Sunbird and Power IQ #1

Kommentare: We know where we stand with real time metrics that I have tested to be 100 % accurate. Identifies the problem with detail right down to the cabinet level.

Vorteile:

Features, data and asset management is easy to use and when you have an issue your calling the leaders of the industry. Support is crucial to resolving any issues right away, not 5 to 10 days like others.

Nachteile:

Reports could be a little more detailed in my opinion.

Sunbird dcTrack and PowerIQ

Kommentare: Overall, the product is great/stable. Where we have challenges, the support team is always accessible and provides quality information.

Vorteile:

The asset tracking, visualization, and power/temperature monitoring are the biggest features we need. My favorite thing about the product/company is how accessible management is to escalate issues and the support organization. You work with the customer and that sells the product to me.

Nachteile:

We utilize tap cassettes at both data centers for our Corning patch panels. It would be awesome if we could trace both connections out of the tap cassettes, but that feature hasn't been integrated yet.

PowerIQ is admin's best friend, dcTrack is best to comfort revisors and auditors

(x) new releases have a high quality, we always wait a few month until implementing a new release and in the last two years we never had an issue after a release upgrade

Vorteile:

New hardware devices are ready be monitored in seconds. Management of hundreds of hardware devices such PDUs and sensors lost it's complexity. PowerIQ superseded our Nagios Installation for all hardware-related devices. It becomes more and more our primary trap host.

Nachteile:

Compared to PowerIQ setup of dcTrack is complex. Integration of PowerIQ an dcTrack could be easier to use. (License) Price for integration of USVs into PowerIQ is definitely to high, as a result we do not monitore our several USVs via PowerIQ

Sunbird DCIM Solution experience.

Kommentare: Currrently we are in the implementation phase, so far i'm loving it.

Vorteile:

- User friendly interface. - Delivers all the key features that are essential to data center management. - Knowledge base article with how-to videos in the support portal - Nice to have.

Nachteile:

Nothing observed so far.

Kommentare: Overall I haven't regret that we choose Sunbird.
When I run into daily challenges (that often happens to me) your dedicated support team are ALWAYS there to find and help me with a solution. I'm 100% sure we wouldn't have gotten as a good support if we would have chose another DCIM tool for our Company
Also great that you are not shy to take a Teams calls if needed. that really apricated!

Vorteile:

It has a lot great features that are easy to use most of the way.

Nachteile:

The possibility to install racks with the U-numbers starting with the lowest number at the top. Right now you can only get a view, that doesn't integrate with the U-height you choose when installing in the rack.

SunBird - The best feature rich DCIM product in the Market Place

Kommentare: The overall experience has been a bit overwhelming to start, with all the feature rich software has to offer, but with a good professional services engagement from Sunbird they were quickly able to break it all down into bit size chunks to understand and on free online training was extremely helpful when we got stuck with a curtain function.

Vorteile:

The software provides a rich end to end functional journey of creating a DC room, adding the power train, then the racks and finally the devices into those racks. In the process of doing this you get a visualization view and an asset list plus how it all logically & physically connects together. Plus great out of the box dashboards.

Nachteile:

None from a product perspective, but it does require you to understand all the layers within your data Centre and the equipment makes and models plus specifications.

Cleveland Clinic Data Center Tech evaluation of Sunbird DCIM products

Kommentare: I am able to better manage and produce reports to my management with this product.

Vorteile:

The product is very easy to use, and also train new employees how to use it.

Nachteile:

I can't think of any Cons for this product.

Best DCIM solution

Kommentare: I'd like to note SunBird support team as fatest to reply on request and with quick solution.

Vorteile:

Having tried to work with top five DCIM products I consider SunBird the best DCIM product on the market. It is easyest to adopt to and covers the most of DataCenter manager's tasks. Great functionality and large user group helps a lot to solve problems, which are impossible to solve in other products, like subfloor or above rack equipment placement.

Nachteile:

Monitoring functionality needs further work. I'd put a ModBus software gateway in my wishlist.

Standardisation with easy implementation and first class support

Kommentare: As expected and since engagement has been first class support. Knowledgeable about their product and always able to assist.

Vorteile:

Easy to setup and intuitive, readily available support and training materials can help you progress your initial stages quickly. Support available and the 1-2-1 sessions have been invaluable. Quickly able to see results and how it integrates in to your environment.

