Can't beat what you get for a free cross-platform Project Planning Software

Kommentare: I used to use Gantter, but then they started charging. I have tried ProjectLibre but it is a bit steep of a learning curve. This software hits what I need which is free and simple to use. This gets the job done everytime for my 3 month customer projects. I only use about two-three resources which makes my planning a bit simpler. The webpage export is great as is the png output. Makes it easy to share.

Vorteile:

I am mainly a Linux user and this software along with ProjectLibre are the only Gantt Software I can find that isn't web-based or charged for. This is very easy to get up and going and export a simple project roadmap for customer review.

Nachteile:

The UI is still probably a work in progress. I don't really mind that much but it doesn't blow you away. There are not tons of features, but has everything I use. I am not a Project Manager though.

GanttProject a basic alternative to manage a project

Kommentare: I have done five small projects with the tool, it has been useful and excellent at the level of expressing the goals of those involved, the participants, the time of development of each task, activity, types of associated deliverables and the participants of each of the activities , level of responsibility and hours of dedication, really that is very useful in terms of the general visualization of the goal.
Unfortunately I can not automatically define in this software the levels of resource overload, the critical path of the processes and the possible bottlenecks of the process.
In general, the software is good and practical at your level.
I can define and design a project for free and manage the main structure of the project, share it with the people involved and they can deploy it by installing the tool in any existing operating system

Vorteile:

If you want to create or manipulate a Gantt chart without having to pay for the license of a commercial program, this open source program is a good option because it is easily manipulated, the menu bars are very similar to other programs aimed at managing of projects and instinctively you get what you're looking to develop. It is universal since it allows you to import and export files made in MSProject and CSV, with the software you can perform the PERT without problems, although the graphic representation is very generic and unattractive, the performance of the program in projects of academic or small scale is outstanding. You can install in Windows, Mac and Linux, It has good compatibility. It is free download, although the developers appreciate some donation, very suitable for students, universities, companies that handle small projects and little staff. Does not consume many computer resources, the software weighs only 14MB.

Nachteile:

It allows you to allocate the human resource and time, but does not perform complex analysis of those components, you can not easily identify who is overloading tasks, where is the critical path? What processes are the bottlenecks? The design is very primitive, lacks development, but it is like that small car that allows you to reach the goal at a moderate speed The printing of the diagrams is cumbersome, you must work with care in the design of the printing area, the software is associated more with the visualization than with the printing of reports. GanttChart is not compatible with the spring XER format, it must be passed through MSproject

Good Alternative for project management

Vorteile:

The initial setup is very easy which is a very good aspect of it. The software is very simple and charts are easy to make. The resource management is simple which was the most i used in this software.

Nachteile:

There are not much cons in this software, it is simple and easy to use. It would be great to have a mobile application of it.

GanttProject is one of the best local tools for project management, it allows you to visualize your projects in a graphic way, being more pleasant for introductions to your team or clients, opting for a simple image of a complex system, helping your presentation and understanding, showing in graphical ranges how much it takes to develop each task, group that participates and more, all this of its more known tool the gantt diagram, is a very unique way to organize the projects and facilitate their understanding and progression.

Nachteile:

One of the most important disadvantages is that the bars do not indicate the amount of work but only the time invested, this does not allow to see how many resources will participate in the task, the case can be presented where a shorter bar actually takes much more work and personnel involved which brings confusion or detracts from the diagram.

Kommentare: The software serves me well, although I still miss some features that I complement with other programs.

Vorteile:

The software has a clean and intuitive interface. It doesn't have all the features of MS Project, but for a free software it's quite complete. I can keep track of the tasks on it and set up the precedence without any problems.

Nachteile:

Some information takes a lot of clicks to enter, especially the custom column data you enter. Developers could simplify the layout.

Wonderful Tool to Have in Your Business Toolkit

Vorteile:

I use GanttProject on my Macbook and it has been my go-to tool when I look to create a project timeline. The software is free so there is no excuse not to try it. I have used MS Project in the past and I would say that GanttProject is easier to use (especially for smaller projects) and definitely more economical than paying for Project.

Nachteile:

I have no cons. It does its intended job extremely well.

Must have project management tool

Kommentare: This is a must have for project managers. It will make your life much easier, and your employees much more efficient.

An easy way to make gantt charts

Kommentare: Ease of visualization and simplicity.

Vorteile:

Easy to create tasks, you can create dependencies between them and you can include elements such as costs, differentiate tasks by colors, define their duration among others. You can easily see the progress of each task or the project in general.

Nachteile:

This program is very easy to use, however it still has some defects when it is running, a disadvantage is that it does not allow the printing of the diagrams pert. It does not allow to see free days assigned to specific resources within the Gannt chart.

This free-to-use planner is as good as some paid-for apps & really quick to pick up.

Kommentare: I could plan a personal project without having to go buy a package I'm not likely to use frequently.

Vorteile:

It does all the basic stuff you'd expect, is very intuitive and comes without the annoying "I know better than you" features you get with a certain popular paid-for planner. It's compatible with MS Project files & can import/export them as well as to CSVs. IT uses the common short cut keys too. It's reliable which is more than I can say for some other online apps. Updates get applied regularly and everything is still there. I got the basics of my first plan functional within a couple of hours of downloading it (100+ lines).

Nachteile:

It's a bit clunky in places e.g. when entering a new task you have to overtype the default name, but that's just a minor point.

Powerful organizational tool very simple to navigate

Kommentare: I can update my schedule in minutes, this is perfect for construction management as conditions are ever changing. I keep this up on my secondary screen 24/7!

Vorteile:

it is very easy to link tasks, add remove or edit. The overall appearance of the program is very simple but still accomplishes everything you need it to.

Nachteile:

It was a little tricky to figure out how to un link tasks from one another that were accidentally linked

Useful For Project Management

Kommentare: Using GanntChart was useful when trying to create tasks for my upcoming project. Although I was able to create a Gantt chart my first time using this software I was unable to add details and critical paths. However, training was easily accessible with a little research.

Vorteile:

I like how easy this software was able to figure. I am also impressed with how affordable this software is to use. I was able to create a Gantt chart the first day upon use of this software. This is the software of choice at my university, therefore, it must be legitimate.

Nachteile:

Adding little details to my GanttProject proved to be difficult to figure out without training. I was also unimpressed by how low quality the design is on the software itself. It is not very appealing.

Valid alternative to Microsoft Project

Vorteile:

Valid alternative to Microsoft Project, it permits to keep trace of the various tasks and provide a GANTT to the customer

Various operations are more complicated to do compared to other commercial alternatives.

Simple, Basic

I use it a MSProject substitute on my Mac.

It's free and has the basics to plan on Gantt charts. It has a clean interface and is pretty straightforward if you are familiar with gantts.

No support available. All you get is forums where you can discuss problems. Bugs here and there are common.

Best free alternative to Microsoft Project. You almost feel like using MS Project !

Sub tasks can be more visible and distinctive to main task. Report generation should have more customization options
