Fantastic Fotoware

Kommentare: Having been using FotoWare DAM products for almost 14 years its an integral part of our daily workflow. I couldn't recommend it enough and their customer support is second to none.

Vorteile:

The ease of yes and how each element is customized to suit our company's workflow.

Nachteile:

The price! When assets and how they are captured change it sometimes take a little too long for the software to catch up with elements of the new file types.

20 years working with Fotostation/Fotoweb and still going on!

Kommentare: I work with Fotostation/Fotoweb since 20 years ago and really like this software. In my last experience, I had to produce a huge book collection from the scratch during the coronavirus pandemic in a brand new company. There wasn't a physical office, staff, or platform. In 3 or 4 weeks we put everybody on board: picture researchers, graphic designers, illustrators, text editors, cartographers and book reviewers. The workflow was efficiently designed thus helping us in reaching our goal.

Vorteile:

I really like the possibility of customizing the editors, actions and collections from each client in an independent way, with an easy transition among them. I appreciate the clarity of knowing which IPTC fields we are dealing with and how to manage them. It's also pleasant to know that Fotoware is bringing to Fotoweb all the functionalities from the complete Fotostation.

Nachteile:

I dream about a platform that captures the html information (such as an image description) and automatically brings them to the IPTC fields. I imagine it should be an API to do it however I'm not certain. That´s not a trivial feature.

The most used software during the working day

Kommentare: To a significant degree, only positively

Vorteile:

I have used the programs from fotoware for more than 15 years. Being able to search and find files in seconds has been amazing.

Nachteile:

There has been a somewhat high threshold for making changes or especially upgrades to server software. This has gotten worse after we lost our local dealer network.

Extremely useful, even when using only a fraction of what it's capable of

Kommentare: Extremely positive, we managed to combine an older database on an outdated operating system with what we had set up already. It meant creating a small bespoke part ffor the software but it does exactly what we need to do.

Vorteile:

We utilise only a very small fraction of what is possible from the software. But the development team have helped find bespoke ways to incorporate what we needed the software to do. It's been easy for a variety of experiences to get to grips with and has controls in place to lock certain features down for admins to manage.

Nachteile:

There really isn't much I don't like or would say needs improving. Tiny little bits of customization in terms of different columns viewable on different pages/databases, instead of the same ones throughout each would be a nice to have. But other than that the ability to customise the vast majority is excellent.

Using FotoWare in a hospital setting

Vorteile:

The governance around image access and audit trails reports of downloaded images. Searchability of patient conditions that is essential in a teaching hospital setting. The addition of the Clinical Uploader App that allows clinicians to take their own images at the point of care 24/7.

Nachteile:

More audit functionality for reporting, linked to activity of specialty within a hospital setting.

FotoWare DAMS

Vorteile:

We get great customer service from our FotoWare vendor (Pivotal). The FotoWare product itself feels like it is regularly being developed to align with contemporary needs. It has a contemporary feel more than some other database DAMS.

Nachteile:

FotoWare don't always feel 'global'. Their webinars, collaboration and customer interactions don't feel like they aim to reach Australian customers.

Easy for users

Vorteile:

Easy to use for our employees was the most important feature

Nachteile:

Printing and screenshot from videos is poor

The complete solution for you asset management needs

Vorteile:

It solved once and for all the asset management that made the company spend a lot of workforce hours in the past.

Nachteile:

The crop issue and the Pro interface annual cost are a point of frustration for end users and administrators.

Finding images

Kommentare: as good as we are still clients ...

Vorteile:

Very stabile / easy to use (fotoweb interface) / metadata handling

Nachteile:

limited rights of main users / more individual design adaptions would be good

Fotostation Pro (local install): Great overview, fast tool, relevant functions

Vorteile:

All relevant metadata-fields is in one screen (no scroll, no tabs). Pleasant thumbnail-interface. Very fast search. Great AND-NOT search. Great Add-text-to-multiple-photos-feature. Great Find-and-replace-feature.

Nachteile:

If I manually choose two similar photos and want to enrich metadata in both: No automatic comparison of metadata. Configuration is sometimes for nerds - i.e. the text editor. Not many new functions in Fotostation Pro the recent years.

Importance of DAM in media publishing

Kommentare: Fotoware DAM is very easy to use and user like the feature

Vorteile:

Easy to setup and use integrated seamlessly with other software such as office

Nachteile:

A quite expensive for small medium company
