aPriori comments

Kommentare: It's a good upfront design for cost tool. In addition, it's a reasonable should cost & supplier quote analysis tool. The challenge from a team member buy-in standpoint is that we have a few big wins and more cases where we didn't get useful results from aPriori analysis. From an overall perspective, the big wins probably justify the cases where it didn't work out so well, but team members who spent a lot of time & effort without good results get a negative view of aPriori and its capabilities.

Vorteile:

Upfront ability to determine costing during the design phase. Objective & detailed analysis of component cost, including optimal processing.

Nachteile:

In some cases the recommendations from aPriori of diametrically opposed to what we find in our supply base. For example, recommending ductile cast iron over gray cast iron on a pound for pound cost base. We don't have any evidence from our supply base that this is true. This case discouraged use of aPriori for several key team members.

It is a One Size Fits All tool for Product Lifecycle

Kommentare: A great experience working in aPriori and dealing with aPriori support team who is always ready to help and support on all issues. Personally like their professional approach to resolve the issues as soon as possible.

Vorteile:

aPriori gives a wide range of options in costing and analysis that is most suitable for all stakeholders during a product development or product improvement lifecycle. It is a great tool in hands of engineers to evaluate early impacts of Cost and also helps understands manufacturing limitations and design rule violations through Design to Cost feedback. Also a great tool to understand alternate design or alternate manufacturing evaluations. It is an essential tool in hands of cost engineers to understand and quickly simulate different scenarios of cost in various regions and various parameters. A great tool for Purchasing to understand the details of cost breakdown and negotiate with suppliers on arguable parameters. aPriori also provides Business Intelligence tool with Cost Insight Reporting that is very much helpful for Project Managers to keep track of the project status and cost targets. Overall, aPriori would be a great tool for any industry that is looking to excel in industry with right evaluated approach and good understanding of Cost of the product. Thank You.

Nachteile:

There are certain process group not available in aPriori to cost such as Hydraulic Hoses, Black Box, Valves, Assembly/welding tooling etc. These processes are highly used in industries and would be essential to have in aPriori expertise.

3D model engine makes cost analysis faster

Kommentare: Fast and easy to use, even for design engineers or buyers. When a cost-structure is well established, it can provide the estimation for all simple mechanical components. The bulk-costing is powerful if well configured.

Vorteile:

The 3D model engine can load Step parts/assemblies in seconds, recognizing the manufacturing features such as bending/drilling/machining . This makes the cost estimation automatic and much easier, comparing to other similar software on the market.

Nachteile:

The annual subscription price is not easy to digest, even for large companies. We had to prepare a good business case to get the approval of purchase.

aPriori

Kommentare: It has been overall success at this point. My first time out, i was able to take a small handful of parts and save over 200k.

Vorteile:

I like that it provides me a guide and/or targets that helps me align with my current suppliers and potentially get substantial cost savings

Nachteile:

That i have to wait for my engineer to pull drawings and provide me the should cost.

Costing suits to every Organization

Kommentare: Simple , Agile, On the Fly Costing

Vorteile:

1. Software helps to link all the platform available i.e ERP, CFD, SAP system 2. Mode FRONTIER is another that helps to do costing for various parameters thereby helping in achieving the best optimize cost for the required parameter 3. Target Costing/ Value Tracking report helps in the New Product Development 4. Cost Insight design/reporting is another positivity for aPriori which helps to visualize for the business meeting and cost outlier analysis etc..

Nachteile:

Required good server for the Speed in the costing the parts but aPriori has solution where they are bringing in the Web-Based Costing in near future

Best cost predictive modeling software I've used

Kommentare: Added capability, increased speed to model, global integration, regular machine and materials updates from supplier

Vorteile:

The ability to customize the software is of incredible importance to me. Since switching to this brand, we (as a company) have been able to greatly increase the amount of internal costing support we've been able to provide to our commodity management and engineering teams.

Nachteile:

Upgrade time seems to be the most painful time for me, being an administrator of the tool. The unknown issues that can happen with an installation, and finding new things that were not thoroughly vetted through the testing process cause me the greatest issue.

AGILE COSTING for this modern Technology World- Am Loving it!

Vorteile:

1.Design to Cost Feature- Helps the Design Engineers to know where the cycle time is most and what need to be alter to make the machining cost optimize 2.Process set up Options, helps the Cost engineer to alter or override the feed/speed rate for the machines as per the supplier circumstances to challenge the current price with supplier 3.Interactive Reporting-Helps the reader to understand the important cost drivers and the cost components

Nachteile:

1.Enhancement required in few Process group such as "Investment Casting", "Powder Metal" which currently is the Basic where we need more Process setup options

Kommentare: Fantastic. This is a tool that has no market competitors from a costing and Design for Cost Assessment

Vorteile:

The tool is an innovation and reduces unwanted Non Value Adds while doing costing. The innovation level aPriori has achieved is unparalleled in the market

Nachteile:

The material cost database can be refreshed more frequently given the fluctuations in material price.

Process flow selections/options, equipment options, flexibility to obtain complex quotes and reports

Nachteile:

Lack of some raw materials in database, payment terms function does not work every time

A good software with potential but if their focus are the designers they must improve.

