. Account numbers would help, or a report writer feature. Canned reports (some of them) are laid out with lots of wasted space between subtotals, etc. I think there would be a benefit to having a user group set up to review canned reports and suggest improvements. I also find the bank reconciliation feature to be mystifying so I do them manually...old school! Lastly, the cash receipt (deposit) screen doesn’t work really smoothly. When I have a receipt with more than one line, I hope to see certain pieces of data auto fill for each line after the first one. Particularly the reference box in the upper right corner. A minor thing but creates more key strokes for the user.

Icon has been great for our church!

Vorteile:

Icon's support forum and technical support are top notch. I called the other day with a question and the person who helped me gave great information that met my needs right away. Icon made some great improvements to the Donations Module recently that have really sped the process of entering donations.

Nachteile:

No real issues, we are probably not tapping into the full capabilities of the system particularly when it comes to the CRM features.

ICON an excellent choice for church accounting

Kommentare: We are a church with the usual church requirements. ICON integrates accounting, contribution recording, and membership rolls. We've saved a lot of time by having an integrated solution. The *support* from the ICON team is tremendous. They are responsive and helpful. That makes a tremendous difference especially for part time, volunteer people at the church using this product.

Vorteile:

It does fund accounting correctly. For a church, where keeping track of restricted funds is almost a certainty, ICON is much easier to use than general purpose accounting packages. I like that it's web-based; I can do most of my work from home (or hotel room, or wherever), and I don't have to worry about a computer at the church failing and losing data. I like the linkage between the membership rolls, contribution recording and reporting, and the accounting system.

Nachteile:

I wish more of the reports had numbers in the report "linked" to other reports so you can click on a number and see the detail behind the number. I wish windows were resizable.

Great value for a budget friendly CMS

Kommentare: It is a great product for the price point. Haven't found anything comparable.

Vorteile:

Integration of contribution and accounting Ease of use, easy learning curve Ability to give user specific access

Nachteile:

Lack of customized directory options You have to have some accounting framework to use effectively

Best customer service anywhere

Vorteile:

It's easy to use most of the time. Just so much better than Quick Books.

Nachteile:

Cannot delete, actually delete journal entries. Not crazy about the check register as it doesn't show memos.

I have been using for years and appreciate how responsive Icon is to questions and solutions.

Kommentare: Makes my job and life much easier. It only takes a few minutes to look up almost any information.

Vorteile:

I love the integration between the contributions database and the Fund Accounting. I like the constant improvements the developers make.

Nachteile:

The biggest challenge is to have every report you would like. However, Icon is always working too add reports when requested.

Great value-based and intuitive Software

Kommentare: Very intuitive, overall easy to learn. Excellent customer service. Great software for the money.

Vorteile:

This software is very easy to use. Good Fund Accounting. Good ability to retrieve transactions and correct mistakes. Excellent 800# support.

Nachteile:

Transaction ID protocol could be be improved so the initial ID# can have a root-capability in say, contributions so transactions can be tracked/identified all the way to the GL Detail. Reporting could use some improvement: provide hyperlinks and options for custom summary reporting - without adding the complexity of something like Crystal Reports. Options for displaying in whole dollars. Add option to display revs/expenses summarized by Department (so add account coding capability to make departments). Maybe add on-the-fly option to add new accounts/funds when doing journal entries. Add hyperlinks to Help sections.

Customer Service Excels!

Kommentare: It has been extremely positive - we had zero knowledge of the software and have relied heavily on information on the site and customer support and the support service has been better than most I've ever experienced - timely, easy to understand and can understand our issues even if we don't!

Vorteile:

Easy to use for most congregations who don't have experienced personnel.

Nachteile:

Not necessarily a software issue but getting council members and congregations to understand "account" vs "fund" is never easy! It's our biggest struggle.

Focused on our needs

Kommentare: I am very happy with the software itself. But what I appreciate above all else is the customer service.

Vorteile:

We use almost every feature of the program. The reason for this, in my opinion, is that Icon's software is specifically designed to be used in a church/parochial school setting. I like how quickly I can access reports and provide meaningful financial data to the various boards of the church and school.

Nachteile:

Right now, the taxation of payroll is accomplished on a rate card by rate card basis. So if we have an employee that does several different jobs in several different departments, without making guesses to the the withholding view/setup screen we cannot accurately deduct the proper withholding for that employee.

Wonderful Product

Vorteile:

I absolutely love Icon's customer service. When you call them, a real person answers immediately and they walk you through step by step directions on how to solve your problem. They are knowledgeable and friendly.

Nachteile:

The main thing I do not like with Icon is how it doesn't integrate with major church management softwares. I feel like it's a little behind times when it comes to that.

Overall good service for churches

Kommentare: I enjoy that Icon is a church specific software that has great customer service. I would like to see them get more features including the ability to attach receipts or documentation to the transactions. I would also like to be able to edit transactions after they are posted without having to void the transaction and then recreate it. It has caused issues for when I write checks and have to go back and make a small change.