Nachteile:

At the moment there isn't anything - it is exactly as I expected and researched

Lack of Documentation

Kommentare: We use it as our monitoring tool and Sunbird is good compared to other monitoring apps./

Vorteile:

Easy to use and synchronized with out UPS and PDUs

Nachteile:

Lack of documentation on the application itself.

Great 1st Echelon Support

Vorteile:

dcTrack, along with powerIQ provides in-depth health-concern data for your data centers, at a glance. I dont' have enough characters here to list everything I like about this software. I'll sum it up like this, all of the questions/requirements you may have for your system, that start with, "can I do ______ with this system?", the answer is yes. Some features are harder than others to get setup. Power connectivity, for instance, takes into account your building's entire power chain. From the building UPS, up to your rack PDU's, utilizing any available management information those devices will offer up. Unless you know a lot about industrial power (I do not) then it could be a difficult feature to get working. That being said I was able to get things up and running with a Sunbird support staff who are not just extremely knowledgeable of their applications, but have expertise in every facet of every infrastructure area that the system supports. The applications are also visually stunning that they are easy sells to management and are "no-brianers" to justify for purchase.

Nachteile:

My biggest complaint about the software is a development paradigm of dictating what can be done or not in the system, even if you may feel like you should be able to proceed with an operation. An example of this is that the system, when implemented as deigned will not allow you to make a network connection between a SFP port of a switch and a copper NIC. This, even though these connections are possible using copper GBIC's. There is a workaround for this, of making all of your different port-types to "twisted-pair" which constitutes a minor inconvenience. The important thing is that the Sunbird Support staff have always come up with a work around for the particular incompatibilities in our environment, of which there have not been many.

The future might be blinding bright for Sunbird if they play their cards right.

Kommentare: We have not achieved production functionality yet but overall great!

Vorteile:

Features, ease of deployment with some reservations to importing assets and setting up a db, overall look and feel, automation, precision and wide scope of functionality.

Nachteile:

The process of getting your existing assets in is quite gruelling if you are not using Service Now as your asset management system. Collating and matching data to dcTracks standards is very challenging for the project team. We are going to use your turn key service to ease the process.

Caretech Solutions Inc.

Kommentare: As a remote datacenter manager, it is invaluable to have a visual readout of our assets, and easily be able to determine and display capacity. As a Shared Services provider, we can easily demonstrate to existing customers where their racks are located, how populated they are, etc. This is also useful in sales initiatives; having a 3-D graph of racks with available capacity (one of the vendor-provided reports) makes the salesman's job easier.

Vorteile:

I like the fact that it can be as high-level, or granulated as you like. I initially started with "where are my racks and what's in them" usage, easily generating 3-d visuals, and exporting .csv and .pdf reports. Using the built-in import and export tools, I've been able to add entries for power whips (and associate them with racks), and populate chassis with individual blades. Next steps will be to update network information for devices, again, with the easy import tools.

Nachteile:

The models library sometimes lacks the specific Make, Model, etc. of a device I'm adding, so I'll have to use a similar one, or define a generic one. Sunbird has a mechanism to submit model addition requests.

DCIM Solution for Any business

Kommentare: Managing over a hundred global locations comprised of local offices and data centers have been a huge challenge. With the implementation of dcTrack/PowerIQ we were able to achieve clear visibility into each of these locations and eliminate a lot of technology debt.

Vorteile:

Practical Data Center inventory management and power monitoring tool in one. Easy to use with intelligent and clear reporting and helpful dashboards. We've grown and developed our business processes and procedures while implementing the tool - moving away from manual data entry and management via multiple spreadsheets is the thing of the past we'd never go back to.

Nachteile:

With every release there are always new features delivered that were requested by the customers. As with every tool, some level of customization is always required. In some cases it may not be as intuitive as one would wish and reading the admin manual is a must.

PowerIQ DCIM - the foundation of any top tier data center

Kommentare: PowerIQ from Sunbird (formerly Raritan) has become a staple in our Data Center Management. We depend on it daily. We've been using this powerhouse for about a decade now with zero regrets. Unmatched features from the most innovative hardware/software company I've had the pleasure of dealing with will help you rest easy while your data center purrs like a happy cat.

Vorteile:

It started off ahead of the pack, and it's stayed there with consistent updates from (wait for it) FEEDBACK FROM USERS. I love that. It's not a shiny ball that turns out to be an empty shell once you buy it. This stuff works.

Nachteile:

The initial setup can be daunting, but this isn't 1990 anymore and we aren't rookies. Read the manual and install the product like a boss.

