Über Phrase Localization Platform
Memsource ist das Übersetzungsmanagementsystem für globale Unternehmen, die die Lokalisierungseffizienz verbessern möchten.
I like simplicity and accuracy. It allows me to spare a lot of time.
I get why they're there, but it impedes the flow of my work. I also don't care for the very fuzzy matches the software sometimes automatically inserts.

A very user-friendly CAT tool
Vorteile:
The easiness of use; Customer support - always on-time and quick response; 90% of answers regarding problems and issues can be searchable via google and solved; Subscription can be renewed whenever the user pleases (like every 3 months even); The company and software are always improving and adding new features; Translation memories can be uploaded into TRADOS; Traspdf is incorporated into the Memsource; If you are a starting translator, Memsource should be first CAT tool to get used to as it it is the easiest one in use; Cloud-based; Fantastic MT - the best I've encountered so far.
Nachteile:
TRADOS project files cannot be normally incorporated into the Memsource ( I would like to have that option, then I could get rid of TRADOS); Cannot compare to the TRADOS functionality (therefore, sometimes, Memsource loses TRADS); A lot of vendors use other CATs, therefore, I cannot use Memsource fully.

Seamless Localization Tool for New Generation Multi Country Product Development
Kommentare: Our experience with Phrase has been an outstanding one, and we have recommended Phrase as an integral part of our Agile DevOps tooling for apps that have localization needs.
Vorteile:
The things I liked the most about Phrase are - 1. The APIs to integrate with the DevOps CI/CD pipeline. 2. The In App Reviewer and Translator SDK that enabled In app review and translations for Portals. Would like to see this extended to the Mobile Apps too 3. The ability to default locales to a master locale 4. The ability to manage Translation Jobs 5. Last but not the least, the Product Support team of Phrase is always very quick to respond to your queries and requests for support and always provide a satisfactory resolution. All of the above put together really makes Phrase a great new generation localization tool for Multi Country product development
Nachteile:
The Phrase Portal at first used to be a little less intuitive (back in 2017), but they were quick to redesign it. I would also like to see a more advanced set of reports and analytics on key management that a Product Manager could use into the future.
User friendly platform
Kommentare: I am satisfied because it is not necessary to buy CAT tool, but I can work with the credentials I become from a translation agency.
Vorteile:
It enables to have many different accounts for different translation agencies.
Nachteile:
I didn't understand if it is possible to import a translation memory of Trados Studio.
Not a Good Service for JP-EN Text Localization
Vorteile:
I like the fact that I can export files in Memsource to a format that I can actually work in and use the tools of my trade. This is genuinely the only thing I like about the program.
Nachteile:
Compared to Google Sheets, this program is simply for managers who value quantity over quality because it provides them an overview of how many scripts are done without them needing to go in and actually read any text. As a worker in the workflow, I cannot view any documents without the potential of a major technical issue requiring a ticket to fix (to which the "fix" was to create an entirely new project), cannot provide feedback to translators as they are working. The use of translation memory or automated translation or repeat line auto-translation is not a welcome feature in the visual novel sphere, as context dictates how a line may read. For languages where context is not as necessary to understand a line, perhaps this program would be useful, but for the Japanese-English pairing, it absolutely is not. I am unable to use any of the regular expression or spell check tools without exporting the document to a difficult-to-format DOCX file (if you modify something incorrectly, it will not re-import), and then I cannot upload the completed file and mark it as complete because then I have to manually mark every edited line as complete. And while marking these lines as complete, I have to wait 10-30 seconds every 50 lines while Memsource works to catch up with me marking lines as complete. Google Sheets is free, has more utilities, and is more user-friendly to navigate and operate.

Although we are sorry to see that our platform doesn't fit your use case, we thank you for your feedback - having access to different points of view, both positive and critical, makes it possible for us to develop software that is in line with the expectations and needs of our customers. You're correct that our solution is primarily designed with enterprise clients in mind and it is therefore possible that some other, smaller-scale use cases won't be able to benefit from our feature-set. In any case, thanks again for your feedback. We do appreciate it.

