So far so good, new the software!

Kommentare: I will check back in after a full 6 months with the program but I bet our estimates are going to be more robust and decrease misses in the bids.

Vorteile:

So we just switched to doing our estimates in Pro-contractor and there are some great abilities like building assemblies for line items. This has allow us to minimize the amount of information that can possible confuse someone looking at it. We also like that everything can be tied to a SOV items easily.

Nachteile:

This software is a lot more complex that what we typically use so in that training time is a little more intense to understand. The terms used in this software also cause a little confusion as now what we use as cost codes are refereed to as phase codes which can get confused with phases.

Switching from American Contractor to ProContractor

Vorteile:

I love the ability to customize the home page. It makes the payroll process much easier because I can put everything I need in one place and not have to go look for them each week. This also allows me to ensure I haven't missed anything in the payroll process.We also love the ability that we can have certain fields automatically show what they're supposed to for invoices and such. It's great to not have to redundantly fill in what will almost always stay the same but still having the ability to change it in specific cases when necessary.

Nachteile:

As the person who handles payroll there is one major con regarding having to "fix" timecards. We have since changed our process to minimize this but previously there was an issue of the field staff accidentally providing me the wrong cost code. I would then have to go back in to correct the cost codes so our Project Status Reports correctly reflected where the hours had been worked. There is no simple way to correct just one or two cost codes from a paycheck. In order to fix the codes you have to void the entire paycheck and re-enter it. This becomes rather tedious, especially if the mistake is on our General Foreman's timecard as he visits several different projects every day.The other issue that has arose also has to do with payroll. When it comes to certified payroll reporting we only have to report field hours. We do have some employees that work in both the field and our shop so sometimes they'll have hours in both places in the same pay period. The system doesn't recognize the difference between our shop and field cost codes. Whether or not an employees hours are included in CPR reports depends entirely upon what has been indicated in the pay class you're using. Due to this I have had to create identical "Shop" pay classes for every pay class we use and when entering shop hours we have to make sure the automatic pay class is changed to the shop version.

Feel like I was lied to

Kommentare: I have noticed that PC trys to work with you more and help you more than the way it was in 2016. But now I feel stuck with a product that does not work for me. I do not have the money nor the time to get another system right now. I have looked in the past and found other systems that looked like it was more user friendly and able to access documents easier.

Vorteile:

Integration was long and not what I understood. I was shocked that I had to do all the work - I thought I was paying for PC to set up a program that was specific to my needs by giving them the information. The billing can be easy if my GC accept an AIA or a standard Progress payment that PC offers but a lot of them do not so billing becomes very time consuming (read cons). There is actually not a lot I like about PC. I have been extremely disappointed because I had written down 2 pages of information I was looking for in a system and the sales person was a great sales person because it has not worked the way I have needed it to and they made it out like you

Nachteile:

I bought it so I could have everything in one place - for instance.....Estimating (that I don't use) The ability to move estimates into Purchase Orders (that I do not use) The ability to upload pay applications from GC into PC to fill out (This was not true - actually requires a lot of money to pay someone to create a Pay App that I would be about to use with PC billing) Simple reports that I could run by crew leader, Project Manager, and GC that I could give the [sensitive content hidden] to help him make better financial decisions moving forward (I talked to PC and they did not offer what I needed) - These were some major reasons I purchased PC - Also, running sub 1099's do not match with the Income Statement. It would be nice if not only Pay Applications auto-saved in the project binder, but also Purchase orders, and change orders. It would be so nicer if Project connect would show the paid vendor invoices, and Pay Applications (they just disappear from the page, and I need those often! - I know they can be found in another report - but it's having to go look in another place - PC has that information, it just needs to be in Project Connect so it is all in one place! Taxes - I don't understand why the information would not print on a form that could be submitted to the IRS or to GA - PC gives you the information, why not put it on the correct form?To have the ability to easily scan vendor invoices into PC and to be able to view them with a click of a button in different locations

Kommentare: I personally love Procontractor. Became a master user quickly, and now I get calls frequently with how to questions. Recently I have began using Spectrum too which is also a viewpoint product. I still hands down prefer Procontractor!

Vorteile:

Procontractor is very user friendly. Has an ease of functionality.

Nachteile:

The time it takes for certain reports to run, when you host your own server. I've noticed with the cloud; it goes much faster.

Providing timely and accurate project accounting and management for contractors

Kommentare: Our clients are billed on a time and material basis. We must be able to provide them everything they need at a reasonable cost. ProContractor allows us to do just that.

Vorteile:

We are a bookkeeping service for contractors. ProContractor was very easy for us to convert all our existing clients from American Contractor to ProContractor. We have also brought on contractors from other software packages with ease. We are able to provide our clients with all their accounting needs from payroll through financial reviews, bonding requirements and cash management.

