My new favourite cloud provider.

Kommentare: Porting my app to DigitalOcean was an absolute breeze. We went looking for a platform as a service provider that could replace Heroku without losing all the zero-config creature comforts we have come to expect, and DigitalOcean has more than met the mark. We are confident that we will have every need met throughout our scaling journey, and that the pricing will be fair all the way up.

Vorteile:

DigitalOcean is the simplest and most cost-effective platform-as-a-service provider I have ever used. Their simplicity does not come at additional cost unlike Heroku, and they have all the tooling and infrastructure to manage your every cloud need. Their documentation is spectacular, and their support is second to none.

Nachteile:

If there are any cons to using DigitalOcean, I haven't encountered them yet. My experience so far has been absolutely flawless and I am a very happy customer.

Simple, Reliable and Developer Friendly

Sometimes support can be slow, especially during high traffic times. Would love faster response options

Nightmare company erased all our data and backups

It seemed reliable but isn´t - it´s a horror company.

Nachteile:

I have used digital ocean for more than 7 years. Now comes the horror. I was on a summer trip for about a month and really took a digital detox time. Within this period, our company credit card was outdated, so the monthly payment couldn´t be processed. When I saw this, I immeadiately used another payment service and took care of the bill. However, DigitalOcean had already erased all our company data and back-ups. A project worth more than 150 thousand EUROS was just erased. According to DigitalOcean the data is gone forever and they told me don´t worry you can just start a new one. To everyone out there, the company is not trustworthy and doesn´t care about you. Watch out and better find an alternative, usually data is stored in backups and not 100% erased within such a short period. Moreover, customer service really bad - unbelievable.

Very good hoster

Kommentare: Very good experience, there are good options but marketplace's images needs to be updated or deleted.

Vorteile:

Easy to create droplets with a lot of options Good panel with simples options, good for beginners

Nachteile:

Price is a little bit high for some products (Databases for example) Marketplace's apps are not up to date for many (example: Airbyte)

Simple and affordable hosting that gets the job done!

Vorteile:

Pricing is one of the best things about DigitalOcean. You get really affordable options without sacrificing too much in terms of performance, which is a win-win.

Nachteile:

Support could use some improvement. When things go wrong, it sometimes takes a bit longer to get the help you need.

My personal experience using DigitalOcean

DigitalOcean provides user friendly website and competitive pricing which i used to buy domains for my personal uses

Nachteile:

Their community support might not be best in the businesses or around the other alternatives

Cost savings, flexible and scalable solution to try.

Kommentare: This is a software that helps us easily compete and succeed. Fast monetization.

Vorteile:

This IaaS eliminates the responsibility of owning, deploying, maintaining and managing physical infrastructure. The features are reliable and easy to use to everyone.

Nachteile:

Low internet speed or fluctuating supply would really cost the user. We really struggled before realizing this.

A developer friendly provider for cloud services

Kommentare: My overall experience was really nice. It's a great option for developers who need to run their own virtual servers etc.

Vorteile:

I love how good their documentation is. They even provide guides for issues which are not directly related to their services.

Nachteile:

I'd like to see an option for a pay-as-you-go plan without any fixed costs.

A very good experience despite the prices

Kommentare: I had a great experience with digital ocean. The support team has always been there for any problem, and usually respond within a day. The only con is related to th prices

Vorteile:

Very simple UI, an effective and fast support. Also, everything needed is present.

Nachteile:

The prices are a bit high, and VAT-excluded.

A good Cloud Service for juniors

Vorteile:

The UI is very simple to use. Deploy databases and instances is a really easy task.

Nachteile:

I think Digital Ocean is too expensive, there are some cheaper options

Intuitive Tools for Creating Infrastructure

Kommentare: I've been really happy with DigitalOcean. I started out just messing around with a small side project to stay sharp. I'm now running a server for an API, another server for a frontend app, and a managed DB that the API pulls from. Connecting these was easy and connecting my domains to different servers was easy. I have loved working in DigitalOcean and I love that the prices are low enough that I could play around without any real intent of making a profitable project, and that breathing space let me run the servers and resources for long enough that I actually have something up and running pretty nicely with just a few hours here and there to tinker.

