A Perspective from 20 Years in Heavy Truck

Kommentare: We approach Geotab from a different perspective than many. We have been doing professional services training, implementing, and supporting Transportation Management Systems for 20 years. We have worked with all the major competitors in that time, including Qualcomm/OmniTracs, PeopleNet/Trimble, KeepTrucking/Motive, Samsara, Platform Science, Orbcomm, and others.Geotab is a unique product. We have found it is able to solve business challenges we never through possible, like fully real-time updates and alerts within seconds of a driver situation in the field or being able to re-analyze and report data in arrears months or years after the fact, like building a zone around a section of a terminal parking lot and seeing which drivers *ever* entered that space.While we still provide integration for all the major players, we have been able to create more custom solutions and solve more business challenges with Geotab than any other Telematics system to date, and we look forward to ever-increasing capabilities and features from their team.

Vorteile:

Geotab captures and aggregates real-world data like no other system we've ever seen. You can watch a truck pulling out of the parking lot in real-time or look back a year ago at exactly how a driver backed into a dock over multiple attempts. You can reconstruct what happened in an accident second-by-second, or re-evaluate all the times your drivers entered or exited a specific location over the entire history of your database on the fly.They also believe the data is *yours*, to keep and use as you see fit, and give full access to their system through a completely open API. The user interface is full-featured and simple, but beyond that, it can be modified, added to, and changed endlessly, allowing you to improve the visibility and access to information you find valuable. It is a system that is uniquely unlike any other we've used in Trucking, a true paradigm shift in the technology of Trucking, and transformative for every customer we've worked with.

Nachteile:

Their greatest strength is also their kryptonite. The features are so forward looking and Geotab is continually releasing new ones... it can be difficult to keep legacy systems up to speed with them. "Traditional" players (Qualcomm/OmniTracs, PeopleNet/Trimble) defined how data would be fed to back-end systems over 20 years ago, and most Transportation Management Systems still use those patterns today.The quality and volume of Geotab data is in a whole new league. Finding a middle ground to emulate the "Traditional" data feeds while also updating those TMS platforms to use the data available through Geotab is an ongoing challenge, but well worth the effort.

Lots of Data, but Requires Dedicated Personnel

Kommentare: We were able to become compliant with the new E-Log mandate using GeoTab as well as drive a more safer fleet with employees that understood accountability was inevitable every time they got behind the wheel.

Vorteile:

The features on the dashboard are similar to what other competitors offer, but the layout is much more user friendly. The drop downs are more organized and the navigation to different fields is smooth. I also liked the very near to real time updates to the gps locations and the ability to pull data from the vehicle's ECM such as CEL, hours, and seat belt status.

Nachteile:

Due to the vast amount of data at you finger tips its very difficult to monitor all crucial aspects as well as maintain additional responsibilities if your position requires it. I would recommend a dedicated role to benefit from the full capabilities of the software.

Geotab is a leader in the Telematics Industry

Vorteile:

Geotab covers all the needs for fleet management and tracking. Customer support is fast and reliable. I like the 3rd party intergration feature

Nachteile:

There is nothing to dislike about Geotab.

Ongoing Problems with Geotab

Vorteile:

Telematics are great. The data analytics are outstanding asset to have.

Nachteile:

Constatnt issues with cameras going on/off line, not recording, taking a lot of time to load, flipping vehicles/cameras, unable to reach cameras, poor customer service.

Why did we wait so long to use GeoTab

Kommentare: Our cmpany has been with 2 other ELD platforms, but GeoTab has been by far the best for the money.

Vorteile:

The ease of the system and the reporting capability. Real time GPS management

Nachteile:

Nothing is jumping out at me at this point.

Best telematics company around

Kommentare: couldn't ask for a better company to support our fleets needs

Vorteile:

Like the ease of use and the option to pick and choose just about anything you could think of for an add-on.

Nachteile:

GP9 still needs some software tweaks, WIFI hotspot signal keeps dropping causing issues

Solid Telematics Software Solution

Kommentare: I've been working with Geotab products for over 8 years and have seen enough successful rollouts to know that it can be tailored to meet the needs of most fleets quite well with the proper guidance. The level of customization possible with Geotab's reports, integrations, and SDK make it a solid product overall.

Vorteile:

Geotab can be customized to meet a lot of different customers' needs. My favorite part of the solution is probably the custom reporting that can be done via Excel reports to tailor the presentation of aggregated data so that it is more readable and actionable when going to various groups within organization.

Nachteile:

Geotab seems to be trending updates toward burying common functionality under more layers of options, which has made the software a bit less intuitive. I also find it difficult to find things quickly in their system ever since they removed the colors from the navigation bar and removed other visual clues that made the UX much more pleasant (I have given this three years to try to adjust and make sure this isn't a "learners curve" issue, and I believe it is still a real issue as I still have difficulty with it after all this time).