Nachteile:

In most areas of the product the keystrokes required are identical. There are a few areas that don't seem to function as you might expect.

Great On-Premise Entry Level System

Kommentare: When we acquired the software it was a fully functional (for our needs), well-priced and very simple to use on-premise entry level system from Maxwell Systems. Prior to this we were pretty much a paper and pencil organization. Nevertheless, the learning curve was quick, which has a lot to say about the intuitive nature of the software. Maxwell Systems implemented ProContractor on time and under budget, something which is inconceivable today. We purchased the software free and clear with optional annual support. With a bit of imagination and some in-house technical expertise, you could build fairly sophisticated integrations with Excel VBA macros reaching into the ProContractor database. The SSRS reporting was and is still in a different class compared to even the enterprise level competition.A few years later Viewpoint purchased the product. Costs have skyrocketed, and on-premise customers are now being forced into the Cloud by end of 2026, which is certainly the way the the world is going, but since Viewpoint offers no API support for ProContractor, this will break all our on-premise integrations, but also precludes us from exploring 3rd party add-on solutions. Viewpoint is not at all invested in helping us through this dilemma.

Vorteile:

Having recently reviewed several enterprise level systems as possible replacements for ProContractor, as we thought we'd outgrown it, we've been struck by the utter simplicity of ProContractor to perform routine, but complex tasks compared to the more sophisticated and more costly competition. Maxwell Systems really did a great job in designing a very comprehensive and robust system for the entry level market. Realizing that we were actually in a very good position after all, we decided to stay with ProContractor, and build our own integrations, but Viewpoint pulled the plug on that idea by forcing its Cloud strategy on us.The ProContractor technical support team is truly fantastic, and mostly goes the extra mile. This is really the only area that Viewpoint has improved upon. Even low priority requests are usually responded to same or next day. The techs have been around a while and really know their stuff.

Nachteile:

When we purchased ProContractor from Maxwell Systems in 2013, it was available only as on-premise software, and very reasonably priced. We bought the software free and clear and chose the optional annual support. A few years later Viewpoint acquired the software, and our costs have soared since as the software has stagnated and actually deteriorated. Nevertheless, we are paying heavily just to run the software, albeit on-premise, i.e. the optional support is now mandatory. To add insult to injury, Viewpoint is now forcing customers to migrate to the Cloud by December 2026, but without any API support, and for this we will pay even more. Of course, this cost increase is spun as a huge advantage but for us makes this move is a non-starter. A closed Cloud based solution is a very poor choice in this day and age. Also, the last few "performance" releases have degraded the software quality significantly, whereas the upgrades used to be rock solid. I would not recommend this software until Viewpoint invests in some API capabilities. Unfortunately, Viewpoint has lost its way with this product, which is a great shame as it had so much potential in its market niche.

This Program Sucks

Nothing. This program is truly awful. I would not recommend

Nachteile:

Everything. The Customer Services is a JOKE. My program kept closing every time I ran a report. I opened a ticket on Nov 12 and still on Dec 27 no one has called me back. I've made at least 6 calls to their customer service for help each time waiting on the line for almost 30 min. Save your money and get a different system. This one is awful.

Vorteile:

The ease of finding projects and the customization of the setup screens are the best features.

Nachteile:

Important processes take too long to complete, too much wait time. Lots of quirks within system. Reports taking too long to run, after long string of GL entries the system will boot me out thereby requiring me to reenter all of the data again. We get weird error messages that mean absolutely nothing to us therefore we don't know what direction to take. We have to log out and log back in frequently to complete random tasks. Feels like system was written by people who don't use it in a front office role.

Average Product - Needs Improvement

Kommentare: It's like a 5 out of 10. It took too much of our time and money to move over to this program. Once we knew how to use it and paid for a number of fixes it was nice but it was a lot for what we are getting. Also we moved over from American Contractor to this "new program" but honestly this feels out of date too. The fact that the whole thing is a virtual desktop is also super annoying.

Vorteile:

Once you know how to use it it is pretty straight forward and easy to use.

Nachteile:

The pre migration training is a total waste of time and money. We spent $1000s to learn how to use the program before the migration when really they should have done that after migration. Also they need training videos. The migration process took too long and there were a number of mistakes. You have to learn everything from a consultant and that is not cheap. The way that they invoice isn't transparent at all, especially for a company that works with contractors. There are a lot of fixes that you have to pay for - for example we had to add an area to include the owner in the Lien Release which is ridiculous considering this is required in the State of CA.

Kommentare: Overall I feel that this was a benefit to the company. We hopefully will recover our substantial investment within the next couple years.