A Great Tool For Text Management
Kommentare: Memsource has made it much easier for me to keep product-, project- and client-specific vocabulary consistent over time. Whenever there has been a technical problem, the company has provided quick and efficient customer service. I have found Memsource the best product for my specific needs at a very reasonable price point.
Vorteile:
I have been using Memsource as a translation tool since 2016 and it has continually improved. The company has added useful features while not overwhelming (or irritating) me with constant updates. For the most part I do translations that are not suitable for raw machine translation; however, Memsource has excellent tools for creating translation memories and glossaries that help me keep track of the chosen terminology for any given client or project over time. I also find that jobs and projects are uploaded, tracked and organized in an intuitive way that works very well for me.
Nachteile:
The only challenge I've encountered is the discrepancy between how the cloud version and the desktop version of the software work. They're both good, but there are small differences that slow me down. In the end, I primarily use the cloud version, reverting to the desktop software only when I'm travelling and therefore working without an internet connection.

Thanks for your great feedback, Bonnie! It's so helpful to hear what's working well for you, and also that differences between the desktop and mobile editor are slowing you down, we'll pass that on internally. Otherwise, happy to hear that you're finding Memsource to be a helpful tool to keep your translations consistent!
Uploaded words count toward your quota, not translated words, uploaded words.
Kommentare: Support is poor. Generic issues will be slow. More involved things. Glacial.
Vorteile:
In general it is an acceptable system with one deal-breaking flaw.
Nachteile:
You have an allotted quota of words you can upload. And it counts every word. If you are uploading words for an offer let's say that counts fully toward your quota. So, you are pitching for a large project, well you are blowing your quota with no return. So that means we have to run Trados in addition to prepare offers. In our case, there was a bug and we needed to upload and re-upload a file. That was a large file, and with that one file, we used-up our entire quota for the coming three month period as we had just paid. That is very unlikely.

Hey there, we know adjusting to our new pricing plan might take some trial and error and we apologize for the adjustment period! Our new pricing model might have raised concerns but we’ve listened to our LSP customers and adjusted pricing and volumes in our dedicated LSP plans to better accommodate quoting.
Best CAT Tool I've worked with so far
Vorteile:
The way it handles working directly online with the web-based tool, while allowing you to choose between that and the desktop app feels great. Also I love how clean the tool is, while others have so much visual info in them that you often can't find the one thing you want.
Nachteile:
I wish the QA was more customizable as it often finds too many issues that are not really issues. Also, I wish there was a way to do a "per line" character limit. It seems not CAT Tool as done it yet and it would be a HUGE thing in the game localization industry.
Freelancer review
Kommentare: Good. Mainly use it for MTPE. Most of my clients (agencies) now work with Memsource.
Vorteile:
I mainly use this for machine translation post editing. The quality of the output is always good and the text is easy to edit.
Nachteile:
I use Memsource through agencies, so there are certain features that I don't use because it's done by the agency. Sometimes autopropogate seems to be missing when I do a normal (non-MTPE) project. Maybe this is because of the settings configured by the agency itself. I'm not sure about this.
Excellent software
Kommentare: I would go for it anyday. I believe it is designed for people.
Vorteile:
It allows a cross platform and different file types. Free version is an excellent option for starters.
Nachteile:
Free version deletes your term bases. Of it were mot for this, I would not even think about another CAT tool.