Vorteile:

I like that Icon is set up specifically for church accounting. Often times regular bookkeeping software does not have the capabilities to track the type of detail needed for nonprofit/churches. I have also been impressed with their customer service. I don't have to wait on hold forever just to not get my question fully answered. I have always been pleased with their assistance.

Nachteile:

I wish that Icon had a bank feed capability. I do bookkeeping for multiple clients, and the bank feed would be helpful to not have to enter everything manually. I try to automate my services as much as possible to increase efficiency and have time for work that produces more value for the client than data entry.

I find the software to be very good and the help desk to be friendly and knowledgeable

Kommentare: This software replaced the churches use of Excel for reports associated with the budget, contributions, and members.

Vorteile:

As a former accountant, I find this software to be inline with most accounting software. It is very comprehensive and also easy to use and make adjustments when necessary. I would recommend it to other church treasurers. There are a variety of reports to choose from. I also like the help explanation for each screen. If I have a question or want to discuss an entry, I generally call the help desk who are always very responsive and courteous.

Icon review

Kommentare: I really like the software and it’s functionality. It has all the church needs for accounting purposes. Anytime I have called and talked with Icon has been a very helpful and great experience

Vorteile:

Our Church has been using Icon for about 5 years now but I just started in my roll of financial director for 8 months. This software has been very easy and user friendly to learn. I have had to use this with almost no training and i have been able to navigate with ease. I haven been able to use some of the resources on the site to answer questions

Nachteile:

I am still learning so I can’t say I have a least part yet. I do this part time, so digging into the whole program has not happened yet.

Kommentare: Very good

Vorteile:

The software is easy to use. It is comprehensive. Budgets are easy to establish and change. Reports cover all my needs. The system does not let you post if not in balance. Easy to establish accounts. Expense line items can be used across all funds. Can tie an expense account to a specific vendor such as garbage to garbage provider.

Nachteile:

Journal entries can be cumbersome. Have to identify savings account as checking account to get it to report fund balance by checking account report. I have money in savings from a multitude of funds.

Fits all needs

Vorteile:

Icon has allowed our church to keep all of our finances in a synced location that is accessible to multiple users. From taxes to weekly giving to payroll, Icon allows us to keep our accounts up to date and easy to access. I love that we can pull up any payroll, bank deposit, fund transfer, etc,. at any time.

Nachteile:

My biggest issue with Icon is the lack on confirmation notifications after posting. Whether it is an account transfer or a credit card payment distribution, it would be nice to see a notification that the work has been completed.

Kommentare: I use the accounting and the payroll functions. Both work well and are easy to use

The way the contribution side and the accounting side sync together.

Nachteile:

There is nothing i don't like about this software.

Great system

Kommentare: It is very easy to use.

Vorteile:

I have used several different softwares for churches and I find that this is the best.

Nachteile:

I haven't come across anything as of yet.

We operate with a Fund Accounting system, and use Payroll module for bi-weekly payroll.

Vorteile:

Payroll Module: Easy to navigate, provides relevant reporting for my use, allows for multiple rate cards to be used.

Nachteile:

Payroll Module: does not allow for accumulated, unused PTO to be accounted for on pay stubs. Does not allow for showing PTO used without adjusting Rate Cards - I would like to be able to enter PTO used instead of showing salary applied.

User for Church Treasurer position

Kommentare: The software is easy to learn. I self-taught myself in a couple of hours. Biggest disappointment is not being able to drill down from reports to get to the source documents.

Vorteile:

Benefits of keeping church records of tithes, members, etc.

Nachteile:

No drill down capabilities from reports menu.

Really helps me know how much money is available in all funds.

Vorteile:

Seems easy to use after learning it on my own with the help of your technical support. They were GREAT!

Nachteile:

In order to Place Restricted Funds together would have to redo the complete Chart of Accounts. If a fund is restricted it only shows which funds are restricted on the "Balance Sheet".

Functional, fairly comprehensive, customer service very helpful.

Vorteile:

The user friendly tips on accounting processes is very helpful for simple users like me with no accounting background. Customer Service is very friendly and helpful. There are many reports that meet most of our auditing and reporting requirements.

Nachteile:

update requests seem slow coming, some of the steps seem cumbersome and it would be nice if there were links from one tab to other tabs. Also, when changing our chart of accounts from one year to the next, it would be helpful if it would freeze the chart of the current year if desired and only make changes to the new year that is being worked on.

Organized, Simplified, and so many possibilities

Kommentare: Icon has made gathering information so much easier, I would highly recommend it's continue us. It is the best option for my work, thank you!

Vorteile:

I so appreciate the ability to use the database for specific ministries and purposes. It has simplified how we store information and connect with our people.

Nachteile:

Sometimes the program feels complicated and font and selection boxes are cluttered and small. I wish font was larger.

Great Program for Churches

Kommentare: I think that the overall experience is very positive. It streamlines all our accounting needs and really is a great program.

Vorteile:

It is easy to use and when you need help the customer service team is very helpful and will walk you through and thing.

Nachteile:

There really isn't anything I don't like about the software. It is very user friendly and like I said above if I need any help or make a mistake I can call and they are so helpful.
