A fantastic offering for small development teams

Kommentare: We've improved a number of key workflows with Azure DevOps and it's proved to be an invaluable addition to our software development cycle.

Vorteile:

The service provides a lot under the one package, task management, source control, CI/CD, and release pipelines. If you are a small team or just starting off, you'll be able to take advantage of it all for either free, or very little money. It's clearly designed to get teams hooked on Azure and it does this job well.

Nachteile:

The UI is clunky in places, task management specifically leaves a lot to be desired. While the close integration with source control is fantastic, editing and navigating between tasks take far too long and you're much more likely to avoid doing it or take a lot longer to complete a simple job.

It is a very complete continuous learning program

Kommentare: It has been an experience more good than bad, we believe that it is a program that deserves to be purchased, to be used, it has several strong aspects when developing or at least complements the work that had already been done and provides new configurations when developing. Compatibility with many applications.

Vorteile:

It is a program that helps us obtain better ideas when generating new projects within the company. It was crucial for the team to have access to new learning tools and we believe that we were able to obtain this at the time that helped us make development compatible. with other formats. Azure DevOps provides robust continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) capabilities, which are crucial for modern software development in our team and in this way we have complemented work with what we already had.

Nachteile:

We did not like the project manager system that we believe is outdated, it does not have all the tools that we need, therefore in this sense we had to choose to buy other programs that would help us separately with this problem.

Not terrible if you have to use it

Kommentare: I would avoid using Azure DevOps if there is a choice, but often there isn't much choice if you want to stay entirely within Microsoft/Azure ecosystem.

Vorteile:

Very featureful and covers most enterprise use case, with deep integration in Azure eco-system.

Nachteile:

Developer ergonomics and ease-of-use are poor compared to common options like Github / Gitlab.

Azure DevOps Services is essential for ALM

Vorteile:

Nachteile:

In reporting it could be better, delivering reports on pipelines, Azure Repost, and agents. There is great room for improvement to monitor and control projects.

Microsoft's one stop shop for planning, task, code, versions and releases management

Kommentare: If I get a say in the selection of tooling before starting the project, Azure DevOps is my go to.

Vorteile:

It's a full suite usable directly as is with very little configuration needed to get a jump start. Customizations and integrations are still possible though. I like the work experience better with Azure DevOps board rather than one of the competing backlog/task management suites.

Nachteile:

The Azure DevOps Boards seems a bit forgotten/sunsetting tool but hopefully there would be still future new features and enhancements to make it even better.Git approvals workflow really should be much more seamless so that either work from developer and approver perspective is only done in Git and automatically reflects to Azure DevOps tasks/work items. Or other way around, approval requests would get populated as task on board and moving it to done column would automatically approve pull request in Git. There is some still unlocked potential there with integration and seamless working experience.

You don't get notifications inside of the app so this is worthless

Kommentare: If you don't care about being up to date about what is going on in your projects, it's brilliant. If you want to know when someone comments on your ticket, don't even bother. Even JIRA onprem does this now?

Vorteile:

...there is a moment where you think oh maybe there is life beyond Atlassian products and the idea of competition in the market place is good. I suppose the fact that wiki's are included in the price whilst for Atlassian confluence is a whole other paid product is good?

Nachteile:

It doesn't have the concept of closing a sprint. So items just... remain. You cannot easily move them to the 'new' sprint. You have to think far too hard about administration 'what area is an item in'. Bulk actions are poor. Most chaotically - there are no in app notifications?!?! So you get an email about everything. And you get hundreds of emails. If you are under the age of 35 this is unacceptable really.

It's my favourite DevOps tool

Kommentare: It's my favourite DevOps tool, it's always good to see when a client uses Azure DevOps over other tools

Vorteile:

The sheer amount of possibilities the product offers. I love the fact that your git repos and agile task management is in the same place, it's very easy to link tickets to repo branches. Merging branches works very good.

Nachteile:

Some pages (like retrospectives) don't auto-refresh which can be quite annoying. You should also be careful with some changes as it may affect a lot of tickets and can result in a lot of manual labour to fix things.