Transparency to the datacenter

Kommentare: We had to know how much power our Datacenter is using and we had different PDU's in use. Sunbird helped us to integrate all of them in one software product. So we have everything in one view.

Vorteile:

The Software is very powerful. Each release brings new features, that are very usefully. With the new dashboards you have only one look to see if something needs attention. In the meanwhile our Datacenter team knows more about the rooms, climate, power consumption than our facility management. The functionality for reporting is very powerful and can automatically sent them to the persons, that need it.

Nachteile:

Because the software is so powerful, there are a lot of things you have to configure. As better it's configured, as better are the results. It take some time to set everything up. We took Sunbird to support us and this have been the right choice for us.

Still implementing but good process so far

Vorteile:

Visualizations look great. The constant updating of model library helps to keep things accurate when adding new assets. Monitoring can be granular which gives the user better flexibility to use the functionality how they want it to be used. Software is very easy once it is used on a daily basis. Free weekly training is also helpful

Nachteile:

Some of the better features appear to be available in newer builds. Newer builds require more testing before they can even be implemented. We get stuck using the outdated version with fear that the new one won't work well with out environment. Seems like the older versions have less and less support as the newer versions are released which is understandable. Charging for rack licenses for simple things like cable ladders to be represented in maps.

Easy to use

Kommentare: I'm based in France, and if i need hard support, i need to contact USA support. Because of the time difference, i hava to wait to the afternon to have some answers end the same for them but, finally, all the issues has been solved.

Vorteile:

The best of this software is the dashboard, that you can see all the informations about your business in real time. and you can personalize it !

Nachteile:

If you don't receive any official learning about the software it's long to know all the things about the software.

Easy to deploy Monitoring Solution

Vorteile:

The solution is very easy to deploy and to configure thanks to the Excel/CSV Import feature. I had the software up and running within a day. The user interface is easy to use and I especially like the easy-to-build dashboards.

Nachteile:

Unfortunately the reporting is very limited and could be improved a lot. There are only a few pre-installed reports Also I would love to see PowerIQ acting as a NTP Server for the monitored facility items which is currently not supported.

Vorteile:

All in all a convincing offer. Product, licensing model, price, service, etc. convince in comparison with other solutions.

Nachteile:

In the case of dcTrack, the licensing model for PCs should be extended in order to be able to map office units (PC, Printer, etc.) with the software beyond the data center (Racks/Cabinets).

dcTrack review

Kommentare: The overall support from Sunbird has been excellent. they've been willing to help whenever any problems arrived and the diligence of their support and development staff I've worked with has been wonderful.

Vorteile:

The learning curve was not steep. We're able to manage over 80 global data centers effectively and plan for power, space and remote monitoring.

Nachteile:

The initial hardware descriptions for some devices were incorrect and made bulk imports difficult. However after learning how to tweak the models Library we were able to correct any mistakes and gain accurate device descriptions.

Great Product, doesn't overstep it's bounds, good value for money

Kommentare: I think Sunbird DCIM is a great product! I think it will help my company in many ways, from tracking assets to being able to have a fully documented Datacenter so that we can direct people where to go and what to do. The ability to interact with PDUs allows up a lot of control over machines and their power, not to mention being able to watch power consumption, which greatly helps with capacity planning.

Vorteile:

Sunbird DCIM was easy to get installed and get started. There are many options available to track machines, and the dcTrack and PowerIQ work very well together. The tools can be setup with appropriate roles and authentication so that many members of a team can work with it and update it. Also, when I have had a problem, the support team was able to correct the issue and were very knowledgeable about the product so it did not take long to fix.

Nachteile:

The software can be a bit confusing to get around until you use it for a while. There have been a few bugs, but the support team was able to get things sorted out for me.

Emerson GDC Review

Vorteile:

Product is easy to use and view when it is setup. Useful as we have multiple "teams" using Sunbird to look at assets on the floor and for future projects.

Nachteile:

Most missing features are easy to request to get added and have a quick turn around response time.

I'm excited to get to work everyday because I know I'm going to be working with DC Track!

Kommentare: The capability to utilize a single database to not only manage our data center racked assets but to also integrate with our incident and change management tool.

Vorteile:

The support from Sunbird is beyond excellent. They're very quick to respond to inquiries and are always willing to provide whatever help we need. The 3D visualization is awesome and uploading asset details is easy. I especially like the custom fields feature because I can add data unique to our data center.

Nachteile:

Would like the capability to create drop-down select lists that auto-fill additional/relative fields such as Systems Administrator name and the contact information (email, desk/cell phone and manager details).