Vorteile:

- Great UI - you can do everything in the browser without using CLI - create new web servers, managed databases, bucket storage - API matches Amazon S3 - familiar methods of interacting with resources - Pricing is great, 200GB bucket storage runs $5/mo, Servers start at $5 month, managed DB at $15/mo. - CDN for fast delivery across the globe - Easy to understand your bill and not get bit. You can create an image of your server and then kill the server, so you are not being charged server prices ($$/month) and just image prices (pennies/month). This makes it easy to put a project on hold and come back in the future without paying a ton to host something that's just waiting for you. - One-click to spin up a provisioned Ubuntu droplet, LAMP stack or dozens of preconfigured server images. I especially liked this feature because I'm not a linux genius and getting Apache and PHP setup can take me hours of tears and frustration. Instead, you can just select an image that interests you and 30 seconds later you have a server ready to go. - Floating IPs let you lock in a permanent IP address even though you may start and stop servers and their individual IPs might change - Domain management. This is a key feature. If you move your nameservers to DO, it's stupid easy to create subdomains and point them to your DO servers. - Easy to resize/upgrade a server, add RAM or disk space. - Tons of Q&A, any time I had a question someone else had already asked it and received a clear answer.

Nachteile:

There is the occasional UI bug, and sometimes I get an email about a region having some temporary hold on creating new servers. Nothing that lasts more than a few minutes, and usually its something like "We are temporarily disabling the ability to create new servers in the NYC3 Region" but existing resources don't go down and if I desperately needed to start a new server I could just use any other region and move it to the NYC3 region later if necessary.

Affordable but has some problems

Kommentare: My overall experience with them is good but I suggest DigitalOcean users to back up their droplets frequently to another service provider. If they lock your account, the customer service is hard to reach and if they wouldn't restore your access, you are risking losing your data.

Vorteile:

The user interface is really easy to use, with a few clicks it allows you to create a droplet across the globe. Also, it is easy to manage access controls and overall network/firewall rules. They provide affordable S3 like data storage solution called "Spaces". If you are switching from Amazon S3, the best thing about Spaces is it compatible with official S3 libraries which eliminates the implementation process as you can use the same infrastructure for Spaces too.

Nachteile:

They should revise Spaces product page/documentation. I had to reach customer support to verify that spaces is just a subscription service so it comes with unlimited buckets. This information is not provided on their product page. Also, their customer service is really hard to reach, and they are not helpful. The worst thing about their service is their automated bots. They can lock your account without a valid reason, and it really hard to convince them to undo it.

Simplicity without compromising features

Kommentare: I switched to Digital Ocean from AWS after a long and considered research phase. The problems I wanted to avoid were 1) unpredictable pricing, 2) vendor tie-in, 3) difficult to get performance without just paying more. With Digital Ocean, all of the above points were hit, and I feel totally control of my company's digital infrastructure.

Vorteile:

With Digital Ocean, you get exactly what you pay for. Unlike other cloud providers, if you pay for a server with X capacity, you get exactly that, without any secret charges or "token" based performance. The pricing is predictable and the decisions are made simple. On top of this, the web-based user interface is well thought out and allows you to organise your servers into teams and projects. Each team can have separate billing but it is all predictable.

Nachteile:

The web admin user interface is a little slow and clunky at times. It does the job, and is pleasant to look at, but seeing an animation of a shark swimming every time you click a button is common. I can't knock the functionality, but the way the web application has been built means that every action requires a loading animation, which can really get in the way of the task at hand.

Digital Ocean is really an ocean

Kommentare: It's awesome and hopefully will be awesome. It's IaaS service i loved the most.

Vorteile:

it's reliability is awesome and worls very awesome. Pricing also cheap. So we consider and refer to other.

Nachteile:

Support system should be empowered to best level as other are having advanced system for support to customers.

Digital Ocean has saved me a lot of money

Kommentare: The pricing is fantastic and has really forced me to abandon any expensive managed hosting platforms. With DO, I can use the latest web server technology when I want. I have experience nothing but great, prompt customer service.

Vorteile:

Along with great guides, DO has provided me and my clients with a growing list of tools to be more productive.

Nachteile:

The learning curve was steep when I started using DO several years ago. I imagine those with no experience in this area would struggle but the guides really helped.

Fast, Easy, and Reliable Hosting with DigitalOcean

Vorteile:

DigitalOcean is an ideal choice for backend development, as it offers a great deal of flexibility in terms of server options, an intuitive user interface, and fast deployment cycles. Nachteile:

I dislike that DigitalOcean does not offer as many services as some of their competitors. They are making a great effort to add more services, but they are still behind in comparison to other cloud providers.

