Deltek Costpoint Erfahrungen

Easy-to-use but doesn't work for every situation

Vorteile:

I use costpoint daily at my job and the software is very easy to navigate. I have no issues searching for BOMs (Bill of Materials) and costpoint interacts relatively seamlessly with the systems that we use for engineering drawings and shop floor instructions.

Nachteile:

A lot of the materials in the BOMs seem to be controlled by effectivity dates. This may work well for companies that have interchangeable parts with planned obsolescence dates, but the industry I work in has variable production schedules where it'd be preferable to control materials by engineering drawing effectivity.

Reliable and consistent

Kommentare: I started using Deltek costpoint since 2019 and I use it daily. Most of the features on Deltek is intuitive and easy to use. When transferring data from Deltek to Excel, it is easy to transfer.

Vorteile:

Customer service. Especially zoom meeting to resolve issues. Transferring information from the software to excel in an easy manner.

Nachteile:

Frequent update regarding software upgrade.

Poor user interface

Vorteile:

Don't like it, but I'm required to use it.

Nachteile:

The cumbersome user interface. I have a PhD in machine learning, since I find hard navigating the plurality of tables and fields. The system displays "unfillable" forms, for example for a certain configuration there is no "Charge Type" possible. However, you cannot submit the form without this. It even doesn't save drafts, despite pressing save, so it lost all my records I've added.Imagine you send a janitor to buy two bottles of floor cleaning. However, the janitor bought three, one being for personal use. I wish the janitor a good time to enter the miles driven, the cost of the cleaner and the personal deduction. Each entry needs to be assigned to the correct project. What a waste of time and energy! The Janitor experiences a user interface no less complex than a helicopter dashboard.

Deltek Review

Vorteile:

In my experience, I think one of things I like about Deltek is that it "stops" you from revising previous work without a reason. I think that's incredibly important for the employer.

Nachteile:

One thing I don't like about Deltek is how specific it is. At least in my experience, it doesn't allow up to two decimal points on the timesheet. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but whenever I track it, it would tell me that it can't track it because it differs from what I put in. For instance, if I worked 7.75 hours, I would try to track it as 7.7 or 7.8, but it won't accept it.

Costpoint Hard to use

Vorteile:

The best thing of CostPoint was that it was good to generate reports really quickly

Nachteile:

A lot of features could easily be improved on the UI/UX side of the house. There is a massive learning curve and the system just is clunky and very hard to use.

A simple concept is complicated and user time is wasted with Deltek

Kommentare: Stuck with it so obviously I am using it but I figured I would help other organizations make better choices for their employees.

Vorteile:

It doesn't crash or freeze up, I have to give credit that their server connections and implementations are proper. So it doesnt crash during use, although logins sometimes get delayed due to some cookie issues.

Nachteile:

Ah where do I start. No clear user interface set up method. It has a bunch of poorly worded menus and some other buttons and a whole lot of unnecessary "Query" buttons. For most users, the goal is select a charge code, pick the day of week, add the hours and save, At the end of week, they sign the sheet. Simple, right? But not, Deltek makes the whole process of actually finding the "timesheet" and adding a line to it pretty convoluted. Note I didnt say complicated because it is not. But a simple process is converted to a random goose chase through multiple menu locations, clicks, searches and then selections. Picking a project code yay.. click on random looking glass icon or square faded blue icons and search, leave codes -- search through layered menus and then figure out what to add. Use -ve and + signs on user side, because the geniuses that built this software couldn't figure it on their side.

On point billing system

Vorteile:

I really like that it is able to accurately record and track billable hours. It also makes it easy to tag billed hours to the right budget/funding codes. You can see approval logs and editing if ever you make a mistake is possible.

Nachteile:

There are too many clickable buttons that can be confusing for first-time users. But I guess that is the case always when using new software.

Deltek

Vorteile:

Deltek Costpoint is a great software tool to manage parts, inventory, finances and cost reports. It is very easy to use if you are aware that the first priority of Costpoint is a financial tool. It is customizable to link to other software for ERP and MES solutions.