Eslam Khair Phraseapp Review
Kommentare: My overall experience was generally positive. the app provides a good service that should benefits many project in today is open world. I only wish that the little cons could be fixed to give better experience to the users. Translating is an annoying process to begin with, and most of our translators are volunteers. so we cannot expect them to deal with lots of issues and the easier and faster the translation process for them the more they can help us.
Vorteile:
The idea of the app is great. The design and features are very well done too. It's easy to use as you can see the material needs to be translated under the language of the text and the other language on the right side where the boxes are editable to allow adding the translation of the text. I do like that it also divides the work into projects and locales so you can assign different collaborators to the same project and each one to the language they are fluent in without having to give them additional unneeded access. I also like that it display the locales into the untranslated which is very helpful if you need to finish the translation then review after without having to go through the whole thing . Then you can see the whole language by clicking on the name of the language green bar, so you can review. I also like the feature that you can download materials even though I have not had the chance to use that feature.
Nachteile:
One of the things I struggled with while using the app, was the search feature which defaulted to something that I didn't want. and every time I change the search, all the pages change and I had to go back and review all pages from the beginning. Another issues that was not fun of, is the save option. I was not sure if I had to click on save after each translation or after each page, and why doesn't auto save instead of having to work long time and then forgetting to save? Another thing which may have not been the app problem, is the codes. in some of the english text that needed translation, the text was just html codes that didn't really need translation not sure if that was problem of the uploaded files or an issue with the app
Nice and easy to integrate tool to manage, distribute and control translations for Apps
Vorteile:
The user friendly Web-UI offers a variety of nice features that are mostly self-explaning. All common types of translations are supported. We use it for Android, iOS and partially Web and it works quite nice. A simple PULL via CLI (Command Line Interface), and you are set. Imports via Excel, XML, localizable.string and many more formats included. Plurals are supported as well. The support is awesome. If you have a question, usually you get answers at the same day. Great! I recommend PhraseApp if you would develop a multi-lingual app.
Nachteile:
The support of iOS and Android in the same project is a little bit tricky. You must work with tags, that are not importable. To offer context to the translators is a hard part (use comments, screenshots - but you should upload it manually. A possibility via API is given, but we didn't made the effort to implement our own logic for that). When an error happened at import, it is very difficult to revert the last change. The changes are tagged, but it isn't intuitive to me and my team how to revert. In large teams PhraseApp is pricy. We use the 50 Users-Package.
Excellent Translation Software
Vorteile:
Very user friendly and easy to use. I have instantly become familiar with it and when I had a problem, support always where there to help me out within minutes.
Nachteile:
For Maltese MT is still quite far off to achieving something reliable. Also, in case of translation breakdown, sometimes it is not fair as there could be many mistakes in 100% segments which have to be translated from scratch and be paid peanuts for it as a result. Also tags and small punctuation, or uppercase/lowercase changes can be very daunting but for some reason they are marked 99%.
Antwort von Phrase

Thank you for your feedback around tags and translation scores - that's very helpful! Sorry to hear that MT isn't great for Maltese yet. I'm sure it will improve with time :). Otherwise, happy to hear you're enjoying Memsource and have had a positive experience with our support team!
Great CAT tool for a company of any size
Kommentare: We transitioned from Fluency (another CAT tool) to Memsource, because our primary LSP uses Memsource. It's been only a little over half year since we started using Memsource, but I like it a lot. It offers great value. Easy on-boarding (including the interaction with the account manager, who answered a lot of questions from us), and great customer support (very responsive and knowledgeable... I guess his name is Mark.) Thank you, Memsource! We hope to be a long-time customer.
Vorteile:
Highly intuitive, easy to use features/UI (which are not too many but not too few, just right).
Nachteile:
Could be better if it has an enhanced "alignment" with the TMs created by other platforms.
PhraseApp streamlined our localisation process
Vorteile:
PhraseApp managed to completely formalise and streamline our localisation process to a point where localisation is no problem at all. Every person involved in the project profits from this tool: - The devs are able to easily create new keys and at stub translations. - The management is able to correct mistakes without code changes required. - The stakeholder himself can use PhraseApp to customise the strings further as he sees fit witouht the devs having to take an action. - Always up to date translations using our ci or by performing one terminal command.
Nachteile:
I currently don‘t see anything too bad with this service. But maybe a feature request: A PhraseApp SDK that allows for changing localisation even after deploying? Not a con but this would make an all ready great product to an amazing product.
Can't work without it
Kommentare: I've been using it for years, originally for my agency clients, and then also with my own account. I also have Trados but unless the customer insists on its use, I only ever use Memsource.
Vorteile:
Easy to use, without a whole bunch of features in the editor that just get in the way and which I never use. Does not use up PC space and is available everywhere. I can't work without it.
Nachteile:
The saving of multiple targets for a source, for instance with typos, and how complicated it is to edit these out of the database. It should be possible to set up somewhere that targets get automatically overwritten if editing and confirmed again.
Great tool for translating extensive projects into several languages
Vorteile:
We've used Phraseapp for more than two years now, and we are very happy with it. It is very easy to use so that new translators do not need to be trained, they can simply start translating. With the smart integration of asking for the verification of translations, translators can proof-read each others' translations without missing anything. It also allows you to export/import which makes it possible to search and replace certain phrases easily if needed. Phraseapp is a great tool to translate extensive projects into several languages and to easily update those languages.
Crucial for speeding up!
Vorteile:
I use it very often for interpreting assignments when I need a fast translation of speeches and presentations. It has become crucial and helps very much when we receive last-minute materials.
Nachteile:
I am very satisfied with the value for money and all the improvements that were made in the last two years.

