Kommentare: There aren't a lot of choices in this space so we're kind of stuck with EDD. It works. It does a lot of you're willing to pony up. I'm just not impressed with the backend at all anymore. It's powerful but couldn't it be a little friendlier?

Vorteile:

Creating a download using Easy Digital Downloads for WordPress is in fact easy to do. Add a download, set a price, limit stock, add tags and categories if desired, hit publish. There it is. However, see below. The free version does allow two payment gateways: PayPal basic and Amazon Payments. Any site owner other than a hobbyist will want to upgrade. There are a myriad of integrations and extension for making EDD more powerful and lots of support from dozens of companies. EDD is the standard are there are no lack of solutions.

Nachteile:

I've yet to have a client who understood the relationship between the set up on the backend and the results on the frontend. Most can create downloads and then wonder, well, now what? The Now What? is definitely for WordPress pros because the plugin, curiously, has no onboarding of any kind, no tooltips, no inline documentation. It's kind of up to the user to figure out WTH is going on. Such as, how does anyone buy anything? This confusion is good for WP implementers like me but it seems a little primitive considering some of the sophisticated onboarding systems plugin authors have been able to build recently. Also, all the extensions and their interactions can get confusing. And very expensive. The Personal Pass, the cheapest subscription, is not cheap.

EDD is the only choice for Digital Products vs Others

Kommentare: We are using the EDD for almost 5+ years and using it continuously. We never face any issues related to Security, Product Management. Only I have concerns related to Return order management and sometimes the Extension related issues from 3rd party vendors. But overall it's worth it to use for Medium scale businesses.

Vorteile:

EDD has everything you need for Digital Products. They have lots of Extensions which are suitable for your Product needs. Thumbs up for these - Easy Interface, Reports, Order Management, Review, Product Management, Discounts, SEO.

Nachteile:

Maybe Migration from WooCommerce or any other Digital Store needs a workaround for EDD. The pricing is somehow expensive for those who just started out their career or a small business owner. But it also depends on your business strategies.

Worst Checkout Experience Ever

Vorteile:

It is very stable and reliable in terms of license management and product delivery.

Nachteile:

easy digital downloads is a software that lets you create and sell digital products but if you look at how the whole checkout experience is built and works from the customer point of view then you'll easily see that the makers totally forgot about the most important part the checkout experience. On a scale from 1 to 10 the checkout experience is a 1 it's that bad. Furthermore, no cross sells and upsells engine that works well enough so that it can be used and the product upgrade feature also is very low quality. Not having the ability to design a great looking and highly converting checkout experience made us loose a lot of revenue over the years. They practically forgot to build the most important part of the app.

Easy Digital Downloads Review

Kommentare: I have been using this plugin since 2014. My experience overall has been great. Bought the Amazon S3 and Mailchimp plugins to improve my store. I used mostly to sell video specials and using paypal only as a payment method.
Renewing the license every year might be quite expensive, even with the discount for old customers.
A cheaper basic license with one-time purchase for small businesses would be great

I liked the easy integration with WordPress and being able to customize from the very beginning without no previous knowledge.

Nachteile:

I think it's quite expensive when you want to add some of the addons available after installing the free plugin

Kommentare: Overall, my experience with Easy Digital Downloads has been fantastic. On occasion, I will run into an issue where I need to reach out to their support staff for help. Every time they have been very helpful, and stuck with the issue until it was resolved.

Vorteile:

What first turned me on to Easy Digital Downloads was the ease of use when getting my store set up. In just a few minutes I was able to have a fully functional online store - all for free. As the store grew, and my needs evolved, it was easy to find add-ons that enhanced my store's functionality. Over time I've set up several stores with Easy Digital Downloads, and it has always been an easy process to get everything up and running.

Nachteile:

At first, I didn't like that I had to purchase several add-ons for things like my preferred payment gateway, email provider integration, and a number of other features. The thing I didn't like about that was that I felt cornered into using a certain 3rd party provider whether that was for email marketing, or payments, since I already spent money on an add-on to integrate with those providers. However, as Easy Digital Downloads has evolved as a company, their offerings have changed to provide their customers with all access passes, which gives us access to every product they offer. Now for one, very affordable price, I have access to all of their add-on plugins and don't feel like I'm tied to any one product.

Sell Digital Products & Services with Ease

Kommentare: We were able to offer subscriptions and service purchases via both PayPal and Stripe with a minimal time and financial investment. EDD offers a whole host of extensions, which causes the plugin to be extensible by design. We have taken advantage of multiple extensions to avoid the cost of building these things ourselves. But also, we have been able to further leverage the extensibility of EDD and build our own customizations to refine the buying experience for our customers. It's been a huge part of our business for 5+ years and I couldn't imagine trying to achieve the same results without the assistance of EDD (and their support team along the way).

