Otter: Easy to Use Middlemarket English Transcription

Kommentare: Otter is easy to use and would make a great edition to your corporate toolbelt. However, it's per user price and issues with certain speakers, mean that this might be your backup choice insofar as transcription.

Vorteile:

Otter is easy to use and can even record directly from your microphone (thus getting around the rigamarole of inviting the AI assistant into specific meetings/dealing with outages.

Nachteile:

Otter can only really transcribe English, and even then fast speakers, individuals with heavy accents, or irregular speech patterns (repeated use of 'uh' , 'ah' and other fillers, raising and lowering one's voice multiple times in a sentence, etc) seems to baffle it.

Powerful AI transcribing platform

Kommentare: It has been excellent overall once I figured out all its capabilities, which took some time.

Vorteile:

for a relatively low-cost point, it does so much with regards to transcribing calls and online meetings as well as uses AI to generate summaries, and inquiries can be made as well.

Nachteile:

Lack of initial training and onboarding were lacking, which could have been helpful in utilizing the product more fully from the get-go.

Easy transcription and recording

Kommentare: I can login to my Otter dashboard and see at a glance which calls are upcoming, past recordings and transcriptions, and available features. It's fairly user-friendly. Otter is now my go-to for recording and transcribing calls. Otter timestamps, generates notes, and identifies action items and highlights from my meetings.

Vorteile:

I love the instant transcription feature and the fact that you can 'set and forget' Otter with your meetings -- the app will ask to join your calls and take notes, summarize your conversations, and can even take screenshots so you don't forget details.

Nachteile:

I can't figure out how to uninvite Otter to some of my events that are offline and don't have a conference call, even if I toggle the app off in specific events in the dashboard. Otter still tries to attend the event in my calendar reminding me when my kid's kindergarten starts and stops. :) I've toggled it 'off' for this event in the dashboard, but that hasn't resolved the issue. I consider this to be a minor problem given how powerful the app is for my workflow. By the way, I haven't had an issue removing or uninviting Otter from a video conference call, JUST in-person events, which Otter can't 'attend' anyway! LOL.

A Must-Have Tool for Productivity

Kommentare: Using Otter has been a game-changer for my productivity. Its ability to transcribe meetings and notes accurately has saved me countless hours.

Vorteile:

Otter is incredibly user-friendly and intuitive. It has streamlined my workflow significantly.

Nachteile:

While Otter is excellent, it occasionally struggles with accurately transcribing complex technical terms. However, this is a minor issue compared to its overall utility.

Vorteile:

You don't have to worry about taking notes during meetings.

Nachteile:

The free subscription is very limited if you attend meetings regularly which is capped at 300 monthly transcription minutes; 30 minutes per conversation.

Great if your recordings are all clear with no background noise.

Kommentare: It was inexpensive but required a lot of time double-checkin the transcriptions which was very frustrating. If you have audio that is clear and concise, it would work fine but if there's background noise or accents, it often wouldn't pick up correctly.

Vorteile:

It was inexpensive and easy to use and integrate.

Nachteile:

The transcriptions often come out very strange and inaccurate.

Good for concurrent meetings and transcription

Vorteile:

While having an interview, it is good to record and transcribe the meeting concurrently.

Nachteile:

I liked the Otter ai and tried to subscribe it but it was too expensive.

Otter.ai – the time saver

Kommentare: Brilliant. The ease of transcribing my voice notes into text is outstanding.

Vorteile:

using the mobile app I can transcribe notes on the go. I do this often when I'm on the mountain walking the dogs. :-)

Nachteile:

The transcribed text sometimes gets bunched together. This is by no means a serious issue as it takes little time to reformat the text.

Wish there were more viewing options of the transcribed text (e.g. without time stamps)

Great option for transcribing and easily keeping track of minutes of meeting

Vorteile:

It keeps track of all the minutes of meetings by transcribing them in real-time. One can easily search the word and go to the timestamp of the video rather than watching the whole video to search for something. Transcribing the meeting becomes really powerful as it saves time for a recap and filters out all the important information with the advanced search option. I like that one can directly record an audio for transcription without needing to connect to meeting app.

Nachteile:

In my experience the quality of transcription I get in Otter varies a lot depending on the microphone or headset I am using. For some headsets, the transcription does not work as well when compared to others even though all my headsets are of good quality. The quality of transcription varies especially as different people in meetings can have different speaker volumes and accents. The upload time for pre-recorded zoom videos is too long in my experience, take about an hour for a 1 Gb file.

