IDrive system backup/storage

Kommentare: It's been great. I really honestly have no complaints. I've been able to back up all of my existing cloud drives, my backup harddrives, my normal harddrive, my phone, literally everything fits onto this one cloud storage service and I still have room for more.

Vorteile:

I can flash over my entire computer if I need to, my files are automatically kept up to date so I don't have to worry about losing anything ever, and I can put as many devices into my storage as I want. This means my phone, my laptop, my desktop, my work computer, all of it, all in one place. It's great.

Nachteile:

I'm not really one to hold back on my opinion of things, but I honestly can't find anything I really dislike about this product. I mean... maybe the time it took for the initial backup? Took over 12 hours to backup my entire computer worth of about 90gigs of files. But I can't really complain about that even, that seems just about fair since I was using my computer the entire time without any disruption to my normal functionality or speed.

iDrive is a life saver

Kommentare: I've been using iDrive for 6 years and I can't count the times it has saved me. The ability to access your files anywhere has really helped me not only when I'm missing something when I travel but also when working with 2 or more computers. You just download the file from the other computer backup and you're good to go. I prefer this over Dropbox or Google Drive because I don't have to work on a specific folder for it to backup, I just organize my files the way I need and then tell iDrive which folders to backup. It's one of my most important tools for my workflow. It also has Archive Cleanup so when you delete data from your computer it also deletes from the cloud, which helps keeping the storage free and having a true backup with no old files. iDrive + Time Machine is a complete and secure backup.

Vorteile:

I just wish IDrive would delete the folders from Archive Cleanup and not just the files, but folder don't occupy storage so it's not so bad

Disappointed and frustrated

Kommentare: It’s competitively priced, thus I signed up. Interface is quite confusing and not very appealing and it takes some getting used to.
Worst part is, that I wanted to share a file, it then sends a OPT code in order to recognize the device I’m using in this case laptop, that I ALWAYS use.. anyway, the code has not reached my email within the 5 minutes you are given before expiration. I really had no time to wait second and third and forth and fifth time while frustration gets in a way I put wrong, late delivered codes then account gets locked for 24 hours !!!! Support can NOT do anything about it ! This, just is ridiculously stupid and I’m not sure how could this even fly in professional settings of any such services?!

Vorteile:

Priced competitively. Can use iphone to back up pictures

Design is quite unappealing and development is confusing. Customer service is just ok, but they cant really help because of development

iDrive is fast but has a somewhat confusing UI

Kommentare: Quite happy because of the speed. A bit less happy because I never have full confidence about the backup status.

Vorteile:

The upload speed was great. Where Crashplan took a few months to upload everything (4TB), iDrive did it in less than a week. The ability to backup to a local drive or NAS is essential for me. Backing up multiple computers using the same account is a cost saver. With other backup services I needed to get two 5 TB licenses, where both accounts cannot be larger than 5. With iDrive I can backup with a 10TB license where one of the computers can go over 5 if the other one is less than 5.

Nachteile:

The UI is confusing. - It is very difficult to check which files have actually been backed up. No tree with green or red checkmarks. - The backup logs are difficult to read Backing up of open files ; i am still not sure if that really works because the software sometimes gives error messages on these files (outlook, lightroom) The local backup feature is nice. But it is only one backup set. So one set of files to one location. Would love the ability to have multiple local backup sets. I would like to see what iDrive is backing up real-time; which file is being backed up now, which ones are in the queue.

Good alternative for home Windows 11 backup

Vorteile:

Simple to deploy. Straightforward user interface. Nice windows app, web app, and mobile app experience. Like that I can see thumbnails of pictures in web and mobile app.

Nachteile:

Continuous Data Protection doesn't work on external drives. I have all my OneDrive data stored on an external SSD drive and CDP doesn't work with it. So, I'm reliant only on scheduled backups. Not a deal breaker, but would have liked to have that capability. I wish there was a little more flexibility in the scheduling windows. It's a bit clunky on how it creates backup jobs and what you can edit for them.

I really wanted to like it...

Kommentare: I really wanted to like IDrive and was really hoping this was the solution for me. I have since tried backing up 2TB of my laptop to both Google and Dropbox, and each of those providers have had serious issues in their context.

Vorteile:

The option for them to ship me a drive in which I can backup directly and ship back was a really nice feature. Sadly, thats about the best I can say.