Vorteile:

The two biggest reasons I chose EDD was the Stripe integration and the recurring/subscription integration. Having a pre-built solution for these two things is a huge win.

Nachteile:

Admittedly, several of our products are services and not in the realm of typical for EDD. This has presented some challenges in integrating with our back-end systems. But that also points to one of the amazing things about EDD, it's extensibility.

Building e-commerce for a Professional Photography Hi-Res Backgrounds and tutorials site

Vorteile:

Integration with Wordpress, Dropbox. All Access opportunities. The developers are always adding new things. I appreciate that they are looking at how to service customers.

Nachteile:

The shop setups aren't really that user friendly. Both for the administrator and for the customers. We've had to jerry-rig our site to work in the least difficult way for customers and we still encounter issues. Not having the ability to show categories, tags, or even have a search of the product has proven to be difficult to do. Also, I haven't found an easy way to set up coupons that allow for when you spend this amount of $$ you get this amount of a discount or even a buy one of this product get another of the same product free. Also, dropdowns to add products to the manual purchase on mobile-only show about 20 products. Makes it really difficult to do things while on the go. One other thing is that if we wanted to use our site to interface with clients that order prints, we wouldn't be able to use Easy Digital Downloads. We've had to use PhotoBiz instead.

The Best Software Out There for Digital E-Commerce

EDD is easy to use and the customer flow is simple/reliable.

Nachteile:

It doesn't easily integrate into many Wordpress themes (at least to look good).

EDD is helpful for freelance but overpriced

Vorteile:

I use EDD because I am a transcriptionist and operate a transcription service through my wordpress app. I found this to be more applicable than woocommerce for my particular situation.

Nachteile:

The pricing is outrageous especially to add of simple features. The high-cost extra features are crazy over priced. It doesn't function with other plugins and basic wordpress features as well as woocommerce does.

Need to improve the style of the checkout page

The checkout page the most important page to close the deal needs to be improved in style. It is not inviting to customers to close. May be less information required or sorted in tabs. I would consider to create some templates for users to choose

more settings needed in some sections

Kommentare: I'm missing the option for changing things on my own. I know the extension library, but what about a forum where I can ask some questions...

Vorteile:

After setting up the site with a custom service everthing is running nearly as it should.

Nachteile:

There are some extensions with lack of development. 1. reviews extension: The vendors get no emails, if someone is commenting their products! 2. wishlist extenison: Would like to show puplic wishlists in a public page to all users. There is an option, that does not work. EDD support is contacted, but they say EDD 3.0 has to be done first??? 3. FES extension: No settings to change the email subjects?

Self-taught WordPress developer and owner of an online stock footage website

Kommentare: It is the first platform that I am introduced to after installing WordPress and the first thing that I learned hand to hand with WordPress. I see the logic and I like the simplicity about that platform...maybe if there were more lessons for it..more ready to use bundles for example stock website for photographs - here are the needed products, themes, plugins, and settings...enjoy...for e-books..for membership..for freelancers platform for selling services and so on.

Vorteile:

It's simple to use and specially designed for selling digital products from my website. This is what I've been looking for. All the YouTube tutorials point to this platform ti be best for digital goods.

Nachteile:

It's very hard to find addons that are compatible with this platform. For a beginner (as I am) it is hard to understand why something is not working properly even when the plugins are designed for this platform..sometimes there are conflicts. Not many plugins are made for this platform and the only option to find the right plugin is with trial and error.

It's in their name after all...

Kommentare: Overall, we love EDD for ease of use and customizability, and how it's extendable for third party features or plugins. Prices are reasonable for everything we get, we especially like the bundles they have now. Support has also been great for us over the years as well, no complaints! I would definitely recommend EDD over WC anyday!

We've been using EDD for years now and loved how easy it was to implement and to customize vs WooCommerce. We're excited to see what EDD 3.0 brings and what the future holds for EDD. We've also purchased several other Sandhills Development plugins intandem with EDD (like affiliates) so that we can have a proper storefront that fits all our needs.

Nachteile:

There are some extensions that need to be updated for 2020. EDD 3.0 has taken years away from doing any meaningful new features. Some extensions don't quite work as well we had hoped with all themes either, so there's definitely some work that could be improved there. Responsiveness on different device types could be better as well.

Simple to Set Up and Operate by Non-Programmer

Kommentare: Has been great. Does what it needs to do and very easy to operate. Has paid for itself many times over. Implemented customer reviews a couple of years ago, which has improved sales.

Since I only sell a handful of digital products (spreadsheet templates), I wanted something simple and inexpensive, but effective. EDD fit the bill. When I started using it 5 years ago, it was a little buggy, but it now pretty bulletproof and has a lot more features and add-ons.