5 years of extensive and "joyful" experience with Geotab. Resource material galore & user friendly!

Kommentare: Currently, we are looking into the ability to locate a driver by employee ID when they go "off duty "in HOS.
Previously, in 2021, the Geotab customer service representative who oversees the company account conducted an onsite training/refresher with the DOT team at which time the DOT manager inquired about a way to separate light duty vehicles from regulated tractors this was a time-consuming stressor. The inquiry was addressed and resolved that same day! Huge time and money saver for the company! Geotab has stellar customer service from the initial inquiry, the resolution and always a follow up for any feedback the customer may want to provide. In person, a phone call , or an email ..Geotab will take great care of you .

Vorteile:

The plethora of resources that Geotab offers are outstanding! Geotab resources include YouTube (check out Wild Card Wednesdays, subscribe to their blog, their online community, newsletters, webinars, how-to videos and more! The resources are what I like and admire most.

Nachteile:

Honestly, I cannot state that I have any cons. I suppose I can admit that it takes a minute to adjust when my interface changes. Human nature, not a software con.

Kommentare: Overall experience is good we use this everyday to track and maintain 60 plus vehicles

Vorteile:

Able to track fleet and also see engine faults

Nachteile:

False engine light alerts in return cause more work ony end to make sure driver's are not abusing are equipment

My path using MyGeotab

Vorteile:

Solid infrastructure and vision for the future, that allow innovation

Nachteile:

Besides the company has huge experience and capabilities, it is not easy to learn from solid success cases. It looks like when we face new challenges, these are new challenges for Geotab too. However, sometimes someone at other latitudes already found a solution.

Great hardware, software is a little old-school but immensely feature-heavy

Kommentare: We could not have had so much success with our Fleet Management project without MyGeotab. We picked them because of their integrate-ability and large list of features. We have grown from 1 to 8 vehicles in the last couple of years and could not keep up without a real system. We have direct access to real-time vehicle location, get instant notification of policy violations (we didn't even have policies beforehand), and can run reports to help us make more informed business decisions regarding the fleet. Our experience with our re-seller, unfortunately, was unpleasant but that is irrelevant to the system's performance and functionality. (TIP: You can always contact Geotab Support directly if your reseller is clueless.) Nonetheless we still have been able to successfully implement the system and have already seen a significant ROI.

Vorteile:

MyGeotab has enabled our small fleet management team to more easily gain vital insights into the health and safety of our fleet (about 10 vehicles). The feature-set is immense and very broad - it can be daunting when you first get your fleet set up. We have been able to set custom rules and triggers that have allowed us to match our fleet policy. These rules, such as instant notification of speeding violations or engine codes (via Geotab Hardware), have saved us money and time in vehicle repairs and downtime.

Nachteile:

Geotab is a titan in the industry; they're the biggest name out there and they know it. However, they have lost their focus on usability. This application, for those unfamiliar with Fleet Management systems or new to the industry, is quite difficult to adopt. Fortunately, their direct Support is great (we had a troublesome, confused re-seller) and they have an expansive knowledgebase with videos and guides. We use this system in conjunction with Fleetio (direct integration!), and the difference in usability is overwhelming. I actually set up our system so that we never have to log in to MyGeotab because it's so darn hard to use and reconfigure.

GPS and power constantly disconnected, always asking for a 30 minute time off during the day, that is an american rule not Canadian. Cannot add a generic driver for when a dealership drives the truck or a mechanic drives the truck that is not part of the company

Easy to set up, easy to use (very intuitive), well organized and simple to pull up a user or unit number.

Nachteile:

Doesn't travel "with" the vehicle, so we are refreshing often to see a driver's ETA. Sometimes need to click a few times to ensure just that one unit is selected.

The software is explanatory and we are able to monitor everything we want to in regards to drivers and vehicles. We can set up alerts and notifications, about things that happen, to keep us on track with our safety goals.

Nachteile:

We have been trying to get our accounts merged into a single master account for over a year. No matter how often we reach out or try to move forward we still don't see progress.

Great Tool for Fleet Management

Kommentare: Geotab is an excellent way to track and monitor your drivers. It monitors all the analytics on the truck as well as the drivers DOT hours and ontime logs. this is a great tool.

Vorteile:

Plenty of details and graphs for everything critical to your business

Nachteile:

Can be a bit cumbersome at times trying to fix different DOT violations if there is a driver error.

Unprofessional tech

They have sent a device with suspended sim and they can’t seem to understand nor fix the problem, literally spend 5 hours on the phone and finally they can’t fix the problem and order a new device, very ignorant customer service
