You can install a shop with one click on Softaculous, now very common on shared hosting. The requirements for the hosting are basic, any hosting suitable for WordPress will work fine with PrestaShop, so 5 $/€ a month is more than enough. There is an active community in many languages, normally you get free help here for basic issues and bug reports. A template for the graphic is recommended, the site will look much better with a little investment. Make sure you get support from the developper. There are free modules/plugins for most payment systems and often you can get a free module from your courier. Connecting payments and couriers is quite simple because they are well documented and supported. If you can't config your e-mail and are not interested in software, avoid trying your free e-commerce. There is little support from the headquarter, so you spend nights to understand what to do. Any site/developer can sell modules for PrestaShop, so there is no quality control.

Nice ecommerce solution, but lacks some punch

Kommentare: I liked Prestashop when I used it, but somehow I missed the extra punch I could have when developing with others platforms. I think it's a good tool, but I prefer others

Creating content is not a pleasant experience, and extending functionality to it could be complex

Vorteile:

It is a complete software for an online store administration (catalogs, products, details, etc). It is perfect for small businesses if total control of your store is what you are looking for. Great tool for people who are in the e-commerce business.

Nachteile:

It is quite difficult to understand, requires a lot of previous knowledge or of an expert to help you. It is vital to read all the documentation carefully.

Kommentare: We've developed over 50 e-commerce websites with Prestashop over the years, complex multi-boutiques, in different languages, in different countries using different currencies ... we're pretty happy with our overall experience with the software and the company.

Vorteile:

We have been working with Prestashop for the past 7 years, from 1.3 to now the 1.7 version. When it was the "only" great shopping cart software it was good. Now it's outstanding. A large community supports it with a lot of plug-ins that work and help market and manage the e-shop.

Nachteile:

Prestashop is currently going through the external plug-ins to make sure that they are compatible with eath other : which is important because we've had a couple of problems with buggy plug-ins. To be faire, they are not necessarily developed by Prestashop.

Great open-source Software

Kommentare: We are building PrestaShops since 2012 and are very satisfied with the solution. We can build nearly every special feature a user would like to have.

Vorteile:

PrestaShop is a great open source software, which allows its users to set up and build a rich online-shop to earn money on the internet. It is easy to use in the backend, it is capable of building multi-shops for more than one country and more than one language very easily and it is easy to build your own sub sites in your online-shop with the help of certain page builder modules. It is highly customizable and there are thousands of modules to choose from to make it even better and cover issues like search engine optimization, integration with email marketing tools or payment solutions to name just a few.

Nachteile:

One thing that should be improved is the speed of the shop.

Best E-Commerce platform for small and medium size stores

Kommentare: I have deployed more than 10 instances for our customers. Installation was supper is and can be done within 15 minutes. Prestashop is very good product for small and medium level stores. I'm not recommending Prestashop for larger scale stores.

Vorteile:

+ Installation is super easy. + Open source + Good documentation and good community support. +Easy to customize + Supported by all major hosting providers. + Tons of themes/plugins developed by community

+Paid addons are very expensive. +Support service is not available from the vendor. +NOT scalable ,since not suitable for larger scale stores +Poor performance

Easy and flexible platform for your eshop

Kommentare: For a small e-commerce business is Prestashop a matching solution. You can run it for free or invest as much as is comfortable for you.

Vorteile:

I use Prestashop for more than five years for my small side business eshop. It is opensource, free and easy to install and use. If you don´t have any programming skills, you can choose templates, auto backup, auto-upgrade and you will be fine, with no cost. No limits for how many customers, orders, users, no time limit, etc. Only when your business grows, you probably would want more. For example, better design, better stock management, more import/export features. And then you will need to buy addons, hire a freelancer or you can try to find out how to make those improvements by yourself. So it will be your time or your money. But I like the possibility of choice. They are many years on the market and, therefore, you can find a helpful forum, videos, blog posts, and as I am from Europe, I am very grateful for their translation packs.

Nachteile:

Their customer service is not ideal and, if you are a beginner, you probably will struggle if any technical issue occurs. There are many freelancers and many add-ons, unfortunately, not all are reliable. In those years, I suffered through some security issues but nothing too serious.

Gets your business online, but not exactly plug&play

Kommentare: Overall, despite the fact that addons like premium themes, plugins and modules can be quite expensive, once one learns how to work around the small glitches, it is the best tool around to get an online ecommerce website without hiring an agency.

