Even if you use another tool, you have Redmine to thank

Kommentare: Our marketing teams felt overwhelmed by the complexity if Jira. We just couldn't make it work. Redmine, however, with a set of agile plugins, allowed us to have a true kanban board and implement really robust scrum workflows using Redmine. It was a tremendous experience and really helps us tackle our weekly tasks.

Vorteile:

Being an open source project, Redmine has driven out the excess costs from project management and issue tracking software. Almost every other enterprise software project has to keep in mind that their customers can always choose a free and highly customizable read mine installation as an alternative, so Redmine makes the entire ecosystem more robust. What I really like the most is the low overhead for the server so that you can run a very large installation for hundreds or thousands of users on a low cost EC2 instance with extremely good performance. Checkout AWS LightSail if you want AWS specifically. If you're on a tight budget and want something implemented quickly, Redmine is the way to go. There are even hosted solutions out there like Plan.io that take away all the technical requirements for you.

Nachteile:

Out of the box, you will need to get a better skin and probably customize a lot of the UI to make it look more visually appealing. The overall design a Redmine feels a little dated now, so you will need to download other themes or probably purchase a paid one to make it feel more modern and usable.

Versatility = Redmine as Bug Tracker/Project Manager

Kommentare: Redmine is my de-facto BTS every company I go. I am very happy with its stability, versatility and easy to use for the end user.

Vorteile:

Redmine is a powerful Bug tracker system with such a flexibility that you can use it as your CMS if you want. There is a ton of plugins to install. You can use Redmine as a CRM, ERP, Payroll, etc... as long as the community around it can imagine a use case, it will exist. There are some paid services which customize Redmine to run as a full ERP, but I have no experience with them.

Nachteile:

The installation process can be a pain for novices: You have to prepare your VM installing Ruby, then Ruby Gems and others gems to make advances functions to work. The source control system interface is good, but hard to install and configure. You will have better luck if you download a Bitnami VM or an AWS Appliance Image. There is a Docker image as wall, but I have no experience with it.

Alternative for JIRA

Kommentare: I was working with Redmine for about a year and a half and I have to admit - it wasn't as good as I would have liked. One of its biggest advantages is the low price of the app (compared to market alternatives). Customer service was good and helpful - each time I had a problem, someone resolved it quite quickly. Also, Redmine has a huge number of features and plugins that can be added and used with it but...
A lot of these plugins are outdated or abandoned. I had a couple of problems with them (usually didn't want to work as expected). Because of that, integration with external apps may be problematic, especially if a user chooses some less-known software. To tell the truth, the number of plug-ins does not come close to the number of plug-ins created for apps of its biggest market competitors. The community gathered around Redmine is not so big compared to other existing management solutions. And the last thing and in my opinion the biggest disadvantage of Redmine - the design. The app feels outdated and clumsy. A lot of elements are not visible or they are blending with nearby elements. It is easy to mistake one project for another, especially if they are named similarly.
To sum up, it is a good solution if you have a rather small company with a small number of projects and don't want to pay much for a Project Management tool. If not, I would choose any of the competitors.

Great Open Source Ticketing Tool

Flexible Project Management

Kommentare: We're customized Redmine to support several aspects of our IT business. Its made it easy to departmentalize things such as Change Requests, Active Directory Request and General Ticket. We've even integrated it into a Self Serve IT tool we recently launched. Its branched several moved pieces together.

Vorteile:

Redmine supports countless user created plugins. This provides a lot of potential for how Redmine can be used. In our case, we customized Redmine to function as an inexpensive IT Change Management / Ticketing Tool.

Nachteile:

Slight learning curve at first. But Redmine has a lot of forums available, so any challenge you face or feature you may struggle with surely has a forum post about it. I always found the solution to my problem before long.

It's good but old

Free task management tool

It is not very robust, it does not allow me to control state changes with conditions or programming, it does not allow me to create dependencies between tasks that allow me to have a specific project

Clean and organized tool for project planning

Vorteile:

The layout and navigation within Redmine is super easy to pickup and learn. Lots of little feature capabilities that are handy when managing development/it tasks.

Nachteile:

Some little quirks around uploading images and files I ran into, but easily worked around that by just changing the way I would add them. Most likely just an end user error rather than software error.

A cheap option for time tracking management

Free Project Management

Kommentare: Redmine provides a simple and easy to use tracking and project management software system all built into one. Redmine's issue tracking or ticketing system gives developers a fast and flexible tool to address issues with the software. The tool can also be used to track projects and to "chunk" projects into smaller bite-sized sub-projects that increase productivity and help members of a team keep up to date with the progress of a project. I've used Redmine with teams and found that the collaborative nature of the product can help members stay in touch and help with assigning subtasks. As a scrum manager, I found that it helps greatly in sprint planning and reporting. Also, you can generate Gant charts to visually show where a project is at any time. The best part of Redmine is that it's open sourced and given some customization, you can quickly create a ticketing and/or program management that helps meet the needs of different members of a team. Redmine is also free to use, which makes it popular with small and large organizations that don't have vast budgets for software purchases.

Vorteile:

1. Open-source (free) 2. Easy to use (once it's been customized) 3. Flexible (can be customized to your needs) 4. Multi-purposed (serve different roles at the same time)

Nachteile:

1. Requires someone to administrate it. 2. Requires installation, but a cloud based version is available.

Good open source ticketing software

Kommentare: A useful ticketing system as well as a time tracking system for free, as it is open source.