Well managed and Centralized DevOps Services

Kommentare: Overall my personal and professional experience is very good with Azure DevOps. And I use this product on my daily bases

It has very user friendly interface and it is very very easy to use. All DevOps Capabilities are available in a single place. Highly Recommended!

Nachteile:

I didn’t find anything to hate this microsoft product. However, there are certain things that require more improvement.

ADO - work management quality

Kommentare: As a certified Scrum Master, I'm incredibly pleased with ADO and all it's been able to do in supporting our work management. This includes reporting out on progress, cycle times, velocity, and items not in good order.

Vorteile:

Azure DevOps, or ADO, is the tool we rely on for all of our work management. Thanks to ADO, we can sustain clarity on which team members are prioritizing which deliverables during any given Sprint Cycle. This greatly enhances our ability to achieve intended Outcomes.

Nachteile:

ADO can have limitations, such as with how dynamic roadmaps can appear and integration with PowerBI for more advanced dashboard metrics. (e.g. how long a work item has been in a particular state)

DevOps is a Great Platform for Developers, Not the Average Professional

Vorteile:

The click and drag task management function was intuitive and satisfying.

Nachteile:

DevOps was clearly made for software developers. The average business professional would have a huge learning curve trying to adjust to this platform. I used it for over a year and still didn't know how to use 90% of its capabilities. I'm sure it's a powerful tool; it's just not user friendly or intuitive.

Amazing DevOps Services

Vorteile:

I used Azure during my bachelors for assignments. It integrated with VS Code which made using it so much easier. It is a full suite of dev ops services and has everything that one would ever need. I mostly use the sprint planning features that helps me organize all the tasks and tickets and easily see the works of my team members.

Nachteile:

It incoperates every services which might be overwhelming and complicated at the first glance. It takes a while to learn as well.

Despite these difficulties, I continue to think of Azure DevOps Services as a useful tool for organizing my projects and working with my team.

Great CI/CD Tool - Azure DevOps

Kommentare: Azure DevOps is a great product that is helpful in development, integration, collaboration, and tracking the process progress.

Vorteile:

Services which are provided by Azure DevOps are pipelines, boards, repos, test plans, and artifacts.Each service provides its best for the user's needs.Azure boards in project tracking, Pipelines in automation, test plan to manage test cases, and a dashboard provides a complete overview of all projects.

Nachteile:

The main drawback that I faced here is that it is difficult to integrate with other tools.Pipeline configuration is also quite difficult, and it might get slower sometimes.

Best and user friendly Devops services

Kommentare: Excellent and for any kind of user , developers, testers, devops professionals, managers it's very much user friendly than any other tools in the market.

Vorteile:

User interface, setting up build processes and release process was quite easier as compared to other devops tools , integration of third party tools was also easy by follow official Microsoft documentation.

Nachteile:

Nothing as such as of now, maybe sometimes when multiple people accessing the same task from Azure boards the behaviour is not consistent.

unique pipelines

Kommentare: automation made easy with CI/CD.

Vorteile:

I like the fact that every release to the main branch has to go through levels of approval by a senior Developer before it can be finally released to production.

Nachteile:

Codes shouldn't be allowed to run directly from GitHub, it should be initiated directly from Azure Repos. I mean Azure Repos should be very unique.

Best Project management tool for any kind of industry

The best part of this tool is we can plan, prepare and execute using this tool. Can use CICD pipeline Developers, Testers, Managers, BA, POs and clients at one place

Nachteile:

Nothing least, it's costly comparatively Need some documentation

Must Have Source Control

Kommentare: Since our company has started using VSTS, I found it very helpful and it has made our work so much easier. We can now all work on the same project at the same time, we have our pipelines and builds going well, so deployments are no longer such a huge concern in terms of reliability and roll-back capability. There is much that I still have to learn, but from what I have experienced so far, I will not use any other version control system.

