Amazing solution

The pricing is the most attractive aspect. Don't get me wrong, the app is very good and reliable.
Nachteile:
Nothing comes to mind. The software does what it advertises.
Set it and Forget it Backup
Kommentare: We are in times when ransomware is very popular, and backing up your servers is critical. XSIBackup takes care of that.
Vorteile:
You set up your backup jobs, set the time to execute the backup, and just enjoy. You get an email report about every job with clear info. You can backup locally and remotely. The price is acceptable for the value you are getting. Support staff is also very quick and helpful if you need anything.
Nachteile:
It is fairly simple to install and activate the product, but if you are new to esxi shell, it will look a bit complicated.
Terminated our license for saying we were going to post this review
Kommentare: XSI-Backup has been a headache since we purchased it one month ago. Spent the first week trying to license the software through their non-functioning licensing functionality on their website. Finally (seems to be owner of this one-man shop) [SENSITIVE CONTENT] had to finally hand-generate the license key for us. Next week was consumed on their support forum trying to resolve why backups would crash at approximately 30%. Two weeks in and it seemed to be sort of working, but backups were excruciatingly slow at less than 10MB/s. And this is from an SSD to a 225MB/s platter disk. This owner/tech consistently displayed a bad and condescending attitude. For level setting purposes, I’ve been working at the UNIX/Linux shell level for four decades and I make my living leading my company of 30+ years as an Enterprise Applications Architect, leading multi-million dollar technology projects for enterprise clients. After finally getting XSI-Backup working, albeit at a snail’s pace, for about a week, they released a summer promotion to purchase a 4-seat license for only $50 more than what we’d paid for our single seat license. The 4-seat license was also for a higher tier license (more features). Since we’d just purchased our license, we asked that we could purchase the promotion and receive credit for our payment already made. We were flatly refused any consideration at all and were told our sole option was to purchase addition normal priced seats at 3.5 times the final price with the promotion.
Vorteile:
Affordable Shell scriptable Seemed like a useful solution to backing up critical VMs.
Nachteile:
Unconscionable customer service and support attitude and conduct. Representative got angry and terminated our license out of hand. Slowww performance Buyer Beware - Buyer Beware - Buyer Beware. This is an individual selling software for critical business infrastructure, while operating with the business acumen and ethics of a 14 year old child. His conduct has certainly caused our company injury. After spending a month on integrating XSI-Backup into our infrastructure, it’s going to take at least that long to source and integrate an alternative solution, costing us countless man hours.

We are happy to serve our customers, we do not tolerate threats, blackmailing and insults though. Thus in the exercise of our right and for the first time in 7 years we refunded this person's money and cancelled his license. The dispute was artificially generated out of thin air, we do not know the reasons for that to happen though. He doesn't even identify himself properly and hides behind an initial. We offer fully functional versions of our software so that everybody can be 100% sure of what they're buying before paying.

I would improve the documentation and manuals.

Vorteile:
As a linux admin this software is very intuitive, easy to use and importantly lightweight. Some of the alternatives we considered mean't we'd have to run additional VMs or Windows servers in order to facilitate backups. Being a Mac & Linux focused company this was far from ideal for us, being able to run the backups directly from inside ESXi's shell was a far better solution.
Nachteile:
I don't wish to sound too cliché but there really isn't that much I don't like or feel should be included, the one element if I had to pick anything would be that I feel the logging amount to file could be improved. This is possibly the one area where it's lacking in terms of the amount of data logged and how user understandable it is. Admittedly this is a very minor point especially when in our experience the support team have been excellent when help has been needed.

Great way to back up ESXi virtual machines
Kommentare: I use XSIBackupDC to back up 4 ESXi hosts, storage of VMs ranges from 1.5TB up to 4.5TB. Overall it has worked fine, although I have run into occasional issues. Each version has been better. Tech support is reasonable, considering I'm in the US and they are in Europe (Spain, I believe).
Vorteile:
Easy to use - As long as you are comfortable with command line apps, XSIBackup is easy to use Efficient - Built-in deduplication means that storage for backups can be significantly less than the total backups. It also means that multiple copies of backups take up much less space. Status output is useful when monitoring status of job. Email notification at end of job has useful information. Can back up VMs even if powered on.
Nachteile:
No real logging ability - the status output is good for a person watching, but if you want to write to a log file, it's very hard to parse when trying to determine what went on. Email notification is not sent if the job fails for any reason. Verification of backup storage doesn't always detect underlying issues.