Nachteile:

There is a dedicated support team, but for an enterprise solution there aren't many options for individual sites.

Easy to use once you get the hang of it

Kommentare: Overall I think Deltek is a solid tool and I would not mind continuing to use the software, however I've worked at other places that have had better or at least more user-friendly timekeeping systems.

Vorteile:

As a user, my only involvement with Deltek is entering my hours on a daily basis after work. It took some fiddling around but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty straight forward to log my data. The tool allows you to see how much holiday or PTO balance you have as well as allowing you to access your paystub. These were things that my company previously had as separate systems, so it's nice that they're all together now.

Nachteile:

It was hard to familiarize myself with the tool at first as it seems all the basic functions for simply entering my time data is hidden under various levels of menus. I don't know if it's merely because of the way my company configured the tool, but I haven't figured out how to print things, especially my paystub. There is no option that I'm aware of for looking at my PTO history.

Great

Vorteile:

Quite friendly this software, allows many tasks to be done quickly, we try to fix errors and show solutions

Nachteile:

what I like the least, is that it is not available for some platforms as free software, and does not allow to see how it would work in that system

Comments on Costoint

Vorteile:

I find Costpoint to be the most effective and comprehensive Government Cost Accounting system available. Contains many related back office functions that are integrated within the system. It is an government approved system.

Nachteile:

User interface needs improvement for non finance and accounting users. It should be easier to use for basic functions such as daily timesheets, expense reports, and approvals of these two items.

Costpoint is an extremely powerful project based accounting system

Vorteile:

The flexibility it provides. With both private and public clients, we are required to provide invoices to clients in many different formats, and some project setups can be quite complicated. Costpoint allows us the flexibility we need to manage our projects effectively and also meet our client's needs. We also love the extensibility tool introduced with Costpoint 7 that has allowed us to customize the software in order to enforce many of our internal procedures and business rules.

Nachteile:

Because of it's flexibility, it can be complicated, which leads to errors. We hear from our new users that systems they worked on previously provided more of a standard workflow that guided them through the project setup process. We realize this is very difficult to do with some many different project setup requirements, and we've tried to accomplish some of this through the extensibility tool.

COSTPOINT IS PRETTY AWESOME

Kommentare: After using it for over a year, I am noticing that a lot of the processes are streamlined which helps with accurate accounting of POs and the information stored for vendors.

Vorteile:

I like the fact that their interfaces are able to communicate with each other. I also like the ease of use when using the software. It is honestly cut an dry and if you have used various SAP before, you should not have an issue with this one. I transitioned from the US Army using GCSS-Army and the interfaces in costpoint were virtually the same.

Nachteile:

I like the software, but my company does not or wants to ay for all the modules needed, so I feel as though I cannot use Costpoint to its full potential as I feel it can be used. I hope after this conference I am able to go back to my Company's President and change his mind.

Wow!

Vorteile:

I'm still looking. Give me more time, I'm sure it's there somewhere. My accounting department sold this to the company as an upgrade.

Nachteile:

Ok. My firm used to use the time & expense for timekeeping and concur for expenses; great user experience there. Then we switched to costpoint 60 days ago. It reminds me of a slapped together MS Access database. The interface is awful, just awful. Why didn't Deltek just keep the time/expense user interface? Deltek Time/Expesne had mobile options, I've yet to find that for costpoint (..come back, your going the wrong way!!). As a manager, approving sheets is no picnic either and heaven for bit I want to look at an employee across 2 pay periods (deltek expense you clicked an arrow, costpoint you double or triple your clicks for the same task). And then there's the Expense module in costpoint, oh my. I have no idea what I'm looking at sometimes. You have to download the attachments to view them instead of opening inline for quick reference (clunky). There doesn't seem to be any sort of natural workflow for the expense reports. There's a bunch of links and buttons that I don't need. And why not just have an approval button for managers? All I've ever found is a "perform selected task" button. Not intuitive at all from a company that aims at setting the pace. Or.... maybe my firm botched the rollout?