Vorteile:

Having recently started working with VSTS, I found it capable of so much in terms of version control, continuous integration and also project management(Yes Project Management). The idea of having everything you need in one place, has always been a challenge in many teams. With VSTS DevOps, everyone knows what is happening, from management, to developers, to project managers. You can see exactly what was changed, by whom and when. Project managers can plan and allocate tasks to developers and track their progress. Other than the version control and tracking of progress, continuous integration and delivery enables a seamless link from dev to staging to production and everything in between. VSTS is indeed a powerful tool that not many can compete with.

Nachteile:

I find it a bit difficult to navigate through. Due to the large scope of functionality, I find myself with too much info at times. From your menu to the left, it branches out to so many different pages.

A solid choice for IT project management

Kommentare: I thinks its a very robust tool which, being integrated into Visual Studio, makes it great especially for devs. From my product manager viewpoint, I like that its easy to track versions and work items, making my work easier and ensuring I dont loose track of anything.

Vorteile:

I think the best about VSTS is the ability to be able to comment on work items, naming people, so that they are notified of what comments you make. This makes it very agile to cooperate and collaborate with my team. Everyone knows what to do, there is traceability, and, for the first time, all the info we need to work is in a single place. Linking and ordering work items by hierarchy is also a great feature that I really like.

Nachteile:

Its a bit hard to get used. There are a few features we are not even using because we do not full understand them. Kanban boards are not that intuitive and we end up using old lists usually. I also find it annoying that I cannot order by columns when looking at a sprint or backlog, I can only do that in queries.

ADO for Scrum

Vorteile:

I love the dashboarding. It is critical to Be able to watch the tickets go through the swim lanes.

Nachteile:

It’s owned by Microsoft and the licensing is a web of unknowns.

The Only Agile Tool to Use

Kommentare: Since introducing this to our team over 2 years ago we have seen a noticeable increase in productivity and satisfaction from our executive group. We can better articulate the total sum of work remaining and to be done which increases team morale and strategic direction. Highly recommended for any organization looking to implement Agile methodology within their teams.

Vorteile:

Azure DevOps is the absolute leader for Agile deployment. Agile is woven all throughout the DNA of the system and lends itself perfectly to the process and practices that underpin Agile. The best features by far ar the Backlog and Decomposing of tasks. This is beneficial to any working group, IT or otherwise. The other great features are the reporting and burn down chart which provide real time information for team progress that can be broken down further into it's component parts.

Nachteile:

Not too many complaints based on our teams usage of the product but I would say some features can be quite advanced for a team if it's not fully practicing Agile. It is easy to use what you need to and ignore what you don't want but it can be overwhelming for new users.

Dev Ops is a must to meet deliverables

Kommentare: Overall, I would highly recommend this product especially if your organization already uses Microsoft. The integration to other Microsoft products/services is seamless. Being able to connect to your companies active directory and not have to hassle with a user database is a huge plus.

Vorteile:

As with all other Microsoft products the best part is how easily they all integrate together. Being able to get up and running quickly using an active directory is also a plus. Notifications, workflow, resource management, task assigning, planning sprints, storing document. This tool literally does it all and chances are that if you have an enterprise license with Microsoft you can get this up and running quickly.

Nachteile:

Planning sprints is a bit of a tedious process. I wouldn't necessarily say this is a con because I dont know if there is a way to change that. Maybe if Dev Ops could make a bulk upload feature or something. Like where you could load a csv file to plan out everything?

Good service - covers everything from task management to VCS and release management

Kommentare: Good overall. I'd recommend this if you're in a corporate environment and already use other Microsoft products - this will feel very familiar. Also, if you don't want to combine multiple services and just want to pay for one thing and get everything you might need.

Vorteile:

It's a one-stop shop for everything you need in an R&D group - includes everything, with integration between the different features of the product.

Nachteile:

It doesn't have the best integrations around (especially vs. GitHub for example), and also the task management system feels clunky at times - more old fashioned than alternatives like Monday.com or Asana, which makes it annoying to check up on my work daily as an IC.

Azure Devops - Making your agile tasks easier

Vorteile:

1. Integration with github etc 2. CI CD pipeline is easy to setup and manage 3. Task tracking is very helpful 4. Product backlog tracking and creation is very user friendly

Nachteile:

1. Can be a bit confusing to new users moving from TFS