Best Software for Transcription and Note Taking

Vorteile:

This software has a good user interface for both computer and mobile devices. Its playback option is a unique feature along with its capability of transcribing in real time.

Nachteile:

It is a good software given the task it accomplishes yet some features like the upload time of video files could be upgraded at a more convenient position.

If you work for a remotely connected company, this is essential

Kommentare: This app is helpful in picking up keywords and finding the location in the zoom call where that keyword was discussed. But i think without the zoom recording alongside the transcripts, they are not much help for our needs. It would be interesting to see how this app's transcriptions compare with competitors like Fathom.

Vorteile:

With so many zoom meetings, it's really helpful to be able to search transcripts to see who said what, or what the final word was on a discussion.

Nachteile:

The AI transcription could be a lot better. The punctuation is off and maybe people talk too fast but it's rarely accurate. You have to do a lot of deciphering to determine what people we really saying, or listen along with the zoom recording. I don't know if all ai note taking apps are like this though. I also wish that it would capture everyone's name from the zoom meetings, for some reason only some names are captured and others are just listed as "Speaker 1" or "Speaker 2",etc.

Nothing Beats Otter AI

Kommentare: I discovered Otter AI back in 2019 and i haven't had a reason to uninstall it. I think the best thing about it is that you can begin recording and then the app continues to transcribe it in the background. So while i love the accuracy of transcription, i enjoy the recording feature as well. In fact I remember a client of mine said something about 16 thousand but when i read the transcription it was written as 60 thousand and I was like, this must be a mistake so I heard the audio and yes! it was 60 thousand and because i couldnt believe it, so i asked the client again to confirm if it was sixteen or sixty and he said "oh yea yea its sixty"... i'm not planning to move away from Otter AI

The transcription feature is so amazing! I have used it so many times to understand what the client meeting was all about especially when building proposals.

Nachteile:

Have yet to find a problem in the app. I mean it has a quick widget on iOS also!

Using Otter to Transcribe Sermons

Kommentare: Otter helps me, as a pastor, to get a written transcription of a previously-preached sermon. This is helpful because I don't normally write out my manuscripts on the front end, but rather, just a fleshed-out outline. Having a written transcript, thanks to Otter, will help me if I ever decide to preach these sermons again in the future in a different venue.

Vorteile:

I loved how Otter helps me transcribe my previously-preached sermons so that I can conduct effective "post-game analysis." Specifically, I can go back and see the variety of words I used when I preached; how repetitive I was; and what was the level of complexity or difficulty of the individual words I used.

Nachteile:

The one thing I found particularly frustrating about this software was the amount of time it takes to upload an audio file to Otter... it would sometimes take over twenty minutes to upload one of my sermon audio files in order for it to be transcripts. I also didn't like that the free version of Otter cuts off an audio file at the 45 minute mark, as I tend to preach about 50 minutes (so I often miss out on the last five minutes).

Accurate and Effienct tool for Transcriptions

Vorteile:

The software is reasonably priced and does quite a decent job of trascriptions. Its quick and reasonably accurate for a first draft.

Nachteile:

Nothing to not like about it. the transcriptions are not 100%, but thats fine. Sure beats other tools out there at the same price range.

Great product for reviewing meeting info

Kommentare: It's been outstanding as in meetings it's sometimes hard to get all the information needed.

Vorteile:

I like the option for both text and voice for review. It has been very easy to navigate through the notes and helps with reporting.

Nachteile:

There haven't been any cons to the software. Nothing at this point that I can say I dislike. It's a click of a button and your ready to go.

Run a Podcast? Seriously think about using Otter

Vorteile:

Great for use in various situations, much more than just an automatic transcriber. The interface and bubble style interface for identifying speakers are super useful. Being able to train the software to recognize your own or other voices is also quite useful.

Nachteile:

File upload system could be cleaner. It definitely has a learning curve to overcome.

Need a quick transcriptions?

Kommentare: On the whole, I like it. I love the time stamp because that enables me to create chapter headings based on them. I post my podcast both on Buzzsprout and Youtube, so this is very helpful. And I can use the transcript for both, as well.
I also like the various options for export, which include Word, clipboard, Txt, PDF or SRT.

Vorteile:

I like how easy it is to use. Their creation of the transcript is relatively quick.

Nachteile:

I have to edit through the words that are interpreted wrong, which takes some time.
