Phenomenal partner, robust product

Vorteile:

Panopto's ease of use combined with the rich feature set make it one of the best tools out there for large-scale recording capture and viewing. Users can bring in multiple cameras, mics, screens and applications with just a few clicks and create content that they can share with a chosen group.

Nachteile:

The one drawback I have encountered is using the advanced editor as opposed to the basic editor. The advanced version can only be accessed using Internet Explorer.

Excellent Security, UI, and file management

Vorteile:

Panopto's integration with our university's LMS is vital to keeping our video lectures secure, but also easily accessible to viewers who are enrolled in a course. The UI is also highly favored by viewers.

Nachteile:

Small learning curve/training for new admins or instructors who have no background in video. Support documents on the Panopto site are great, but it would help to have one-on-one training for new admin users.

Panopto is a great video hosting tool, but the other features need major work!

Vorteile:

Panopto is great at hosting videos which is its main function. We needed a new video hosting tool at the university because our previous tool (Techsmith Knowmia) was going away permanently. We loved Knowmia and wish we could have kept it, but I digress. Panopto was the best tool available after piloting and testing several others. The training and support that Panopto provides enterprise customers are really good. We got personalized training sessions along with weekly webinars. We still get weekly support if needed. The auto-captioning function is also really helpful and quite good at captioning correctly on its own.

Nachteile:

Panopto editing and recording are sub-par. The user interface is beyond confusing! I would rather use a different tool to record/screen-share videos than mess with Panopto. Editing is just about useless using Panopto. The ability to share and collaborate on videos is confusing. The folder structure system makes no sense.

Very good online desktop tool

Kommentare: A lovely free tool that comes highly recommended. Easy to use and set up. No need for any downloading of programs. Go to the website and away you go.

Vorteile:

- easy to use - good functionality- easy to download and keep files- works well when recording from google meet or zoom etc if you dont want to pay for them

Nachteile:

- sometimes a little confusing if its on or notbut otherwise it is a great tool and saves you having to take notes in conference calls

Panopto Creates a Seamless Experience to Create, Distribute, and View Course Lectures

Kommentare: The auto-scheduling and auto-publishing of videos to specific Canvas courses is extremely valuable. Other players in this space currently require manually publishing.

Vorteile:

Panopto is tightly integrated with the Canvas LMS. We have been piloting this product for four months. We are able to schedule the lecture captures, associate each video with the instructor and appropriate Canvas course, and automatically publish the videos, so that students can review the course content at a later time on nearly any type of device.

Nachteile:

There is a cost associated with piloting this software, but it's not too excessive. Many companies offer a completely free trial period. It would be nice to check it out for free.

Panopto Review

Kommentare: I appreciate it for what it is. I think it could be improved, but that won't stop me from using it.

Vorteile:

This software allows me to watch lectures from graduate school online and through our Canvas course homepage. I appreciate that it allows me to determine the playback speed.

Nachteile:

It is not extremely user friendly, especially from a mobile standpoint. I wish it was easier to use on mobile devices.

Does what it's supposed to!

Vorteile:

It's a great tool for recording our classes and lectures so students can access them later. A fantastic way for students who happen to miss a class to get caught up!

Nachteile:

I don't think it's a secret that the web browser experience is lacking in all but IE. Most of us are Mac users and Safari is never happy with Panopto.

Very easy to work with and watch

Vorteile:

Clicking back and forth on the slides is very easy to do, so you can skip to a certain part of the lecture if you remember what slide you took notes on. This is great for my classes which have excruciatingly long lectures, and getting through them and finding the key points can be extremely useful.

Nachteile:

Of course, since it's a different software than what others normally use, it can be hard to integrate this with what we already use rather than just sending a YouTube link. The E-learning environment that I work in uses YouTube much more than Panopto, which is probably due to this.

great for recording managing and sharing videos

Kommentare: I have used Panopto to use some of my lecturers to go with the power point slides for a class I was teaching in class but needed to be transitioned into a virtual platform and was satisfied with the features and ease with which I was able to do it

Vorteile:

Recently used Panopto to facilitate e learning as I had to transform course content of a class that was supposed to be taught in-class to maintain social distancing. It was fairly easy to record some of my lectures to be incorporated into the power point presentations. It would have been otherwise difficult to explain some of the points without the aid of Panopto.

Nachteile:

I really have not come across something that I would like to particularly mention in this context. Editing the videos were a little troublesome but overall I think it did a good job.

Great for remote students

Kommentare: I like it for what it is. It makes it easy for recording and posting lectures.

Vorteile:

I like how easy it is to record class lectures and rewatch them after class. This makes it easy for remote students to get the same information as those who can regularly attend.

Nachteile:

when compared to some other video recording software, it has very minimal features. It's mainly just a screen capture.

Panopto is a really great video/recording tool

Kommentare: Our institution has really benefitted from having Panopto as our enterprise lecture capture solution and adoption has soared since the quarantine--it's extremely useful for online learning, as well as hybrid and flipped classroom situations.

Vorteile:

We really like the versatility of the product. The results can range from a simple narrated presentation to a multi-sourced production. Access to the sessions (or folders of sessions) can be tightly controlled or open to the public, as well as anywhere in between. It's nice that sessions can be recorded offline and then uploaded to the server at the creator's convenience. There are some really cool integrations available, too.