Nachteile:

When first launched several years ago, I got too many sales that did not complete for one reason or another, but this is no longer a problem. Biggest issues has been integrating with 3rd-party email program. Somewhat tricky for non-programmer.

The Only Solution For Digital Product Selling

Kommentare: It works just how you'd expect it to, and with very little effort. The hardest bit was finding the shortcodes to setup a members area. But other than this one area, everything is just as good as you could expect.

Vorteile:

So easy to use. Unlike WooCommerce, EDD doesn't sell you extensions that appear to come from WooCommerce directly but turn out to be from 3rd parties. Likewise, EDD actually does what it says it will and it does it quickly and easily. WooCommerce on the other hand gets you to buy numerous extensions only for you to find out that you can't actually sell a subscription pass for subscription based products. With EDD every combination is possible with very little work required.

Nachteile:

It's a little bit expensive for a new store.

Decent quick solution to start selling digital products online

Kommentare: Overall, this is a good simple and quick solution for anyone looking to sell digital items online. I installed this plugin fairly quickly and didnt have any major problems.
I have had a number of successful sales since using the solution.

Vorteile:

I installed this solution as a plugin on a Wordpress website and found it was easy to do and could quickly sell digital products online. Simple integration if you use Paypal. Have not encountered any errors since I installed.

Nachteile:

On WordPress there will be development needed to make the download pages match your theme, particularly if you have a custom WordPress theme. No options to adjust image sizing for product images.

Easy Digital Downloads - Selling Policy Manuals

Kommentare: Customer Service is excellent, and they reply quickly and assist in problem solving to determine if problem with EDD or another plug-in or other (such as payment gateway)

Vorteile:

EDD was easy to setup and add products to my store. It was easy to establish "Terms of Sale" as selling Policy Manuals that are at a higher price point. I also use a number of add-ons that are available , so after using EDD for several years on the "free" version, I elected to upgrade to the version that allows "all access" to add-ons.

Nachteile:

I haven't found a downside. I also use Restrict Content Pro on the same website for selling memberships and protecting content. It integrates very well.

Best way to sell Digital Goods and Services

Best modular online shop

Kommentare: Before I used Gumroad and Selz but their system lacked of feature regarding licensing. Providing a license key and being hable to edit and or revoke it was allowed thanks to EDD

Vorteile:

The core itself is easy to use , and lot of interesting dlc are ready for use. I moved to EDD especially for their Licensing System. Perfect for software development

Nachteile:

Love the modularity. Especially licensing ! Would like a TwoFactorAuthentification protection for administration

Best WordPress plugin to sell digital products

Kommentare: I have been using EDD for last 5 years for my online stores which sells templates. I still do not find a better alternative :) Their support team is amazing. Sometimes the plugin owner him self reply when a question is asked.

Awesome Software with Good Customer Support

Kommentare: I am using Easy Digital Downloads together with Software Licensing add-on for license key generation & management (activation/deactivation). It works pretty well and is easy to use. I have explored other options but have decided to choose EDD for ease of use and cost-effectiveness.

Vorteile:

Easy Digital Downloads is easy to use and free. I have been using it for 6 years now and do not have problems.

Nachteile:

I cannot think of what I like least about this software. It is working well for my digital downloads store.

Doesn't work as advertised and your files aren't protected

Kommentare: My overall experience is poor because the product does not function as advertised and leaves all your files unprotected. I hope I can change my review in the future, but currently I can't recommend EDD ot anyone.

Vorteile:

EDD has lots of great features and in theory should be a great off the shelf purchase for Wordpress users looking to create an online digital store.

Nachteile:

Unfortunately EDD doesn't work as advertised, and all downloads sold on your site can easily be accessed for free by anyone without an account on your side. Files are not protected despite what is described on EDD's website, which has the potential to lead to large decreases in revenue for your site. I'd love to give this product a great review, but in its current form the plugin doesn't actually function as described. Customer service is prompt, however they are quite selective in how they respond to queries, and often seem to ignore information or requests that they don't want to answer. When I contacted them about the above issue, they answered part of my query but avoided a couple of other questions I asked that impact the ability to integrate the tools on my site.

It is a little bit confusing on how to customize the design of the checkout.

Selling downloads with this software makes the solopreneur adventure affordable and realistic.

Vorteile:

Having a tool designed for selling video and PDF downloads has changed the way I think about my business. I love the social discount add on that allows customers to save 20% for sharing to their following. EDD allows me to dream of things that my followers can download to make their lives better without a financial risk I cannot afford to take. Linking videos hosted on Amazon S3 is great. Cross sell of related products is key too.

Nachteile:

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding and deploying strategy around the Mailchimp integration.