Good platform to manage and curate your content
Kommentare: We use PhraseApp as a CMS for our worldwide marketplace. We also use Localise, but PhraseApp has quite more features. It only lacks some good UX improvements to make it very very good. We almost don't use their built-in translations system, as they're quite weak. It's better to have a dedicated agency/company for that sole purpose, as you will want to give feedback about translations to make them better for the next order, but you can't do that with PhraseApp. Overall, a very good tool!
Vorteile:
- You can manage special pluralizations (such as happens with Polish language) in a very easy way - It allows you to have various locales (aka languages) and it's fast to switch between them - You have a history of changes and you can see who did it, and it's easy to revert to a previous one - You can give individual permissions to users - Super good customer support when you have doubts or any problem
Nachteile:
- You can order translations via PhraseApp, but the quality it's not so good (you receive them fast, though)

Best solution for a complete translation workflow
Kommentare: Our main problem before phrase was, that every time someone wanted to change translations a develop needed to check out the project, change the translation file create a pull-request, merge, release... This is time consuming and not a real fun task for the developer but also for the person who needs to wait too long for a simple change. With phrase you can establish a nice and easy workflow for handling translations.
Vorteile:
Very good integration into our existing development processes and a nice user interface for translators and product people maintaining the translations. It is a straight forward product mostly self-explaining with innovative features and a developer friendly ecosystem.
Nachteile:
We had some minor issues with the branching model and our ci setup but were able to easyly workaround and integrate it.
Essential for localization string organizing without chaos
Kommentare: As a designer in the small-scale startup, I have to review the text used in our product from time to time during development. That often involved hundreds of string. For example, we finished a massive translation with help from a contract. I have to review all text and find out what's missing. I relied on Phraseapp's interface to make it a relatively easy job. It would cost ten times of effort without Phraseapp. The iteration happens all the time during development. Without Phraseapp, I can't imagine how I can make them done on time.
Vorteile:
The UI is clean and easy to use. We usually have tens and thousands of strings in our developing apps. Phraseapp provides an excellent interface to organize them in one place. You can easily re-write a string, and then just tap a button to next string to continue editing. It's really life-saving when you are dealing with the giant string table. Another cool thing is that Phraseapp supports plural form editing, and it fits well with iOS and Android's plural form formats. That's essential for app development.
Nachteile:
The interface is designed for desktop and barely usable on the phone. Phraseapp complies 2-column UI in their interface, and it shrinks the spaces in mobile phones. Just a suggestion that they can do some responsive design in it.
Super easy to use
Kommentare: Good
Vorteile:
You can hit the ground running, there's virtually no time wasted in learning how to use the product
Nachteile:
price structure - the pricing is too high. It's gone from a free product to a very expensive one.

Happy user
Kommentare: Great experience, no reason to check for an alternative.
Vorteile:
Memsource does pretty much everything I would expect from a CAT tool. Support is super reactive when we have any questions. We are using it on a daily basis, we couldn't live without Memsource.
Nachteile:
We had some struggle to use the Machine Translation feature at the beginning. But we had a meeting with Memsource, and everything was crystal clear afterwards (again, great support).
Very useful and efficient for small & big companies
Kommentare: It's time saving and saves all our translations in one tool. I easily can use the data saved in Phrase with other tools like Zendesk. I would strongly recommend it to any company dealing with translations coming from different departments.
Vorteile:
It is very easy to create a project and then share it to get the work done. In my company, one project involves many different departments and PhraseApp makes it a seamless and efficient way to get the work done with just one link. I had surely saved us a lot of time. I can remember before Phrase when we used shared docs, allowing different accesses one by one and then doing all the monkey task manually. This has definitely improved our workflow and efficiency.
Nachteile:
It took me a long time to discover the "history" tool with suggestions from previous translations. It is very useful and I would have liked to use it earlier.
Awesome tool to manage translations and multi language systems
Kommentare: By properly setting up teams I don't need to worry about who to reach within the organisation in order to get some translation done. Since we integrated Phrase with our CI/CD pipelines we don't need to be dependant on other people translating texts anymore and delaying our releases.
Vorteile:
How easy it is to setup multiple teams and ensure the required parties are notified when a new translation is required on a specific key! Intuitive and fast interface! In my case, Phrase's flexible API makes it easy to integrate with other flows and include translations in automated build processes, for instance.
Nachteile:
Nothing really. Since we started using Phrase it improved a lot our workflows.