Nachteile:

Backing up 2TB directly to an external hard drive is still going to take several hours. Well, for me it was 11 hours which is fine. So much better than the days it would have taken over the internet. I was expecting a smooth experience and was sad when it didnt happen. First, about 9 hours into the backup, I needed to reboot my laptop. I went into the IDrive app and paused the backup, then rebooted. After it starting back up, there was nothing to resume. It required me to start a new full backup. Resuming an existing backup is not rocket science. I contacted technical support, and they were responsive only to acknowledge that I needed to do another back up. So now on the second day, thats what I did. Per instructions, I went to eject the drive and my Mac was complaining that it was still be accessed my option was to force eject. So I decided to simply reboot again thinking a force eject is not a good path. Now, when it restarted, the drive came back and following the instructions again, I went to confirm the backup. To my surprise, it only listed two of the five folders. Yikes! Back to the support person and they told me to re-index the database using the idrive app. After another 9 hours the re-indexing finished an indeed the backup looked correct. I went to eject and again it was complaining the an app was still using the drive, leaving me with the option to force eject. I ran some command on the terminal and it showed that the IDriveDaemon was the culprit, so I did a kill -2 on it hoping for a clean shutdown, and then was able to eject. Just wow is all I can say. No warm and fuzzy, or confident feeling here. So I shipped the drive back and am waiting to be notified that I can resume backing up my laptop. Another feature that is very rudimentary and really questionable - I needed to share a file that was on the Cloud-Drive. IDrive uses a password to access the file, so yeah. I get to email the link and the password rather than an access control based on email of who I am sharing. So yeah, that is not ideal, especially after using Google Drive or even Dropbox.

A fantastic experience from a grumpy user......

Kommentare: I recently replaced my home quality NAS with a SYNOLOGY 1522+ 5-bay NAS. I was looking for a more professional approach to mass data storage. In re-tooling my data protection plan, I quickly realized the local NAS was good, but what happened if the NAS got destroyed? Fire, Water, etc? I live in Florida, so the threat of bad weather and destruction is very real. So.....I started researching off-site data protection schemes and quickly ran across iDrive. It was highly recommended by the top tech firms so it passed my initial screening. Once I hit their site, I quickly realized this was just the service I was looking for. Easy, efficient, inexpensive and (to my suprise) the SYNOLOGY OS has an iDrive integration app already in their app store! Cha-ching! Commissioning the service was super simple. Loaded the app on my SYNOLOGY and off we went. iDrive makes it easy with simple point and click configuration and talks sealmessly with the SYNOLOGY. Within a few minutes (seemed less than that) I had my first back configured, scheduled and making it's first pitch. The first backup took a little over an hour for my 6TB of backup data. I now have it scheduled to run at 2am on Monday's and Thursday's. The much quicker incremental backup are averaging 15-20 minutes. Can't be happier with iDrive service. I honestly can't think of anything better. I guess if they wanted to improve, they could assimilate my mind, analyze my thinking patterns, then automatically signup, setup and deploy off-site backups......(just kidding, [sensitive content hidden] will take of that in a few years, but we don't have to worry about that yet!) Deploy as will.......YOU won't be disappointed!

Easy, efficient and you can schedule it to run anytime you want!

Nachteile:

Nothing! As you can see from my review below, I am a fan of iDrive and super happy with the service they provide......

Idrive Review

Kommentare: I've been using IDrive for a while and it's become my top choice for cloud storage. I love its comprehensive backup options, including entire system images, and the ability to sync across all my devices. The user-friendly interface makes setup easy, and the reliable performance and reasonable pricing add to its appeal. Security features like encryption and two-factor authentication give me peace of mind, and while initial backup speeds could be faster, IDrive's overall versatility and strong support make it an excellent choice for both personal and business needs

Really impressed to far

Kommentare: Overall I'm really pleased, the cloud backup market has clearly expanded significantly since I last shopped around and I'm very impressed with this service.

Vorteile:

I switched to IDrive recently after a bad experience with my previous system, Arq. Immediately IDrive has been better in every way I can perceive so far. The software is much clearer, better organized, and easier to use, but I haven't noticed any lack of features. I'm using it to backup my work drives to the cloud drive, both running a daily full backup as well as hourly 'Continuous Data Protection' backups. I love that i can then access that data from other computers, vs Arq which has a very limited feature set for accessing your backups (only from the computer that initiated the backups, only from the desktop application). It's also much cheaper!

Nachteile:

I honestly haven't noticed any downsides so far, will be doing a test of the backup retrieval process soon.

Security for a small business

Kommentare: We were looking for a new online cloud backup solution, as our old one could not process our card. iDrive came up as a suggested option multiple times.
The payment and subscription set up process was painless and easy on iDrive.
We were able to download and schedule backup right away. The full backup process took about 5 hours for each laptop device. This is at par with our experience with other such apps.
We had some questions based on the error log, and iDrive support got back to us fairly promptly with clear suggestions.
Overall happy with this app, which helps us take off our mind from file loss related issues and get on with running our business.
I am writing this review based on a request from iDrive.