We are constanlty improving our software, the output of our latest editions has improved significantly with a log file excluvively dedicated to errors. It's always hard to locate relevant messages in a log file though. Thank you so much for your feedback, we will take it into account. Update 2021: We have changed the behaviour of the e-mail reporting feature so that it sends a report on program termination. This allows to collect lower level errors too.
I'm glad to use XSIBackup (Free version ... under these conditions I do not wait for the 20 € )

I I am using XSIBackup for 3 VMWare servers installed in a micro datacenter.
As I use VMWare in its free version, I was looking for a hot virtual machine backup solution. Of course I wanted to find a free solution as well. I found XSIBAckup on Google. So I immediately set up the product.
Everything fits exactly as I wanted. I therefore create backup images of virtual machines in a partition on the DATASTORE disk and I developed a procedure which will look for the image from a Windows workstation to repatriate the images created daily to a Backup server.
Everything works very well. After the images are retrieved, another job checks the log files to detect error messages. If an error is detected, I receive an email to announce the problem.
At the end of the day if nothing has been detected, I receive a positive email telling me that nothing is in error.
Everything suits me very well as it is now. The low amount of VM allows me to continue with these free products. If I grow the size of my business, I will probably have to switch to paid products to improve performance.
Vorteile:
I appreciate that there is a free version of XSIBackup, that it does hot VM backups ... I found the product easy to install and customizable.
Nachteile:
I would like a slightly faster version but this is not imperative. If there were additional procedures to transfer VMs once backed up to another medium that would be great.

XSIBackup just works. Easy to install and operate. Reliable backup for VMs.
Nachteile:
Scheduling backups can be challenging - this is also a VMware issue.
Backups / Replicas done right
Vorteile:
The easy to install and put everything in motion. We use the software to have VM replicas on different hosts to speed up some disaster recovery scenarios, and it works perfect.
Nachteile:
The documentation is missing some use cases, with more examples, and it should be more accesible.

XSI works great with VMWare ESXI free version - I am not aware of others that work at all.
Nachteile:
Documentation could use more examples and be organized more centrally.

Solución completa, económica y fiable para sacar backups locales o remotos de nuestras máquinas virtuales. Copias rápidas, fiables y restauraciones inmediatas. Bien documentado en la web, con ejemplos claros para distintas situaciones.
Nachteile:
Lo que menos nos gusta es la interface de menús tipo MS-DOS, pero su funcionamiento compensa con creces este inconveniente

We know an nCurses GUI is not very attractive when compared to a full fledged window environment. Still, its only reason of being is easing deployment of jobs. A cut down environment such as a hypervisor can't run a window system. The alternative is to use an appliance, still the main advantage we offer is precisely that our software runs in the hypervisor itself.
Good software idea, terrible software implementation
Kommentare: Bad experience. Never saw a complete backup of all my VMs on the NAS mounted volume.
Vorteile:
I like the fact of launching backups directly from the VMWare OS, without the addition of new VM or a software running on any of the currently deployed machines. Also, the plus of having working images created from realtime live snapshots of the VM.
Nachteile:
Heavily dependant on the VMWare version you have deployed, with few update cycles and maintenance. I was unable to make it work stable on VMWare 6.7.0U2 using NAS mounted backup volume. I always finished with 100% CPU usage due to halted backup process. User interface is poorly designed, and is a huge mess to change backup options. Almost impossible to get deep information about what is happening during or after the backup (even knowing if the backup work has already finished).

ESXi introduced changes in the way the command line behaved, it took some time to fully adapt our software to them. We always recommend not using the latest version of an OS in production to avoid hitting bugs and incompatibility issues. ESXi 6.7U2 had just been released. All other clients, including big multinationals and institutions worldwide are using the software flawlessly, we were never able to obtain consistent feedback from our support department in this case. We are constantly releasing new versions and our response time is almost immediate, that is something very easy to fact check. This is command line software with an nCurses GUI aimed at easing deployment of long commands, you can't expect a full fledged windows UI on a constrained Linux shell, nor can command line usage be ignored. 100% CPU utilization could be due to some incompatibility issue or hardware related problem. XSIBackup is well known for being extremely low footprint software.

Kommentare: Lo he descubierto en la empresa que trabajaba anteriormente, buscando algo economico para backupear mis Vm's y me encontré con un producto excelente, muy liviano(unos cuantos MB) y rápido.
Vorteile:
Realiza todas las funciones necesarias de un soft de backup de las primeras marcar con un costo bajisimo en relacion al producto.
Nachteile:
Siendo una empresa española, toda la documentacion está en ingles, deberia estar en español tambien.

XSI Backup is a great product, it doesn't require any external Windows systems or expensive licences and once you get it set up it runs smoothly and does its job without fuss.

Thank you so much for your feedback. You are right, we had to change the license key format and that has caused you unnecessary inconvenience when upgrading to new versions. We will hopefully keep this new format for quite long, thus updating keys won't be neccessary in the future.

Software for creating backups of VMWare ESXi
Kommentare: It's in use for 3 years in our company and so far we are not thinking about stop using it.
Vorteile:
- Use it globally - Have unlimited numer of installations - Backups for unlimited numer of machines - Lifetime upgrades
Nachteile:
Nothing comes to my mind, in general it was a good decision.

A virtualization hypervisor is not a full OS, it is in fact an extremely cut down command line environment. The limitations you observe aren't really due to our software but the concept itself.
Works fine!
Vorteile:
In use for over two years on 3 esxi-machines - no problems!
Nachteile:
Small tool for daily security/backup... Price-performance ist very well!!!
