Finally, a single integrated Human Resource / Time-and-attendance / Payroll system.
Here in Shawinigan Quebec we have 50,000 residents and 600 employees who work for the city at some time during the year.
Shawinigan searched for several years for a truly integrated unified system that was user-friendly and could give us the autonomy to create our own pay codes, benefits, and custom data extractions. When I finally saw a demo of Umana I knew it was the very tool we needed. At this point we have been using Umana for 3 years now and are extremely satisfied.
Umana software is very easy for users to work with. We can take advantage of its full potential without needing technical expertise. At Shawinigan all employees enter their own timesheet without a problem, and managers approve them with a single click.

Vorteile: Umana is fully integrated, from human resources to time-and-attendance to net pay, in a single unified system. You can correct one item and it is corrected throughout the system. The are no internal interfaces between modules from different sources. It has a consistent uniform look and feel and fits together perfectly. You can drill down extensively between modules. Umana really works. It does everything that was promised and a lot more. It is highly configurable and easily customizable as well. I really love it. Union contracts are complicated and we have not found another product (at an affordable price) which can handle them, so we are very happy that Umana can. We had originally purchased another software (* call me for details if you like), which was so rigid and inflexible that we had to pull the plug on the implementation and go out for a new call for tenders.
Nachteile: I really like almost everything about Umana. Sometimes is seems complicated to configure, but when I realize how complicated our rules are, I know it couldn't be any other way.

Umana reduces effort by automating many payroll tasks. Their help & availability makes it work well.
Kommentare: The real benefit is a having modern fully integrated HR and payroll system which saves us time and applies our complex rules automatically. All the information is in one single place and we can put it in and get it out easily. Employees use it; managers use it; and our HR and payroll staff use it. With Umana we are able to pay our bus drivers (including route premiums, split schedule premiums, etc.), our maintenance worker (who get paid by job performed), and office workers and managers (who enter a timesheet), and even our elected directors without a hitch and applying all our rules. (And they are complex!) HR also uses Umana for hiring, termination, raises, and benefits. Seniority is by hours worked and by job group (for maintenance staff), and employees move to a new grade the day the reach the number of hours required. All this is handled automatically in Umana. Benefits are calculated automatically and flow through to the pay. Umana integrates with a number of in-house systems we had built prior to Umana, with both file imports and exports and web services. At RTL we have designed many custom reports and exports. Usually we can do them ourselves, but we know that the Umana team is always available to help us.
Vorteile: At RTL (Réseau Transport Longueuil) we have 650 bus drivers, 250 maintenance workers, plus many office staff and managers and coordinators. Our 3 collective agreements have evolved over years, with complex schedules, premiums, and holiday and vacation remuneration rules. We are very pleased that Umana was able to manage them all. Benefits too. Umana also interfaces to our other existing systems and serves as an information hub. Our users find it easy and intuitive to work with.
Nachteile: Interpreting our collective agreements and matching them to existing practices took more effort than we anticipated.

Kommentare: We choose Umana mostly because it was an easy-to-use software with a lot of flexibility and adaptability. We appreciate the fact that we can attach documents relative to each of the employees "movements" (salary increase letters, emails, pdf...)
Vorteile: It's flexibility and adaptability.
Nachteile: Even though the reports are easy to program / change, the fact that we have to use both French and English reports makes it difficult and time consuming for us to modify the reports twice (once in French and once in English).

User of Umana since 1999 for a company with very complex HR and Payroll needs
Umana is by far the best product I have used in my career for several reasons:
- the system is rule based and versatile
- able to customize the program to meet our complex multi-layer collective agreement
- handles our multi-payrolls for our salaried, unionized and director payrolls
- easy to use and easy to understand modules
(personal, employment, benefits, safety, skills, time & attendance information and history)
- ease and speed of data entry
- reporting provided is superior and can be easily manipulated to meet the company needs
- can create my own customized reports in-house
- benefit plans were customized to meet our changing benefit plans
- system maintenance for legislative updates are timely and accurate
- pay runs are accurate (gross, net, taxation, benefits, deductions, remittances)
- support, support, support!!! Extremely fast, knowledgeable, friendly support. I can not stress enough how comforting and helpful the Umana team support has been for me. I would recommended Umana without hesitation. I