Vorteile:

Easy to install and schedule backup. No technical knowledge needed UI and instructions are easy to follow Perfect for a small business with limited data and devices The basic plan provides scope for future data needs Different options for scheduling backup means we can 'set it and forget it' Backup can be scheduled for the less busy times Support is excellent and got back with clear and specific answers to our queries within 12 hours and also followed up The iDrive software does not occupy too much memory when processing Was able to purchase and set up subscription for the software without any issues. Other backup options had some issues and were not able to process our credit card.

Nachteile:

Having used various other backup options in the past, we don't find any cons as compared to those other tools.

IDrive for Business

Kommentare: I have been able to restore data on the fly in the event of a hardware failure to any registered device quickly. This has turned out to be the best feature.

Vorteile:

Data is encrypted for security is critical. The cross platform support makes it ideal for Windows, Mac OSX, and Apple phones and tablets.

Nachteile:

The feature missing that I would want the most is continuous backup. The scheduler allows a daily, and weekly backup and hourly backup only.

Good value and simple to deploy backup

Vorteile:

iDrive is a great value backup product. It's easy to deploy, simple but powerful set of options and does everything i need. Perfect if you just want a simple backup solution with a good amount of storage which can be shared across a number of computers. Excellent set and forget backup package.

Nachteile:

It would be nice if they supported the ability to seed the backup with a drive, they offer this in some regions but not in UK. Great that they now offer a 2TB option as well as the 5TB option.

Best cloud drive in terms of performance and price.

An essential app for Businesses

Kommentare: I'm very happy with iDrive. It has worked flawlessly when I have had issues with other services. It does it's core job very well.

Vorteile:

Backup is something that is easy to forget to do. iDrive makes the process simple and works on both mac and windows computers. Once set up it works in the background and allows you to forget it again and carry on with just working, safe in the knowledge that if the worst happens your data and files are safe.

Nachteile:

The user interface takes some getting use to. The initial backups also do take up a lot of system resources although you can throttle how much it uses.

Extremely easy to use and value per TB

Kommentare: Quick install and setup of schedule. Very easy format and the ability to use on Synology NAS devices was a huge plus for me.

Vorteile:

iDrive is very easy to setup and run on multiple systems. Scheduling is straightforward and allows for different backup scenarios.

Nachteile:

Initial backup on new system can be a bit slow and I need to make sure that my local backups are running smoothly. It would be great to have exportable settings for use on multiple systems.

Idrive Review

Kommentare: Fast & reliable, file-sharing working properly. I'm using this feature constantly with my clients, due the excessive amount of files / file-sizes, which occurs in our business. If you don't have to restore accidentaly deleted files, you got a great service for your money.Take a bit of time to learn the process, some things are not enough intuitive from user perspective.

Vorteile:

Fast & reliable, file-sharing working properly. I'm using this feature constantly with my clients, due the excessive amount of files / file-sizes, which occurs in our business.

Nachteile:

Uploaded files are NOT moveable to another folder, when already in Drive. Deleted files restoration is a literal pain, the system is not capable of handling well, not enough functions in the trash bin part. (if accidentaly files were deleted from drive, you should contact with the customer service to restore, otherwise, you can do it FILE-BY-FILE, which is VERY INCONVINIENT!)NO DARK MODE ON THE IDRIVE APP (on win atleast), we are in 2023!

Slow initial upload but great features

Kommentare: So far I like it more than alternatives. I hated that Backblaze would say I’m backed up and then it would take a long time to see it online and some files were missing. So this option is much better. I can see the files immediately when they upload. There are more controls on uploading schedules. Overall, I’m pleased so far.

Vorteile:

The price point, ease of use and features.

Nachteile:

The slow initial upload but I can’t comment on speeds after you do the initial large upload for backup or archive.

Ideal multi-platform backup solution

Kommentare: Installation on both MacOS and Windows was smooth. Configuration of the backup on both platforms is relatively easy with good interfaces to understand what is selected for backup vs. not selected. MacOS security features did require a few more hoops to jump through but they were well documented in the instructions.

Vorteile:

The provided multi-platform apps are well-designed and integrated with their respective platforms (MacOS and Windows 10). Scheduling automated backups is a set and forget operation..no need to think about planning to manually backup files. In remental backups recover the backup operation from any system issues encountered in earlier backups.