Vorteile:

Prestashop allows any startup or small business create its own ecommerce platform fairly fast and in its basic form, for free. When properly configured, the basic functionalities will allow for instant deployment of an online store.

Nachteile:

It is very easy to get excited about the potential of Prestashop, but one clashes immediately with the prices of the themes, modules and plugins needed to get some extra functionalities. Prices can be an obstacle for small startups or small businesses

Prestashop - Don't use for lots of products

Kommentare: I have three stores now with Prestashop, which I have been using for over six years. I would say that the older versions worked perfectly well and I had no problems. I would have given 5 stars in all areas. (I am talking version 1.6.0.9 or thereabouts)
Unwittingly "upgrading" to the latest versions, I'm now on 1.6.0.14, has rendered Prestashop almost unworkable. It only works now for me thanks to the brilliant paid add-on Store Manager.
My two sites with fewer products - 20 and 1200 respectively, work fine still.
My main site, which is my main source of income has 4,500 products. I cannot edit or save products (which is where Store Manager comes in). The search indexing does not work. CSV product import will not work. Database backups always time out. There are frequent errors with Payment gateways. Every recommended update usually causes new problems.
All this despite the fact that I am using the default template and have made no code changes.
Support is absolutely zero. My problems have been well discussed on the forums for over two years and are common. The programmers do nothing. I am not a programmer. I have spent over $2000 on programming help over the last two years just to keep my site running - and Prestashop is supposed to be "Open Source" and free.
I would highly recommend Prestashop if you have few products, but I would say that if you start to go over 2000 then in my experience it simply does not work. The programmers are too busy making add ons which they make money on, than getting the basic shell to work.
Transferring to another cart now would be a nightmare, largely because of the huge number of product photos, I think about 30,000 now.

Vorteile:

Brilliant for a small number of products, say up to 2000 - 2,500. Runs like clockwork

Nachteile:

If you have a large number of products, don't waste your time or money, Prestashop does not work, unless you can install the old version 1.6.0.9 (download links are still available)

The best online shop platform I ever used

If you want a professional store setup you need to take a look at prestashop. Don't be scared by the rugged design, you can change it by buying a premium template builder, and build your store without the need for any code. The simpleness of the platform and easy updating, one click upgrade make it the best free software for most businesses. If you plan on having thousand and thousand of products you are in need of some key modules,but they are easily available and not that expensive. Is it a no brainer for any business man that in order to get the same quality from some other platform you should invest thousands of dollars in it.

Nachteile:

You have to understand what you are doing, maybe whach a few tutorials, and setup your security properly, also keep in mind that are some tweaks for fast caching and the importance of using a CDN.

Decent Online Store Option, But Has Drawbacks

Kommentare: I've got a ton of experience with running and configuring Magento, but I wanted to try PrestaShop simply to use something different on my own business storefront to expand my own knowledge, not to mention that Magento needs more power than PrestaShop. Although PS is easy enough to setup and get running, it lacks a few features which I would consider "standard" by today's terms, not to mention that there is also a serious lack of free/opens source plug-ins available for it like Magento has, which includes things like themes. Overall, the store does its job and works well once all the modules are in place, but In the grand scheme, I would consider PrestaShop as a stepping stone to something bigger and better like Magento or more.

Vorteile:

Prestashop is for the large part, free to use, and pretty easy to setup and maintain. Most website hosting companies have a single-click installer for it, making getting started easy. Creating categories, products and advanced products is all very easy with very nice menus and layouts, and the default theme is surprisingly useful. Prestashop also comes with many of today's standard features built-in.

Nachteile:

The cost of the add-on modules for PrestaShop is ridiculous, and so is the platform's reliance on those modules. There is no way to do anything except free or basic flat-rate shipping unless you spend considerable monies on buying realtime rates modules for EACH shipper, or subscribing to a third-party app that combines and does the checking in a single package, which is costly. Accessing anything except the software's basic features can be incredibly clumsy as well.

Prestashop your simple open source ecommerce software

Kommentare: We have worked with Prestashop for clients. It is quite simple to get up and running but the running costs escalate as the project gets bigger. Hosting is a big requirement and you will need plugins for integration as integration can sometimes be a problem when you need to integrate with other software.

Vorteile:

Prestashop is free opensource software and a great platform to start off your website. With minimal knowledge you can be up and running. It is not heavily reliant on plugins so you can get your website going without having to purchase plugins. The admin panel is also very user friendly and our clients love it.