Vorteile:

I used this software in two companies that had it customized to their needs. So the possibility to customize features to fit the company workflow seems to be properly working. We used the time tracking feature to know which part of a project was taking more time than planned. The ticket's features are very useful for teamwork as you can see who worked on what task and when. You can also easily add documents attached to the task, and even write some Wiki for projects that may need it.

Nachteile:

Redmine can be quite complicated to use, for one not used to software like this. For example we used to open parts of the software for clients when we were doing fine tuning on applications and websites, and often the client needed a small training to be able to create ticket and answer questions on the ticket.

Redmine is good for issue and bug management, but do not use it for anything else

Kommentare: In our company, it has been in use as the main project management and configuration management tool. The experience is horrible, only useful for very small projects with little or no updates. To supplement some of its lacking features a reporting tool has been used, but the day-to-day use is horrible both for the team and management.

Vorteile:

Simple, straightforward. Good ticket management for bug-fixing or maintenance phases.

Nachteile:

All project management-related aspects are invalid. Gantt tool is a nightmare. The Edition of the existing plan is a nightmare. Resource management is flawed.

Manage your projects

Kommentare: I use this tool daily for the control of tasks and hours dedicated to the projects in which I participate. This allows managers to have a global vision of how many resources are spent for a particular project and to make the best decisions for the business.

Vorteile:

You can manage projects easily and efficiently, it allows you to control metrics such as estimated time spent by teams or by individual, you can create tasks and follow up on specific project functionalities and then you can get reports of time spent for each category in the project and this allows to make better informed decisions for the business.

Nachteile:

The user experience design should be improved since sometimes the functionalities of the tool are not intuitive and this causes some time to be wasted.

Very good and robust ticket system

Kommentare: I am using Redmine since 4 years now on a small virtual server which has now problem serving 30 power users with about 20% cpu load. Redmine has everything you need if you are looking for a ticket system. I use it for my advanced software engineering classes and for all my other projects, too. This system has never let me down. You can customize workflows, ticket types, extra field and there is a great community with a lot of plugins for special needs. I can absolutely recommend this system.

Vorteile:

Easy to install and maintain. Easy configuration. Does not require a lot of hardware to run.

Nachteile:

Looks a bit outdated but I don't do many updates.

Kommentare: Redmine has become our daily driver in terms of project management and we cannot do without it nowadays.

Vorteile:

Redmine is easy to use and great for onboarding clients and staff. It is able to prioritize our work and helps clients to see the project roadmap and development cycle at a glance.

Nachteile:

It was a little difficult to get it up and running, but once you do, you don't have to ever touch it again.

Amazing tool for E2E Project Management

Vorteile:

Free tool to use Agile (SDLC) process and also ease to document the bugs. Large size files can share and quick response and it can be integrated with Jira for internal use. Dashboard with customizing feature helps to monitor project activities

Nachteile:

Sprint wise planning cant be done easily. Project wise quality reports or measurement reports can't be generated and also Unfortunately some useful features are missing. For example, you cannot edit created defects or tasks, only write comments to them.

Vorteile:

Simplicity is Redmine's strength by far. It's got a no-frills interface and everything is fairly straightforward and easy to navigate.

Nachteile:

It's a little feature-lacking compared to some of the other platforms that do the same thing. I definitely find myself frustrated by the search feature for instance.

A versatile bug tracking system

Kommentare: This is a good tool for managing projects. Almost all the project workflow has been merged into this tool: we can also generate automated changelogs and time-tracking reports. It has a plugin repository where you can find some useful extensions, like a template manager for writing issues based on a specific format. We take advantage of its API to notify when a task is delayed, or to give the end-user a voice, so he can write the tickets directly into our platform.

Vorteile:

The most important thing is its simplicity: from the configuration to the end-user usage, everything is easy and practical to setup and start writing issues. It acan be integrated against LDAP-based authentication systems. The workflow of the issues can be configured easily in the admin panel. Its interface can be changed using templates where you can put your own logo and relevant information regarding your business logic.

Nachteile:

The set-up was very difficult, but it can be easily achieved installing with docker images. Due its simplicity, the business logic may not be described in terms of the application, so complex workflows may need light modifications to be compatible with the Redmine platform. Readmine doesn't handle agile tools like Scrum or Kanban boards, so if you or your company uses agile methodologies, Redmine may not fit your business workflow. Of course, you can extendend to agile if you purchase or install extensions, but it doesn't support it natively.

Good application for project management and issue tracking

Vorteile:

We use this application for the management and tracking of issues of an opensource software. We collaborate in 3 companies and I must say that everything works perfectly.

Nachteile:

While I prefer Redmine to Easy Redmine, here too I believe that the same thing applies to Redmine too, a more intuitive interface would be needed.

Perfect value for money

Kommentare: I like this app. It is quiet old looking but things getting better in-time. Perfect for lower budget organizations.

Vorteile:

App contains lots of different features for issue tracking and management. You can provide lots of details in issue. Also time tracking and expenses feature are perfect.

Nachteile:

This app is very good for low budget projects. You can get better alternative but mostly for more money. The UI looks a bit old and it can be a bit harder to find some feature.

Great tool for organizing projects

Not only is it helpful to keep track of everything that you have going on, but it can also let your boss easily see what you're working on without having to ask. It is also highly collaborative which is helpful for us as our office has locations in multiple different states.