Nachteile:

No real cons to this service and software. It works as described and provides security and peace of mind that your systems are backed up regularly. One thing that would be nice is the ability to back up directly from a cloud account such as iCloud to iDrive.

Excellent backup program

Kommentare: Backups are crucial. Idrive does it well for a very competitive cost and good support. It takes a bit of time to set and learn its functions up but once working, it basically takes care of itself. It's a good program at a good price.

Vorteile:

For years I've used Onedrive but also use Idrive for extra security. One aspect of Idrive I like is that you can do both local and cloud backups. I have external hard drives connected to my two computers and having a physical backup is an extra layer of security that is important. Also, a full restore of a crashed hard drive can take days to do online but probably less than an hour from a local backup. Idrive has very robust phone and chat support. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for help. Onedrive only has email support which is usually nowhere as useful as having someone to troubleshoot with in the moment. When installing Idrive on a new computer I used the chat service to get some info. The next day I got a got a call from a human asking if everything was working well. That's excellent service. Idrive also has a sync function, which can operate like a cloud sync service like Onedrive. I don't use the sync service as I have Onedrive but if you want to use just one cloud sync/backup service, Idrive has it all in one package. Idrive also retains all deleted files forever which is an extra layer of security and beats Onedrive by a mile which permanently deletes recycled files after 30 days. I first got Idrive on a promotion: $1 for 5 Tb for one year. You can't beat that anywhere. They have good promotions for the first year which, if amortized, decreases the cost for subsequent years. Idrive really is an excellent value.

Nachteile:

The Idrive interface has a bit of an old fashioned look and setting it up for the first time is less intuitive than it should be. That's where excellent support comes in. But once you figure it out and select the folders to backup, it basically works in the background and can be left alone, for years if necessary without intervention. I did need to contact support to figure out how to backup Outlook files. That's been my only hiccup with the program.

Easy to Use but Customer Support Needs Improvement

I love how easy the product is to actually use. When I first used it, I thought I was getting the hang of it, but it was doing something I didn’t understand. But that was easy to overcome and with a little bit of practice, became easier and easier. Love this product for sharing files between members of my team and for the price - absolutely amazing! We are a small team and only a small number of us need to have access to the folder system; prior to IDrive I used Dropbox and was scratching to get away from Dropbox. IDrive to the rescue! Dropbox charged my team of three $540 a year, or $54 a month, for storage space of 5TB. It was ridiculous and we didn't utilize nearly the amount of features they boast about. We needed something new and drastically cheaper for our needs. With IDrive, we use it family style since it is only three of us for $74, and some change a year. We are saving so much money and are able to get all our needs met! Highly recommend!

Nachteile:

My main complaint is customer support. I called twice and chatted once with IDrive’s support and was met with snarky characters that had rude attitudes toward me. They also didn’t seem to understand the IDrive product. I asked if I can use the Cloud Sharing without Sync on because it was taking up the space on my computer (which I did not want). One rep was very quick to offer me my money back as I suggested that IDrive might not suit my needs if I can only use this feature with Sync on. That discouraged me. So I called the next day during their business hours. The rep hung up on me or we got disconnected, so I called again. When I called again, this rep also said that it was not possible to use the cloud storage without having the sync on. I found this to be stupendously impossible to do. I simplified the question. “Can I download a file from the cloud without having sync on?” The answer I received was, “no, you must turn sync on to transfer files to your computer." I told him that I found that to be strange, and I was met with silence. Upon me hanging up the call, I tried to download a file myself with sync turned off. Low and behold, I WAS able to download a file from Cloud without having to have sync turned on. I would highly suggest retraining your team when two individuals very confidently said that I could not do this.

A comprehensive and affordable backup solution for all your devices

Kommentare: the overall experience is very satisfatory.any problem on set it up (quite easy and straightforward), any problem on data restoration (everything was in where it was expected to be), any problem in support (they are always present)

Vorteile:

The most important features for which I choose this solution is the availability of clients for all the platforms we are using.the cost was the second element and idrive was the spectacularly winner of that competitionI can backup with the same application mobiles, NAS and desktops

Nachteile:

If I've to find a concern on the service the fact that I can only share between clients a single directory with a fixed name is a limitation. I rather prefer to sync a number of directories of my choice between users' clients.currently this feature is not (I hope yet) available

Great Backup System

Kommentare: Great system, no intent to ever change.

Vorteile:

Great product, well priced, runs in background without using a lot of resources, real time backup, very fast to download files.

Nachteile:

Searching is a little difficult, but not much. Desktop version sometimes doesn't work for downloading but the on-line version is faster anyways.
