Accurate Project tracking app

Kommentare: I call it the best Project control and scheduling app for construction projects.

Vorteile:

From P3 to recent version, I used this application for tracking construction projects. After setting the baseline, it is very easy to update the project, and print any report that someone may need. For example, in the company I used to work, as Project Manager consultant, I used this app to control Multi Millions dollars projects, as well as Cement Factories, Dairy Factories, even residential complex. I always use this app to start scheduling, and then for weekly and monthly reports. So easy to play around resourcing and leveling activities.

Nachteile:

Creating a baseline file is a little challenging, If you are new, you might need to redo most of your work several time.(Not as easy as MSP in correcting your files)

Satisfactory

Kommentare: I was able to use the P6 software on multi million dollar projects and it played a great role in improving the efficiency of the work and keeping track of critical deliverables

Vorteile:

I liked the P6 in particular as a Scheduling Software as it allows me to perform additional tasks which are unable on Microsoft Project. I like the part where you can bunch a group of activities to be performed by a particular resource using a unique identification code and it can be useful on big projects where a resource just needs to know his part in the overall schedule

Nachteile:

I was not happy with the software for particularly smaller projects and since there are licensing fees associated with the product it does not make sense to use it for smaller projects. Microsoft Project is a pretty decent scheduling software on its own to carry out projects and it also saves us the trouble of training people on the new software

The most complete PM solution for engineering

Kommentare: We've been using Primavera P6 for our Project Management needs and that's been working perfectly.

Vorteile:

Oracle Primavera is a comprehensive solution for Project Management needs, including features like WBS, OBS, activities, resources management, Earned Value Management and good reporting capabilities.

Nachteile:

Primavera can be complex and not intuitive for non-experienced project managers. Several functions and features are not easy to find / implement.

Necessary, but a pain!

Kommentare: I like primavera for planning. Many construction contracts and government bids require primavera planning as a mandatory planning tool for monthly report sharing, however, it is not easy to use or learn.

Vorteile:

The planning capacity of primavera is unmatched. The critical path analysis is like no other tool.

Nachteile:

The complexity of using this tool makes in extremely challenging to train people on it. People avoid this tool for that reason.

Oracle Primavera Cloud - A smart solution

Kommentare: I start using Oracle Primavera Cloud 2 years ago and the experience is getting even better, the price at the beginning could seem a bit high but the savers will make worth it.

Vorteile:

Oracle Primavera Cloud is very user-friendly, has amazing management and scheduling tools which allows good coordination between the team and also save money and time.

Nachteile:

The customer support could be improved and get more languages available.

Kommentare: I have utilised Primera for almost 26 years from P3 until Oracle Primavera Cloud.

Vorteile:

1. The most powerful tools for project scheduling 2. It integrates multi-programs and multi-projects 3. It stores historical data of detailed activities 4. Excellent for cash flow and resource analysis 5. It integrates all schedule levels from the top (monthly) to the lowest level (hourly)

Nachteile:

1. Many terms and input functions may confuse beginners. It requires training before use properly.

The power of P6

Vorteile:

I like the way it functions. The system is very stable compared to other softwares. Mainly used for scheduling and project control. Easy to see the impacts of delays and analyse them. Many tutorial available to teach the software and it is kind of straight forward

Nachteile:

Oracle have not developing a lot in the past couple of years. The layout still the same and it seems like they are not listening so much to the end users. The market is going into the direction of BIM/Lean integration. Additionally, AI is making a revolution that may soon affect the roots of Oracle. So, Oracle needs to develop and look into the market and where the competitors are heading to

Project Scheduling Software that works

Kommentare: No doubt, it's the best project scheduling tool that is available for construction industry till date. Overall I would prefer this software over any other similar software for its pros mentioned.

Vorteile:

Oracle Primavera P6 is one of the best Project Scheduling tool that works on Critical path Method. I like the following features the most - Vast integration capability with Web, EPPM, Primavera Mobile and other oracle tools - Ability to generate large amount of data especially in the form of spreadsheet - Fully functional Earned Value Management

Nachteile:

The software UI is old style and the options are not properly organised. There are some software bugs that are still persistent and oracle has been very slow in debugging them.

Precise calculations, great for complex scheduling of projects

Kommentare: I have been using Primavera for about 12 years now, and I've been training people how to use it, I've managed to train government engineers, construction contractors, engineering firms, and sponsors, it has been a great experience, the program is very precise when it comes to time, cost, resource, risk, and schedule calculations (CPM, PERT).

Vorteile:

- Great for large scale projects - Detailed scheduling with time and cost breakdown - Perfect filtering features - High level resource management functionality - Expense distribution over activity duration

Nachteile:

- Graphics are not very appealing - Jumping between tabs on the lower ribbons is very annoying compared to the tabs functionality available now on office software, and Autodesk products

Kommentare: Primavera is the most precise and capable program for detecting tampering with updates, making it essential for contract monitoring and guaranteeing the rights of contract parties. To provide accurate results and the ability to make appropriate judgments, everybody in a managerial position on a contracting project should become proficient in using these tools.

Vorteile:

Using critical path methodologies for project management, Primavera systems are known for their accuracy in determining how well a project's actual completion matches the plan. Primavera has evolved throughout the years, and the addition of new features and concepts has made it easier and more efficient to use, such as tracking resources and expenses and also sharing and storing updates over the cloud, making it a more versatile tool. Our capacity to share workflows, updates, and generate reports has been boosted by cloud connectivity. Primavera's inability to be tampered with ensures that the findings we receive are as accurate as possible. To begin, I prefer the Primavera process of creating work plans, creating a WBS, and then adding tasks with their associated Duration, Cost, Materials, and Human Resources (both direct and indirect). We obtain a lot of useful information when we update the programs, such as the percentage of total completion, the estimated completion date, and how long the project has been overdue or filed on time. I also appreciate the ability to use filters to narrow down the work schedule and perform the necessary calculations for only a portion of the project's activity. In addition, I like to alter the columns in order to provide more results.

