Data warehousing and analysis elegant software

Kommentare: I am working with large databases (several millions of rows with hundreds of columns) almost a year, and I can imagine what I would have done without SAS. It is fast, comprehensive, capacious in comparison with other statistical packages. It handles the data gracefully.

Vorteile:

What I like about SAS is that there are no limits - You want to join 20 tables and filter with 10 parameters? - Go ahead! You want to merge, transpose and show the sum of just one parameter? Go ahead! Did not like the interface? Filter out what you need, download it and work in Excel. In SAS working board you can run several projects, save them and open them later. SAS has also other components such as Data Miner, Quality Control etc. when facing different business challenges.

Nachteile:

Although the interface is user friendly, but if you wish to do the coding, instead of dragging up and down the functions, you will be needing some advanced training. Another con worth mentioning is that when opening Excel database in SAS, the columns should be examined thoroughly, and type and length of the variable must be predetermined, otherwise the work should be done again. To Apple lovers - SAS is not compatible with macOS.

SAS Review

Kommentare: Good. I feel like a learn something new everyday especially when handling data request. Doing the SAS training for certification were also incredibly helpful in expanding my understanding of what all I could do in SAS.

Vorteile:

1) That the rules are relatively consistent making it easier to learn more and more technical jobs once you've got the basics 2) SAS will make you check you work and has useful error messages and alerts 3)that shear scope of procedures and step options available for data analysis. It offers users numerous back up options if they are not sure how to get one particular procedure to work

Nachteile:

1) There is a definite learning curve with SAS and it takes time and patience to practice at it. It's worth it but other systems are slightly more intuitive. 2) SAS is not the best when it comes to data visualization tools like bar charts.

Great analytics but the age shows

Kommentare: If you're familiar with sql, learning the syntax for sas would not be too hard. However, with the number of versions this software has gone through there are a lot of redundant commands. Different codes that are used in different procedures that do the same thing but the developers never bothered removing the older commands which make it feel clunky.
Nonetheless, a reliable statistical software that is powerful and understandable.

Vorteile:

This software is very reliable. There are a lot of analyses that are available in the saved procedures (proc) thus less need for having to code from scratch. They have good graphing options. I find the syntax is intuitive because of the amount of actual english words in it so it, similar to sql

Nachteile:

Paid software. Overlapping commands that have different codes but do the same thing. If you're used to programming in c, this might feel a bit restrictive because of the existing syntax. If you have questions, your guide will probably come from official documentation only as the community is not very active in online fora.

SAS-STAT is the gold standard software for pharmacutical industries

Kommentare: SAS is great and has great documentation and SAS also provides a lot of great books. I have not no problem with its difficulties because I know every good thing has costs.

Vorteile:

SAS-STAT provides a lot of statistical procedures but from the point of view of an experienced Statistician, this is not the main advantage of SAS with respect to its comparators including R and Stata. SAS is recognized as the gold standard statistical software for biostatistics and statistical programmer job titles in the pharmaceutical industry where the cost of software is not important with respect to the overall cost of drug development. So the main advantage of SAS is its prestige that facilitates some of the challenges in submitting drug development applications to governmental agencies.

Nachteile:

Working with SAS is not easy for most statistics graduates where they are well familiar with R. On the other hand, Stata software is also complete and is menu-driven so it is easy to use. Hence, the only reason that you may need to chose SAS is just its prestige.

Offers a wide range of tools to analyze statistical analysis like ANOVA, Regression, Correlation.

Kommentare: Analyzing statistical data including complex breeding trial can be performed in SAS but it is expensive option for many researchers.

Vorteile:

The effectiveness of the software is out of question. This is a very effective software for all sort of statistical analysis. Linear mixed modelling, ANOVA, Regression and correlation are done easily and effectively by using several SAS procedure (e.g. Proc GLM, Proc Mixed, Proc Glimixed etc.) It also produces graphs and other visual representations of the output.

Nachteile:

The lone negative side of this software is that it is very expensive one. Only, institutes with good funds available in hands can have the opportunity to use this exclusive features.

SAS EG v7.1 is a great data analytics tool with Project files to store process flows

Kommentare: Overall for Huge data volumes, SAS is one of the best tool for Data Analytics, creating data marts and where specialized layers needs to be build for modelling & statistical usage. Cost needs to be handled carefully.