Nachteile:

Prestashop is not a small platform. You need a lot of hosting space. Talk to an experienced hosting provider to make sure you have the correct hosting package.

Prestashop is very easy to use, as it suits us for creating a commerce site that I missed some integration with but provider.

Nachteile:

From the application the basic functionalities are free, because the interesting plugins are generally paid.

It is easy to integrate with payment providers, all modules are configurable and I can configure them according to my country. In some special cases, such as shopping with gift points, I can easily manipulate the code. Themes and language options are quite a lot. I can also get templates from paid template sites.

Nachteile:

I haven't come across a feature that I don't like. I can do anything I want.

One of the best CMS for shopping

Vorteile:

Prestashop is one of the leading platforms for ecommerce, we use it extensively on building custom made shops, but you can really just install it and upload a couple of products and you are done, have a brand new online shop. It's very ease to use for beginners and advanced users alike. It has top knotch addons and modules to be install, free and paid. The dashboard is amazingly simple and you can find all the tools you just by browsing over the top categories.

Nachteile:

It can be difficult to upgrade major versions, as you have to custom rebuild all your code and modules.

A good option to create an online store

Vorteile:

I have been using PrestaShop for many years now and I don’t think to switch to another service. I like the fact that in this CMS it is convenient to work with clients. Using email, I quickly notify clients of new promotions, and the ability to synchronize with popular social networks helps to work with clients outside the site.

Nachteile:

The engine consumes a lot of resources, which is why the server is slow. Since I used other CMS, I can say that the problem is not in the server. PrestaShop is most likely poorly optimized.

Powerful Engine for Buy and Sell

Vorteile:

I installed PrestaShop as it comes free with my web hosting for curiosity sake. Lo and behold, I was completely blown away by the power packed features that comes with it. I really love the Back Office, it's kind of like a behind the scenes view of your ecommerce website. They really nailed the basics, from product page views to checkout. So if you have goods to sell online, just install PrestaShop and you're ready to go. Just sit back and wait to collect revenue from sales. Unless you want to mess around the website alot, there is really no need for additional plugins and such, and that's what I love.

Nachteile:

PrestaShop needs to keep up with the times. While I love the Backend Office, the mobile version of the Shopify admin/app is actually much better - it presents you with Sales figures, although functionality to customise the website is lacking as well.

Easy to install and to use, PrestaShop allow you to create a real ecommerce shop online easily. Its many options of logistics, marketing, internationalization... make it possible with little means and efforts to have an effective and flexible tool for ecommerce.

Nachteile:

I would be tempted to talk about some persistent bugs scattered in the software but updates come out regularly, the quality has improved significantly in recent years and we must not forget that it is a free open source tool source.

Good functionality, but low stability

Vorteile:

We used this CMS for exactly 3 years. On the advice of our programmers, the team switched to it from Magenta. Of the advantages, I can point out a cheap tariff, a broader functionality than our previous CMS and the absence of transaction fees.

Nachteile:

CMS is unstable, a lot of mistakes. Plugins that we acquire for an extra charge conflict with each other. For example, if you install a plug-in for currency conversion along with synchronization via e-mail, none of them will work.

Easy and smart e-commerce engine for small businesses

Kommentare: If you are about to start your e-commerce business Presta would be a perfect choice as it is easy to implement and very intuitive in use. Also it is free to download so you don't have to bear any cost at the beginning. Situatuion changes when business grows and you have to make some modifications - Presta is not en elastic tool and any changes costs money.

Vorteile:

- expensive customer service, - doens't go well with big businesses, - hard to modify

PrestaShop provides an adequate solution

Kommentare: Overall my experience has been positive. Once you get a site up and running the way you want it to look the package performs pretty well. There have been some complaints about the speed of the back-end loading but overall PrestaShop does a fairly solid job.

Vorteile:

In some respects this is pretty easy to implement. If you are looking for a very economical solution for a limited number of products PrestaShop fits the bill.

Nachteile:

When it comes to customizing the look and feel of the software that is where PrestaShop has some issues. Little things like swapping out or moving a button can involve quite a bit of digging just to find out where to make changes.

It's an easy to use program, friendly UX, responsive, it covers all the basic needs for a basic e-commerce business, great library of admins to upgrade your business

Nachteile:

It's slow, you have to save your progress several times because not always saves what you do, not that prewar web templates.