Nachteile:

There are two reasons why Primavera is difficult to use: First, it requires extensive training and certification. Second, it's too expensive for even large corporations to expand their membership. Another issue is that it may appear complicated, as other Oracle systems do, due to the emphasis it places on outcomes rather than aesthetics. This can be a problem for some users, who may also be afraid to use it. If you're not an expert in Excel or other similar software, you'll have a hard time exporting and importing data from them.

Oracle Primavera Cloud: A Cost-Effective Project Management Solution Compared to Primavera P6

Kommentare: Very good experience. It gave my students a great edge in project management along with their CS senior project design and implementation. Definitely the responsibility of having a professional project management software with formalized schedules and due dates has improved the quality of delivery of the projects in this course.

Vorteile:

I always rely on Primavera to handle the project management tasks of the Senior Project course I teach for undergraduate CS students. This 2 birds in one stone aspect that allows students to keep track of their project progress and involves them in a professional project management environment that they will surely need later on in their career. The main advantage of OPC is that it is a cloud-based solution that reduces a lot the cost of its use compared to the traditional Primavera P6 software. Depending on the resources available we used to alternate among using other solutions such as Microsoft Project and Monday.com. Primavera definitely is leading in the Project Management field and it aided a lot in improving the quality of the senior projects delivered in the course.

Nachteile:

Two main things: (1) the cost is a bit restrictive especially in an academic setting and (2) the learning curve is a bit steep for undergraduate students to acquire in a one/two semester senior project course.

Tool of the Future

Kommentare: The software described here is ORACLE PRIMAVERA CLOUD, which more than a tool, it is a platform that combines different tools for different needs, addressing different domains of Enterprise Project Portfolio management.
Even the shared video is describing the first implementation of this tool in Europe (lead by me and a colleague).
People commenting here are talking about Primavera P6 which is a tool dedicated mainly to schedule and resource management. Eventually Risk Management if combined with Primavera Risk Analysis (other tool).
In fact, the tool was called Oracle Prime until 2019 and this rebranding lead to an obvious confusion. The problem with this is that some remarks about the interface not having an appealing look and not being intuitive are for P6.

Vorteile:

This is the most modern and broader project management platform in the market, still combining very powerful and some unique tools

Nachteile:

This is still a young tool, and of course still has features that are currently under fast development

This product allows me to work with people who work in different segmentation in our industry seamlessly on each and every project. It's so easy.. its a no brainer really. Approval processes are easy, everything is simple. If there is ever any kind of issue it has been resolved with in moments of reaching out to tech support. I also was able to teach myself this program which is always a bonus.

Nachteile:

Exporting software to other platforms is hard. for our all employee meetings it is difficult to show some processes and such with ease. A mobile platform would also be beneficial to our company

Kommentare: All in all, P6 is a great product to use for programs and projects.

Vorteile:

P6 does a great job in managing schedule for large programs and projects. P6 gets very powerful as you cost load your schedules and use data to construct reports and dashboards.

Nachteile:

P6 can get pretty complicated with their functionalities. P6 can use a better printable report for schedules.

A One-Stop Shop in Project Management

Kommentare: As stated above, this tool is great as project management software. The time tracking capability was so easy to implement and met our companies needs, that we used it throughout.

Vorteile:

The software seems straight forward and easy to use. Our company used it across our whole organization for time tracking, as that was such a useful feature. There are many more components that can be used in various project collaboration, as well as customizations to the software that can be made through coding.

Nachteile:

As far as using it as a time entry tool, the interface does seem a little overdone, more like a glorified spreadsheet. I sometimes get the feeling "what's all this?" when I just want to enter time.

Oracle Primavera

Kommentare: Excellent tool. As a project scheduler I could not do my job without it. Although you could use other products, Primavera is the best.

Nachteile:

It needs to be able to print a report that shows the Predecessors and Successors in a better format.

Vorteile:

It is driven by data, which is good as long as you feed it the correct information. It is pretty simple and easy to use.

Nachteile:

There are not a lot of additional benefits. It would be nice if it had graphics, or other newer-age technology uses.

Primavera

Vorteile:

It is an industry leading standard for CPM construction that does not materially change between updates.

Nachteile:

It is not user friendly if you have not used similar CPM scheduling software before.

Dependable Planning and Scheduling

Kommentare: Very reliable and convenient to use specially the interfacing between Prism G2 and this software. In just one click of a button data are transferred instantly and assigned to the proper linked data in Prism. Schedule and progress between two software coincides with each other making it more better for Management to analyze schedule and cost result and can deliver good decisions to a project using this software.

Vorteile:

User friendly scheduling and Planning tool, new cloud based data make it more easier to access remotely.

Nachteile:

None, all functions works well for us for the project and from the company.

Suitable for scheduling!

Kommentare: I have used this software on multiple projects and I can safely say that it is a very useful and user friendly software.

Vorteile:

The software to easy to use. The option of tracking the actual project performance against is the baseline is one of the best features of this software.

Nachteile:

Sometimes when you hit the execute button, it changes the dates which are not meant to be changed. It can be due to poor constraints defined by the user but it becomes a little irritating.

Primavera made project management easier. Far Better than few other paid PM software.

Kommentare: Felt this is Much better software when I moved from MS project. Using wisely for my current project in Our building department in Sri Lanka.

Vorteile:

It allows for combined working. Managing a large schedule plan by more people at a time. The professional package is actually free. Absolutely cheaper than few other PM software.

Nachteile:

Doesn't have much shortcut access. And don't have custom search for activity in a particular period or particular cost etc.