Nachteile:

There are some features that can only be turned on/off system-wide, so a bit more granularity to the feature permissions would be nice. The vendor's development and documentation heavily favors Windows, so Mac users are subject to fewer options/features, as well as less self-help. Panopto offers integrations with other applications, which is great, but our impression is that the developers and technical documentation writers are not too familiar with the practical use of some of those apps (good example is Blackboard), so the published documentation for the integrations is not great and doesn't quite match up with reality.

Video platform for online lectures and presentations

Kommentare: Ease of use tampered by long uploads but once it works - it works.

Vorteile:

It was fairly easy to use for asynchronous and live classes and presentations, especially for E-learning. Easy to upload the videos. Good integration with Moodle

Nachteile:

Took some time to upload videos and would like to have some control over settings on permissions and viewing.

A Positive Panopto Experience

Kommentare: Overall, I was amazed with Panopto as a student. I am also an educator and would love to use this for my students to actively engage them in content and to have checks for understanding as they learn virtually.

Vorteile:

I like that this software allows for individuals to actively participate through video learning. As opposed to just passively watching a video, the option to embed questions that stop the video before answering allows for viewers to make sure that they are paying attention and comprehending content.

Nachteile:

As a user, I wish that there was a way for you to review all of your questions and answers at the end of the video, or if there was a way to download and print/share a summary of this information.

Freezing

Kommentare: University Student, it is vital for my studies and revision so when it fails it is hugely disappointing and a major inconvenience.

Vorteile:

Good when working, I can watch clearly and sound is good.

Nachteile:

When something that causes the replay to stop, e.g I lose internet connection, I can never reload the replay video. After this occurrence whenever I click on the replay, all I get is a black screen and the video will never load again. This is infuriating as the replay is then lost to me forever. Major inconvenience and this makes the service useless. I try everything to reload the video replay, signing in and out, turning off computer, but still when I load the replay I only get a black screen that never loads. Major bug that needs to be fixed.

Better tool for content management, live streaming easy and secure

Vorteile:

Nachteile:

- Comment/ class participation should be included. With this, it can be the best classroom tool as well - Better UI/UX such as class folder

Great tool for videos

Nachteile:

Not quite as easy to use as zoom but then it is free and has no real limits so just requires a bit of learning and away you go!

Screencapture for eduction

Kommentare: I use Panopto every week. It is essential for online classes, recording lectures, and posting. The wait time between recording and availability online ranges from a couple of hours to 6 hours depending on length and captioning. It is tolerable for the scope of my classes.
It is not as flexible as other expensive tools, but it is sufficient to support students' learning.

Vorteile:

The software is easy to implement. It interfaces seamlessly with the LMS (Learning Management System). It also integrates with Zoom allowing me to post closed captioning. Close captions are mandated by the state.

Nachteile:

Maintaining the folders is not easy. The quality of the captions is poor especially for science classes.

A very useful tool for students and staff

Vorteile:

It provides a solid platform to provide recorded learning content to staff and students. It can be used as a lecture capture system or a desktop recorder. There are more advanced features like quizzing, basic editing tools and the ability to insert external media like YouTube.

Nachteile:

Expensive and somewhat complicated to set up. The editing is functional but basic although this does allow you to remove sections of your recording. It would be nice to add additional elements such as titles etc.

Great training tool!

Kommentare: Great experience so far, has saved me so much time and streamlined training process for staff.

Vorteile:

I am a school nurse and I was able to easily record safety presentations so staff can access at their convenience and saved me from having to do repeated in person presentations. I am not tech savvy at all but have had no trouble setting up and using. Staff has not reported they are very happy to be able to do these mandated trainings at their leisure.

Nachteile:

Staff has mentioned the audio sometimes is out of sync when using mobile device or ipad. Videos can also be slow to load at times.

Good tool for recording video tutorials

Kommentare: Overall I liked how easy it was to record and edit the tutorial video I created.

Vorteile:

I like the advanced features that are available and that it allows me to create nice video tutorials for internal audiences.

Nachteile:

The user interface feels a bit clunky and the sharing options take some time to be found. Other than that the tool is pretty good.

OF GREAT HELP

Vorteile:

I am studying a master and we use panoptom, we are all hallucinated, they record the classes in an interactive way and then we can review them at home when we want, see the power points in detail, choose which camera we can see on the screen; teacher, blackboard, P, Point, youtube, videos. To review doubts or prepare exams is like returning to receive the class for you only when it is best for you, and also write a word or text said during the class and you will be immediately looking for it.

Nachteile:

Nothing negative I can say. It seems an incredible tool for all students

Easy to Use, Edit and Share Video

Kommentare: This a great way to collaborate on any project that requires video and confidentiality.

Vorteile:

I like that it was very easy to set up recording and save videos. It's also easy to edit videos and to share them with colleagues.

Nachteile:

In these Covid days, we end up recording video from zoom meetings, and there is a weird echo in the audio that makes it difficult to understand.

Recording 101

Kommentare: I used Panopto in the past, but truthfully, our company moved to another tool that is better suited for our needs. However, while using Panopto, I found the features/functionalities quite easy to use and for what I needed to accomplish, I found it the right tool for me. It is nice to have an easy to use tool with support. I find it impressive how much support I find from the Panopto team, consistently receive emails about updates, etc.