Vorteile:

The integration of project documents into the procore system is impressive. The ability to create a submittal register from the specifications was very helpful. The ability to collaborate "ball in court" and keep track of who is doing what helps facilitate progress in the project

Nachteile:

This is no user friendly. For those without a strong computer background it will be a rather steep learning curve. For those with a strong computer background it still will difficult to relearn the concepts that are readily available. I have not had an opportunity to watch the how to videos to see if that would help.

Oh Well, Let's See What Happens!

Vorteile:

The outside source we used to educate us in setting it all up was AMAZING!! If it were not for her we would not be using it.

Nachteile:

Too many glitches that never get solved. We just find a way ourselves to work around them. Asking Viewpoint to dive into the coding part of things for a solution is never an option. The programmers honestly believe they have an elite product and altering anything would be a blow to their ego.

Kommentare: I have been using procontractor since 2003 . Little has changed. It is great software if you can get any support, you will be lucky.

Vorteile:

Its great software easy to use. Customer service is the worst I have ever seen.

Nachteile:

Customer service is no good. If you go down, it takes days weeks months for someone to even call. When they call all they do is set another case and you Waite some more. I was down for 3 months due to errors on Pro contractor,. It is ridiculously expensive.

Earthwork Estimating

Kommentare: It's good for the price and when I can read the plans I can complete a take-off very quickly.

Vorteile:

It's easy to use and easy to teach new employees how to use it.

Nachteile:

I'm never informed on when an update is released. Most of the plans are very hard to read when imported into the software. Plans with photographs are impossible to read when imported.

Vorteile:

Easy to learn, more permissions and constraints to avoid accidental deletion of data. Access to customer service and online chat. There is a great Knowledge Base resource center.

Nachteile:

Time tracking app needs improvement. The ability to have the field employees use an app that tracks time, material and equipment for quick invoicing on work orders would be helpful. Connecting the Field Order feature and the Purchase Order feature to the mobile app would help as well as communication/message ability from office to field.

Kommentare: Not as user friendly as some other products like quickbooks as an example. Would like to see the capability when setting up security features to be able to copy them from one person to another. for example one Purchase Manager to another Purchase Manager both will have the same security but have to setup each one individually.

Vorteile:

There is a lot of security and there is a lot of history to see when something was done and whom did the task this is a great feature.

Nachteile:

Use of the help feature very hard to understand.

Vorteile:

As an Estimator this is the worst estimating program I have ever used. Yes it has hundreds of bells and whistles but 99% are useless. It's obvious that whoever wrote the program was a IT person and not a construction person. I honestly can not name one thing I like about the program.

Nachteile:

There are to many steps in trying to set up a bid. Having to create an estimate, then create a bid, then allocate and the numbers change, then have to go back in the summary and adjust the numbers, allocate again and it changes a couple numbers then go back to the summary and do the numbers again. Then to print a bid can be a big pain in the neck. Everything about it is horrible and not user friendly.

Implementation and Training

Vorteile:

The program is set up to cover the entire process from Estimating through Invoicing.

Nachteile:

I have worked, previous to migrating to the cloud, with multiple sectors of ProContractor. During the process of deciding to migrate to the cloud, I learned of a lot that we were not utilizing. Several of us were excited about starting each project off right and the ease of the project moving through each sector of the program. Once we migrated, I discovered that the support for both training and technical issues is not a priority to Trimble. We have experienced signing up for training that never happens, zero response to requests and over seven hours for tech support to respond to your ticket.

Nachteile:

Customer service is slow. We have been having problems accessing the bill pay option online for the last couple months. It should not take so long to fix this problem. We can not be the only users having this problem.

Pro Contractor for Concrete

Kommentare: Pro Contractor has a lot of bells and whistles if you are willing to cough up the high cost. It can be very cumbersome to navigate to the information you need. Customer support is pretty good I must say when it comes to getting problems solved. It utilizes a very old system that gets updated too infrequently especialy on the takeoff side. There are just programs that do it better and faster.

Vorteile:

I like the job tracking and project control.

Nachteile:

I completely dislike the takeoff. Bluebeam does it better and in at least half the time.

Kommentare: I use procontractor for measuring off of digital plans. I am happy with the results I get.

Vorteile:

I use the Estimator and Earthwork programs for construction estimating. I have been using these programs since they were Quest in 2002. I am very familiar with them and I have no issues for my applications.

Nachteile:

Some of the features of Earthwork are not very intuitive and pose a challenge for new users. Better tutorial sections on basic use would be helpful. When I first started using the program I attended a multi-day training program which was very helpful. Over the years I have learned a lot of tricks that can be very helpful. However I don't see how new users can get use of these.