Vorteile:

Great UI to aid non-programmers and ability to slice & dice large data with inbuild query creators makes it easy to use. Macro utility within SAS is a Top feature to deploy recurring codes and everything runs on server data.

Nachteile:

With advent of new versions, embedding proc import/export with codes is still a challenge, one needs to do it using wizard which is a manual intervention.

Go play with your data!!

Vorteile:

Codes and running of programs are easy and handy. Its very easy for students to learn the codes and use the software. It is useful for data analysis and inference.

Nachteile:

The price is a-bit high to be affordable to all people.

Ideal tool for quantitative data analysis

Vorteile:

I have used SAS for multiple research projects. It is simple and easy to use. Very similar to other tools such as STATA and SPSS. However, it is more easily accessible as compared to others.

Nachteile:

There are many glitches when using it to analyze larger data sets.

Best to configure

Kommentare: Great to have a very useful.

Easy to config and setup and easy of presentation.

Hard to master all features and usaging.

Great paid software for statistical analysis

Vorteile:

The software is a paid one and thus it has a wide amount of tools and support for use, it also has an integration with other tools such as JMP Genomics.

Nachteile:

The software is aimed mainly at analysis but does not allow you to go for the full extent of developing new techniques for analysis as you can with open programming languages such as R.

Quality software for a premium.

Vorteile:

I use the software to accomplish 80% of my duties so I may be a bit biased. The software is extremely flexible allowing you solve many problems using its predefined processes and functions. It can be used to solve many types of reporting problems. It has built in solutions to many common and uncommon statistical and business problems. It has a variety of interfaces that are available to clients, depending on what a user needs they might choose to use different tools that are available to them. The whole suite is actually quite large and most users will only ever touch the parts of it that helps them accomplish their goals. The SAS eco-system is extensive, mature and well-developed. We rely on it for many mission critical solutions.

Nachteile:

Often times the various prebuilt processes have their own syntax and they are not consistent throughout the application. The software package is not cheap.

Easy to use and all-in-one analytics software

Kommentare: I am developing statistical models for financial industry using SAS. In addition, I am doing portfolio analyses and also model monitoring tasks within the tool

Vorteile:

SAS Enterprise Guide is the tool a data scientist will be able to perform all data preparation and analysis tasks with both hard coding or drag and drop functionalities. Even some forms of models can easily be developed within the tool. On the other hand, SAS Miner is also very useful for statistical model build. The advantage of all these SAS tools is the visibility of the data from all these tools as they are integrated with each other

Nachteile:

As data science word is evolving in a very fast pace, SAS should also align itself to this world. SAS sometimes stays behind the popular algorithms which could be done with R and Python. I am sure they will also be covered soon within the tools.

Excellent statistical analysis software, but be prepared to pay!

Vorteile:

SAS 9.3 gives you tremendous power to clean, manipulate, and analyze large datasets. I've been a SAS user for a while and prior to that I had only worked with SPSS. SAS opened the door for me to think about my data differently. I've used SAS now on criminal sentencing data, healthcare claims data, and operational case management data. Whether you need to create an automated report, write algorithms to mine data, or prep a dataset for another software like Tableau, SAS is a fantstic tool. Additionally, SAS has a litany of trainings available for purchase to help you get the most of your data.

Nachteile:

SAS is very costly. It's important to keep in mind that in addition to being a product, SAS is also a programming language that as of writing is not patented. If you are on a budget there is a company out of the UK that sells a software that runs Base SAS programming language for a fraction of a price, great for outfitting a startup team. SAS Graph module leaves something to be desired, there are better softwares that focus on just visualization.

The original power statistical tool

Kommentare: Use it just for the sheer power. Quite expensive licenses and there are certainly better and faster packages available. Its just that migrating system from a foolproof and proven system just seems too much of work. Hope they up their game plan soon or soon, it might be time to make the plunge.

Vorteile:

Very powerful. You want it and you can do it. Quite intuitive programming. Has multiple ways to integrate with other packages for data exchange. Has a reasonably versatile scalablity.

Nachteile:

Its aged. Much slower than some of the latest products in the market. Syntax while not complex can hardly be described intuitive Interface seems at least a couple of decades old.

My go-to Statistical software

Vorteile:

What I love about SAS are syntax consistency and standardized functions. SAS as an institute has been doing a great job at maintaining the software and providing great experiences to its users. Whenever I face an error, the message often tells me what to fix exactly whereas other programming languages like R doesn't - it's extremely annoying and time-consuming.