Kommentare: It is a great software but with a lot of details to be polished. One of the main CONS has been to be moved from the desktop version which worked really well to the current cloud version... the change was extremely painful mainly for someone like (design engineer focusing on DFM & DTC) me who are used to work with several simulation tools.
The cloud version works slower and you can have only one session running at the same time (before I was used to have 2-3 sessions in parallel working on different projects) and good look when you need to work with heavy weight parts like perforated parts or parts with repetitive patterns. Before those parts were possible to be quoted running during some hours but now after some hours you will be disconnected by from the amazon server...

Vorteile:

In general the possibility to work with a lot of different of manufacturing process for sheet metal (although being honest there are some that are missing...).

Nachteile:

As an advanced user of aPriori Professional in my organization I can say that a lot of feature are not fully clear at all.

aPriori Software Review

Kommentare: - I've been using the tool for almost 3 years and I've learned a lot about metal-mechanic manufacturing.
- The aPriori support team is always open for help.
- The regional database is accurate and receives up-to-date information.

Vorteile:

We've been using the software aPriori in my department for 3+ years helping the supply chain in cost reduction projects. It is a reliable tool and accurate at process groups such as stock machining, sheet metal, and 2-Model Machining. We have accomplished some successful cases with products ending in cost reduction negotiation. It is primordial to work together in order to get beneficial results.

Nachteile:

The learning curve can be slow at the beginning but once you get familiar with the modules and know how to move around you'll get better and will get optimal input from the software. What I like least: the welding tool selection, the measurement tool, and secondary process availability.

User friendly aPriori software feedback

Kommentare: it's great tool we almost now able to do more costing projects which is not earlier by using excel based costing ,great for making supplier based VPE it is saved lot time for quoting

User friendly ,Easy to mold as per XYZ company requirement ,Time Saving

Nachteile:

DTC feature need to more in case of Fabrication and sheet metal parts for soft tools and hard tools ,accurate raw material data for pipes ,plates ,tubes etc which is more required ,time lagged need to address ,also tooling cost need to more realistic it is too high currently

aPriori Review after 2+ Years

Kommentare: Overall aPriori is a very robust and dynamic software. We make use of it on a weekly basis when we are on a time crunch to get quotes back and rely on estimation. The aPriori team has been very helpful on customization as they are constantly updating/upgrading the software.

Vorteile:

The speed at which it is able to estimate with a high level of detail. They are constantly updating and upgrading their features. We get design time with where we look at customization.

Nachteile:

Working with a 2D file it can be cumbersome at times albeit the tool was built for 3D files. Some of the features are a bit cost prohibitive.

aPriori's ability to be calibrated and customized to our specific uses allows us to fill in the gaps

Vorteile:

We especially like and use the Cost Model Workbench for the ability to create User Guided models which are not available as well as models we can use when 3D files are not available. One business area we have been able to work on is identifying gaps where we could not model costs in the past. Now we can build cost models to do those. This provides extra resources in providing target costs and is useful in supplier discussions. I am continually impressed with all the features aPriori allows and has. The more you know...the more you can do. This is especially true within Cost Model Workbench and User Guided cost models. We are creating more and more capability by leveraging what we know along with the aPriori's ability to let us code or own logic.

Nachteile:

Due to the intense ability to customize things, incorporating updates from aPrioir is a bit of an exercise.

I really like to customization capability.. Someone without a programming background can easily edit and build their own cost models

Nachteile:

I think the licensing can be uncomplicated.

aPriori - Quoting friend

Vorteile:

I am a user of aPriori so I cannot speak much on the implementation of this product but I can speak on how this has help me in my everyday job as a quoter for Plastic Injection Molding. Using this software, I can analyze the geometry of a part and in minutes have an estimate on how much a mold may cost. There are many manual variables you can adjust to produce a more accurate representation of your overall cost, quick response time, and many reports that can be generated after the fact. This saves me days working on certain quotes and gives me more confidence in my work and quote being as accurate as possible.

Nachteile:

No real big cons, in my opinion. The split screen UI is goofy at time but can get adjusted to your own liking. Would be nice to see some additional viewing features for the 3D part being displayed, section view specifically.

Cost engineer

Vorteile:

aPriori makes our life easier in estimating product cost for complex geometries. Time saving & good traceability.

Nachteile:

Reporting can be advanced to reduce further more complexities.

over all very good software but needs to expand the database based on growing market size . The machine data base needs to be expanded to accommodate bigger components /giants.

Great tool for making cost decisions

Kommentare: Hitting project targets up front, and getting better visibility to cost throughout the organization.

Vorteile:

Ease of use, with multiple out of the box processes for startup of cost modeling.

Nachteile:

The upgrade process is a bit antiquated. I wish it were more like a Windows upgrade.

Textron Systems

Kommentare: aPriori is an effective tool that will allow us to identify issues earlier in the process and pin point which components are driving up our costs.

Vorteile:

You only need a select inputs to produce an initial evaluation/ simulation of a model.

Nachteile:

For complex components, it requires manipulation of the simulation to produce an accurate cost.

Excellent Product

Vorteile:

We have been using aPriori for about a year. It's great tool that allows our sourcing professionals to have "real" cost data in their possession when negotiating with the supply base. It moves those discussions to real data driven discussions.

Nachteile:

We have nothing to comment on at this point.

Benefits

Nachteile:

Difficult to find the source and formula behind the shown numbers. Like how the cycletime is calculated.