Simple software everyone understands

Kommentare: Deltek helps us take care of our timesheets in short order, with very helpful search and report functions to boot.

Vorteile:

I always like how easy it is to use. I create favorites so I don't even have to search for the right codes - they're just right there. And the web pages load very quickly on our awful work computers!

Nachteile:

Depending on how your company set it up, it can be confusing to find your codes initially... but all they have to do is give them to you and then it's super easy.

Need improvement with standard reports

Vorteile:

Ease of movement around system. The query function is a great way to filter info.

Nachteile:

The standard reports are very poor. I wonder if they consulted actual users and asked what they needed. Has forced us to use cognos query and writer which is not user friendly. There are standard reports such as dispatch lists that should be part of the package.

Costpoint from BRM viewpoint

Kommentare: Great software overall

Vorteile:

Ease to learn and easy to use screen and download data

Nachteile:

Incomplete error messages and missing edits.

Costpoint - A+ for DCAA compliance, a D for all else

Kommentare: Costpoint sets the standard for project accounting and indirect rate application and reporting. But Costpoint has none of the features that users love in other ERP systems, like drill down reports, modifiable reports, paperless processing, budget setup, easy bank reconciliations, etc. Users of Quickbooks, Dynamics and others will miss these features.

Vorteile:

Project and indirect rate applicaton accounting & reporting

Nachteile:

Much more expensive than comparable solutions. Extremely high lifecycle expense. You will buy this software every year with maintenance. And growing is expensive with employee based fees.

System

Vorteile:

Very easy to use and easy to learn’ very robust system from the beginning of a project all the way to the end

Nachteile:

Flexibility sometimes is not your best, if you set up a project wrong you got live with it until it end

I have used Deltek on the Project side and the Accounting side. Very positive experience!

Vorteile:

The software is intuitive and very easy to use. All modules seem to flow together from project set up to billing.

Nachteile:

There is not very many things that I do not like about Deltek Costpoint. Compared to other accounting software it is the best!

Using Deltek Costpoint

Vorteile:

Ease of use for end user. Very useful for finance and cost reporting. Ability to manage inventory, receiving, orders and configuration.

Nachteile:

Need the ability to link to other software for downstream functionality. Such as MES or ERP systems.

Using Deltek is by far the Worst Part of my Day

Kommentare: If you miss the 90's, Costpoint is the product for you. Inspired by timeless Windows Vista design this is a "glossy buttons and drop-shadows" galore.
Escape your mundane day-to-day activity, and embark on an adventure trying to log your hours.

Vorteile:

It's nice to talk to someone out of my department once in a while. Since the product is not usable, I get a lot of help from our accounting.

Nachteile:

I can't think of a product more "Frankenstein" than this ... it's a collection of fragmented features. Terrible usability, poor design and implementation including: 1. Tracking hours is overly complex 2. Help is lacking or outdated 3. Interface/workflow design is terrible (full of meaningless popups, lacks instructions, poor labels) 4. Update Password workflow is unnecessarily complex

User since 1999

Kommentare: From the initial setup till now a strong asset in the Project Setup and Billing Modules. I look forward to the continued enhancement in CostPoint and improvements that allow us to meet the DOD requirements.

Vorteile:

Allows us to meet government requirements both in CLIN, ACRN and contract limitations.

Nachteile:

Does not maintain Zero Invoices that are required by DCMA, The retroactive rate adjustments still need improvements to work in the system.

Costpoint Review

Kommentare: Costpoint is our financial system and it works well for us tracking our government contracts.

Vorteile:

How the different modules are integrated .

Nachteile:

The way that hot fixes/patches are released, too cumbersome to apply at times.

I've used CostPoint to track recorded work time.

Kommentare: It makes it easy to keep track of your recorded work time.

Vorteile:

Once you get the hang of it, it's fairly easy to update your time keeping and sign, as well as check what your available leave balance is.

Nachteile:

Adding new programs to your worksheet is not that intuitive, and some of the menu's can feel a bit complex and unclear as to what they accomplish.