Nachteile:

One thing SAS lacks - perhaps it's just because of the nature of the software - is its visualization capability. I'd do a lot of statistical analysis in SAS, but have to find an alternative way to create figures to convey the results as the graphics look like they're from 90s.

Complete Business Intelligence Suite

Vorteile:

I am using SAS since last 8 years and I have used it in DWH using DI studio, SAS EG for reporting and Web Report Studio, SMC etc. I can say it is the best solution of all problems related to data and works perfect. You need to have expertise to work around this but it is not that tough to learn like Java etc.

Nachteile:

Cost effective and you need to have technical expertise to work around this tool. some functionality are tough to learn and it may take years to be expert on this tool set.

Awesome for data

Kommentare: Great, but you pay for it...

Vorteile:

This is the perfect tool to handle database. Powerfull and fast architecture to deal with your query. The fact it can be coded in SQL is also a nice plus. Great set of add-on can really help produce awesome and clear reports.

Nachteile:

Not so user-friendly coding language, some particulary are a non-sense, in my opinion. Some add-on are expensive for what they add to the product. Price is off the chart.

Kommentare: Overall its easy to use. Even though their products are pricey they include free customer support

Vorteile:

It is one of best product in terms of churning large datasets for various statistics. It has improved in terms of reporting product through SAS Viya

Nachteile:

Setting up rules for user access using groups and roles can be confusing as there are so many. It takes some time to troubleshoot when a user has access issue.

Powerful, quick analytics and visualization

Kommentare: I get easy to present results and well-inderstood visualization graphs. The software is world-class.

Vorteile:

I've used SAS for almost 20 years. Recent developments have made the software much more user-friendly.

Nachteile:

Learning and using SAS still require a heavy investment in time and human capital. Once the investment is made, it's worth the effort, but it's difficult sometimes to gain all the skills required for all of the potential tasks.

Good variety of analytics tools

Kommentare: Used SAS to do a bunch of design processes and quick analysis on a large relational database. I did get certified in SAS, but even I will admit that I still hardly feel comfortable coding on my own, so I still rely on the GUIs.

Vorteile:

There are a lot of different SAS softwares to fill a variety of uses. If you have a problem, then SAS has almost certainly already thought of it. Some of their GUIs are very user-friendly too.

Nachteile:

Learning how to code in SAS is a real pain if you've ever learned any other coding language. It's just way different than anything else.

SAS is my program of choice for most of my methodological research.

Vorteile:

The functionality and ease of SAS is unparalleled for conducting a variety of advanced analyses, especially in GLM and multilevel (HLM) frameworks. I find when writing code for the same analyses with the free software R that for more complex analyses, the R code is always much longer. Additionally, SAS documentation is very thorough and it is always easy to find the answers you are looking for.

Nachteile:

The graphics. SAS graphics are so basic and look so dated that I often use a different program to generate plots, even though they are easier to generate in SAS. The graphics really need to be updated. Also, the SAS capability for structural equation models (SEMs) is limited, and I usually use Mplus for those analyses.

All in one reporting solution

Kommentare: I have been very much satisfied and the product in all in one software for all my business intelligence requests .

Vorteile:

It helps you to build end to end reporting and automate it very easily . You can also do modeling aswell.

Nachteile:

Cost is a bit on the higher side and also certifications are all to be done going to a center instead of online assessments.

SAS for Analytics

Vorteile:

There are tons of examples and answered questions available with a simple Google search. You can generally figure out how to accomplish your task by doing a little research.

Nachteile:

The interface could use some updating...it seems old and dated. Need to intriduce new functionality in order to keep up with R and Python, which I prefer using.

I found the statistical analysis software a wonderful addition in this fast growing world.

Vorteile:

It gives us more easily accessible tools to manage data, clean, subset, merge and combine to prepare for analysis and further to analyze datasets.

Nachteile:

The cost of the software is high and increasing to the level that sometimes hard to renew every year, to cope up with other incremental expenses of life.

Oh mine, SAS is software makes you satisfied all the time, what a miss, prior to my use of it.

Vorteile:

the ability to create code within a short time and ability to do programming steps as well as calculation steps all in one, in a very easy way makes it a powerful tool.

Nachteile:

sometimes it takes too much effort to get help when you're stuck, you I just keep on searching, get frustrated, and even then have to continue the following day.