DigitalOcean review

Kommentare: Very good and modern tool allowing quick web app development and deployment. Really good experience with integration.

Vorteile:

Gives us the possibility to quickly deploy the web app or server for super reasonable price before. The implementation is really easy

Nachteile:

The documentation is sporadic in some important technical details. This should be improved to speed up our development

Simplistic and Affordable Cloud Computing

Vorteile:

What I like about Digital Ocean is its easy-to-use User Interface. It is simple and intuitive, making it easy for users to get started with cloud hosting

Nachteile:

Overall it's a great alternative for Cloud Hosting solutions but even though it has a great User Interface it lacks a lot in feature sets when compared to other cloud providers.

Techie’s best choice

The software comes with a free one year subscription if you have github pro which is insanely good and the power and speed the virtual machines have i think no other machines have in the world

Nachteile:

The product is designed in such a way leaves no cons back

Made for developers, ready for production, powers my whole business

Kommentare: Being able to combine different resources the way I need gives me the maximum flexibility to offer the optimal solutions to my customers. Almost all important web services providers have almost impossible to understand pricing calculators - pretending that this extremely insane granulation will make you obtain the optimal cost effective solution. It may be true for a large organisation, but for small companies like mine, a simple and straight-forward pricing model like the one digitalocean has is more than enough and makes me not waste my precious programming hours.

Vorteile:

I have tried different VPS solutions, looking for a reliable, easy to use and cost effective solution for my web apps and websites. Finally I've ended up migrating almost all my work to Digitalocean, my being a developer who does not wish to waste too much time with sys admin issues. Everything comes handy and is easy to understand. A big plus for me, working mainly the EU market is that I can host my VPS's in the EU, so that I may comply to the GDPR requirements. I just love it.

Nachteile:

I really have no complaints. Everything works smoothly

My new go-to for all matters of hosting

Kommentare: Virtual server and machine hosting for multiple websites and databases

Vorteile:

DigitalOcean makes it incredibly simple to setup and manage virtual cloud servers for almost any size, scale and scope of project you have in mind. From one-off web pages to large databases, you can easily spin up and start developing without much interference, and the technical support is very strong.The pricing is also incredibly reasonable, and scales with usage.

Nachteile:

While they make it easy, it still requires a fair amount of technical knowledge to get acquainted with the setup and terminology used ('droplets', 'applets', etc.). There is also a need to stay organized, because if you manage a lot of different projects, it can be difficult to keep everything organized.

DigitalOcean is my favorite go-to hosting solution

Kommentare: I am overall extremely satisfied with DigitalOcean, but like every company - I think there are some core features they can (and should) improve.

Vorteile:

- They have an extremely clear pricing model - you always know what you're gonna be paying that month (no unexpected charges of $5k). - It's really simple to get setup and working - They allow for Floating IP's (for free, while being assigned to a droplet) and this allows you to really quickly reroute traffic to another service. - It has a very well documented and powerful API so you can automate repetitive tasks - They generally respond well to user feature requests on their portal.

Nachteile:

- It feels like snapshotting or creating a new server takes longer than it needs to. - You cannot download snapshots. - You cannot transfer services (like a droplet or ip) to another account or team.

Best Budget Cloud Service Provider

Kommentare: Its very good cloud service provider.

Vorteile:

Digital Oceans very helpful for our small startup company, Its provide droplets and database droplets based our budget.

Nachteile:

Based on our requirements and usage there was no least about DigitalOcean.

Personal Experience

Kommentare: I'm an email marketer, and I use DigitalOcean droplets to create virtual private servers to host my SMTP server, which allows me to send emails to my list.

Vorteile:

It is one of the simplest ways to set up a VPS, and you can choose from a variety of operating systems such as Ubuntu. There are numerous droplets to choose from, each with a different price. The best part is the free trial period that they provide when you register, which allows you to try everything they offer for free.

Nachteile:

What I dislike the most is that it has a bad reputation, so if you decide to use it as your email marketing server, you should be aware that it will be blacklisted the majority of the time. Furthermore, they make no effort to prevent spammers from using their services.

Top of the line solution!

Awesome to be able to utilize resources in the cloud and a really good provider that has excellent support to give. In addition they provide top of the line document and technical implementation guides, which I love!

Nachteile:

Can't come up with anything straight away, except for wanting lover rates, even if they are very low already. :-)
